explore Ida and other nearby galaxies.

The Asgard hyperdrives allow us to get relatively easily to nearby galaxies and the supergate allows us to explore the Ori galaxy. Should we begin to explore them?

It would use up a lot of our ships so maybe it wouldn't be worth it as it would leave Earth and Atlantis exposed. There may be some good technology that we may be missing. Maybe the Ancients have left some stuff in the galaxies around Andromeda, it'd be out of reach of the Wraith but accessible to them.

What could we find and would it be worth it?

If they have a good lead on a significant discovery, like they did with Atlantis or like they will with the Destiny, sure. To let something like that slip from their grasp is potentially a big mistake. But to just randomly send resources to other galaxies isn't something they can afford to do both right now and while the Stargate program remains a secret. They don't have the manpower, they're stretched thin where funding is concerned as is, and they don't have the resources. So to just randomly wander around the universe isn't really fesiable and to do it anyway at a time when it isn't is a very bad idea as they can't afford to make new enemies right now. They need to build up their powerbase and focus on developing technologies based on what they have and what they can recover in the near future (there are so many areas left unexplored in their own backyard) before risking getting into even bigger trouble.

Maybe it's best to find out about enemies before they come along? The Stargate programme exists on that principal.

People wanted to bury our heads in the sand but it doesn't work.

Human's are naturally curious. I say we do it.

They of course shouldn't bury their heads in the sand, but they should pace themselves. They were given technology way above their level advancement too quickly. Normally, a race would build up a fleet in their own galaxy and then develop intergalactic capabilities. But since Earth was given intergalactic hyperdrives shortly after creating their first ship they need to be careful not get themselves in trouble with it. There's such a thing as over extending yourself and although things have gotten a little better after the defeat of the Ori, they're still doing that as is.

For their own good, they by all means should continue exploration, but they should do so in the Milky Way and the Pegasus galaxy first. There is so much more technology they could uncover right there (much of which has been proven to be somewhat familar for them due to the Ancient's influence) and more races that they could encounter who will potentially serve as either allies or foes. So, they should pour all available resources into continuing to find out what is waiting to be discovered in their own backyard (threats and all) and while they do that, build up their fleet, continue with research and development, and strengthen their bonds with allies and potential allies. Along the way they could potentially find information about a worthwhile discovery located in another galaxy and since they haven't been sending all their resources randomly throughout the universe they will be able to properly give whatever it is the attention it needs.

                priority list:

                -contain pegasus threats to pegasus
                -stabilise MW
-defeat wraith [gonna take a while]
                -stabilize pegasus.
                -go explore other galaxies
                -

Perhaps humans are a bit leery of random exploration now after waking the Wraith and alerting the Ori to their existence. Besides, they'd probably have to design and build a ship specifically for long range exploration for it to be effective. Also they do have a limited number of ships that have many significant other priorities. It would be interesting to see them go specefically where no Taur'i has gone before though.

all you need to upgrade is the powersource. hello, hyperdrives travelling almost a lightyear a day

I think its not a good idea... why? Well Earth would need to build up its fleet first.. I mean they only have three starships... thats not really a great way to begin exploring the galaxy.

Exploring other galaxies is a good idea but we shouldn't rush things. As for Ida, I'm pretty sure the Asgard database has tons of data on that so we should start by examining that and see if there's something worth checking out.

Andromeda is a tougher call but the Atlantis database might contain some info on that as we know for sure that the Ancients visited lots of galaxies before arriving in MW.

But as others said we should settle things in our galaxies first: deal with the Wraith and other threats, improve political and economic relations with our allies and start building a fleet - not necessarily just battleships but a merchant fleet (tel'taks would do fine).

actually, if we are smart, we'd teach jaffa the basics of science, so they can actually help when we're in trouble.

Why travel there by ship? Why not just use the gates to get there? The Asgard core has got to have the addresses for the other galaxies...at the very least Ida. Furthermore, the Asgard have probably explored a chunk of the intergalactic gate network.

Still...having an Alpha Site in another galaxy would be very useful, much more secure than an in-galaxy Alpha Site.

Thats assuming there are gate networks in Ida and Andromeda etc etc Ida only has one gate that we know of... plus, the power requirements will be staggering.
