Stargate: Universe - Making the Best Out of a Concept

I do not like the current concept for Universe, but I'm going to attempt to think out what might be a good spin on it so it isn't terrible... I mean, if we're going to have it, might as well try and live with it.

    Stargate: Universe
    Pilot Episode

    Spoiler:
    FADE IN:

[A great backdrop of stars is the only thing that can be seen. In subtitles, "Millions of years ago..." appears.]

    FEMALE VOICE:
    (Offscreen)
Once... long, long ago, there existed a race of powerful beings that dominated countless stars. Following a great and terrible war, they fled their homeworld, heading into the void beyond, and carrying with them a dream that would define their kind forever; to spread life, peace, and prosperity, and with it to bring an end to the despair that was all they had ever known.

[Now the camera pans down to reveal a reddish planet tinged with green and blue...]

    FEMALE VOICE:
    (Offscreen)
When at last they found a place to rebuild their society, they constructed a grand empire that, with time, would stretch from one edge of the known galaxy to the other...

[The camera glides through the clouds of the red planet, revealing the TEMPLE OF DAKARA and a massive city around it. ANCIENT craft are flying about, and it does seem like a true ALTERAN settlement.]

    FEMALE VOICE:
    (Offscreen)
But one day, that was no longer enough. Their worlds were full, overcrowded with the passage of time.

[The scene of DAKARA changes, now morphing into a city choked with people and ships.]

    FEMALE VOICE:
    (Offscreen)
And so these ancient peoples decided that this galaxy alone could not sustain them... and looked outward once more, to the stars...

[The camera pulls out, flying past DAKARA and other worlds (amongst them, primative, ANCIENT-owned versions of EARTH, LANGARA, the GOA'ULD HOMEWORLD, TAONAS, etc.) until it at last reaches the edge of the MILKY WAY GALAXY, which can be seen in its entirety now.

Dramatic music builds during this sequence, then fades along with the screen...]

    FADE TO: BLACK

    [Suddenly, the following appears center-screen.]

    Stargate
    Universe

    FLASH TO: JUNGLE, DAY

[The screen flashes with bright light, and when it fades, a dense JUNGLE appears. In subtitles, "Amazon Jungle, Present Day" appears. Four men and woman, accompanied by a few SOLDIERS, are making their way through the thick underbrush. The sun is high in the sky, and it is obviously quite hot.

The camera zooms in on one man in particular, a white male with brown hair and glasses... DR. DANIEL JACKSON.]

    DANIEL:
    (wiping brow, to others)
Come on! We've got to be almost there by now!

[Behind him, a woman with blonde hair grins... COL. SAMANTHA CARTER. Nearby are two others, VALA MAL DORAN and LT. COL. CAMERON MITCHELL. This is the famous SG-1, though what they're doing here is unclear.]

    MITCHELL:
    (tiredly)
Jackson, you said that an hour ago, when we were at that nice, beautiful little river crossing...
    (sighing)
And now we're here, at this nice, beautiful... nothing.

[DANIEL sighs, pulling an aged book out of his bag. He thumbs through it and turns to a page with an archaic-looking MAP.]

    DANIEL:
    (off the map)
According to this, the Ancients had a temple complex somewhere in this area... we just need to find it.

[VALA pushes past CARTER and grabs DANIEL, shaking him. She looks tired.]

    VALA:
    (annoyed)
Daniel, we've been out here for hours. There's no water in sight, and I just drank the very last drop from my canteen. If we don't find this "temple" of yours soon, I'm going to—

[She pauses mid-sentence, listening. The faint trickle of water on rock can be heard.]

    VALA:
    (excitedly)
    Water!

[She rushes off in the direction of the sound.]

    DANIEL:
    (shouting)
    Vala! Wait!

[DANIEL tears off after her, followed by a continually-grinning CARTER and an ever-annoyed MITCHELL. After a short bout of running, VALA leaps out of the jungle into a clearing... revealing a massive WATERFALL sliding down a cliff-face. She greatfully bends down and starts to gulp water.

After a moment, the others arrive.]

    DANIEL:
    (to VALA)
Vala, what do you think you're doing, exactly?

    VALA:
    (absently)
Attempting to stave off death-by-dehydration, Daniel. You really should try it sometime.

[Suddenly, there's a low beeping sound.]

    MITCHELL:
    (looking around)
Anyone else here that, or do I really need a drink, too?

