View Full Version : Stargate Universe - Adam Baldwin for Lead Role

I have read some of the news reviews that have been here on GateWorld about the upcoming Stargate Universe and all I can say is if they want as good a programme as it all started with Richard Dean Anderson, then they couldnt go wrong with casting Adam Baldwin in the lead role. They want the same humour yet a star to take the lead role and I personally think he would be the rightr man for the job. Having played in SG-1 previosuly he's a known part of the Stargate franchise to fans already and to newcomers would be a welcome face in a cast of new characters. In my oipinion he has shown he can be just as funn as RDA if anyone has watched the series Firefly and Angel they can see he can play funny when needs must and also has the RDA factor of being cool at the same time. He gets my vote and all I can say is I hope to see him soon resprisng his role as Col Dave Dixon, hopefully promoted to a higher rank - to lead the new team into Stargate Universe.

Thats it my little rant and I hope you'll all agree with me a very good choice, RDA topped it all when he played Jack, so there can never be another Jack:jack:, ok Cam's:cameron: tried and Shepherd:sheppard: too but hey RDA nailed it big time. But lets see if Adam can fill his shoes in a new role.

long live Sci fi and Stargate - may it reign forever

If either Adam Baldwin or Nathan Fillion are cast, I'd be a happy camper (yes, I love Firefly... who doesn't?). :D

Yeah, AB was great in the Firefly series, he could be a good addition if he isn't the lead character in SGU.

Really? What the hell is wrong with you?

Anywho, Adam Baldwin's busy being awesome on Chuck.

I've been suggesting Adam Baldwin for about a week... in other threads. I do like the choice. They could even use the Cameron Balinsky character to fill the Daniel Jackson type of guy. However, it is likely that Baldwin wouldn't be available due to other projects. A lot would depend on filming schedules, and even if he wanted to do it or not. ;)

Who knows, maybe Chuck will start to suck and get cancelled in time for him to be picked up by SGU.

I suppose the same can be said for Nathan Fillion.

A lot of things are just based on timing. Ben Browder was being sought to play the Shepherd roll in SGA but couldn't due to filming of "Peacekeeper Wars".

G.

I can't imagine him in anything else but a supporting role.

He's on a hit network tv show. He's not leaving for SGU. Sometimes I think people live in their own, separate world.

I don't see why Universe has to have the strong military leader role of Jack Clones.

We don't need another Jack/Cam/Shep role, try to mix up the character archetypes; gives us someone completely different- someone who leads the team, but keeps to himself and has a massive ethical/ anger problem or something.

Take it back, take it back. Chuck must go on FOREVER!!!!! Its a fantastic show and Adam Baldwin is perfectly cast in the role he has.

Since Nathan's show isn't starting until 2009 I an sure he remains unavailable.

Both are incredible choices, just not available.

Where has been said that SGU is aimed at those under 15?

Ikaros

Well it's only arithmetics. If SGA is watched by 15-55( has top rates at those ages i think).
what is left for SGU?

They said that they're aiming for younger audiences with SGU..
Stupid excuse.....one of many....

Incredible. Adam Baldwin came to my mind as well! He could reprise the role of Colonel Dave Dixon from "Heroes".

I really hope they bring Jonus Quinn back for this series. There looking for a young talented cast. Adam Baldwin will be perfect along with Corin Nemec.

It will not get no better then that.

when they mean a younger audience i get the feeling they want to have more character development in the series

Speculation.

Well my post was in jest, but I personally think Jonas would die before he'd bow down and say "Hallowed are the Ori"

S'funny, I just posted on the "known actor" topic suggesting Adam Baldwin. But mainly so he can Jayne the hell out of the 'young talented cast' of inevitable brats..

and HOW is that going to be believable? A bunch of under-25s as expedition leaders and senior military personnel?? How unrealistic is that FFS???

I LOVE Adam Baldwin, but I hope they flesh out the character and make him unique instead of their last Firefly recruit who ws poorly written. :mckay:

Oh. And isn't Adam like 45? Maybe TPTB will think that's too old.

Chuck just got expanded to a full 22 episode second season because the network was so happy with how the season was turning out, not waiting for ratings to come in.

So he's going nowhere.

Chucks a great show, so while it'd be cool to see him in SGU, i'm happy with current situation.

While I would love to see either Nathan or Adam on Stargate - they are both currently employed so sadly it won't happen. I am looking forward to Nathan's new show www.castletv.net though - It'll be good to see Nathan in a leading role again

NO WAY !!! most of the people i know watching it are 20+.
Where did you see that?

So, since it is a very good chance that Adam Baldwin won't be available to reprise his role as Col. Dixon, just who is out there who could do a similar job? I'm figuring the same acting range and physical type.

Thoughts?

People that post here don't care that Adam Baldwin is working on another show. They're so wrapped up in Stargate that they just think the show runners can cast whoever they want without the actor actually agreeing.

Also, there a few things that Stargate fans should simply conceed:

1. The Furlings are never going to to be seen.
2. Jonas Quinn is never coming back to Stargate in any way, shape, or form.

It's the same thing every few months around here. People post threads about things that just won't ever happen.

For example:

SGU is announced and then it's "ZOMG!!!! The Furlings are going to be in the show, I just know it!!!!111" or "ZOMG DO YOU THINK THE FURLINGS WILL BE IN THIS SERIES? MAYBE THEY'LL BE THE BAD GUYS!!!!!!!"

Yup, it's speculating and it's fun. :)

So, anyone got any alternate, Baldwin-like choices? In another thread, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's name was suggested. Good, except he's possibly involved in other projects.