[CARTER reaches to her belt and pulls off an ANCIENT SCANNER. It's lit up and its screen is flashing. Cautiously, CARTER holds it out toward the WATERFALL, and the beeping picks up.]

    CARTER:
    (re: the WATERFALL)
If I didn't know better, I'd say the waterfall's emitting some kind of energy reading...

    DANIEL:
    (skeptical)
    Sam... a waterfall?

[CARTER shrugs at him, then steps across a few rocks until she's at the foot of the FALLS. The beeping is very loud now, and she starts to slowly move behind the rushing water...]

    MITCHELL:
    (worried)
    Carter! Watch it!

[But she manages to get inside safely, and all that's heard is more beeping as the other SOLDIERS arrive behind SG-1. There's a long pause...]

    CARTER:
    (offscreen, shouting)
Guys, I think you'd better get in here...

[DANIEL and MITCHELL exchange a look, then DANIEL sighs, grabs VALA, and pulls her toward the FALLS.]

    MITCHELL:
    (to SOLDIERS)
Stay here and radio us if the SGC makes contact.

    SOLDIER 1:
    (nodding)
    Yes, sir.

[MITCHELL holsts up his P90 and runs after the others.]

CUT TO: INT - WATERFALL CAVE

[CARTER is standing just inside the CAVE with a pleased expression on her face, holding up a P90, with its flashlight on. After a moment, DANIEL and VALA slip inside.]

    DANIEL:
    (to CARTER)
    Alright, what is...

[He trails off as MITCHELL comes in.]

    MITCHELL:
    (confused)
    Guys? What's up?
    (looking forward)
Ah, now see, that's what I'm talkin' about!

[The camera pans to reveal an ANCIENT CONTROL CONSOLE, and behind it a RING PLATFORM.]

    CARTER:
    (muttering)
What better place to hide a temple than within a waterfall... the last place anyone's going to suspect to find some sort of outpost of an advanced society.

[She moves forward to the CONTROL CONSOLE, brushing her fingertips over the raised blocks that act as an interface.]

    CARTER:
    (absently)
    I wonder what it does...

[DANIEL moves past her, to examine the RING PLATFORM.]

    DANIEL:
    (to CARTER)
Sam, think we should check the place out first?

[CARTER nods, and she, VALA, and MITCHELL move over to the PLATFORM.]

    VALA:
    (to others)
Okay, if we awaken some evil ancient race in the process of harmlessly exploring, I am so not to blame this time!

[The others all laugh, then DANIEL keys in the correct code and they step inside the RINGS just in time to be transported.]

CUT TO: INT - WATERFALL CAVE, BELOWGROUND

[A RING PLATFORM activates belowground, and SG-1 is transported down. They all raise their P90s to shed some light, but it's not necessary; lighting fictures all around have sensed them and are coming online, revealing an atrium carved from solid stone, with a stone door at the other end of the room.]

    DANIEL:
    (stepping forward)
    Well, this is new.

[He approaches the door and it slides out of the way instantly, as if sensing him. The room beyond is dark.]

    MITCHELL:
    (coming closer)
Don't get yourself killed now, Jackson.

    VALA:
    (snorting)
How many times would that make, anyway?

[DANIEL ignores them and steps inside... lights immediately come on to reveal a small PEDASTAL, which immediately begins to radiate light itself. Back in the ATRIUM, CARTER'S SCANNER begins to beep furiously.]

    CARTER:
    (worried)
    Daniel...

[DANEIL waves at her to be quiet, just as the PEDASTAL's light explodes, creating a complex hologram of a GALAXY. A FEMALE VOICE (the same from earlier) begins speaking in ANCIENT.]

    FEMALE VOICE:
    (in ANCIENT)
Progressio de Fatum Exertus validus totus prestolatio...

[It continues speaking as the hologram pulls out to reveal another GALAXY.]

    MITCHELL:
    (entering)
    What's it saying?

[CARTER is caught up in scanning the area, and DANIEL replies absently.]

    DANIEL:
    (translating)
...progress of the "Destiny Project" has exceeded all expectations...
    (listening)
...colonization of Milky Way Galaxy completed, colonization of Pegasus Galaxy completed, colonization of Ida Galaxy completed...

    CARTER:
    (looking up)
    Wait a second, colonization?

    MITCHELL:
    (thinking)
Pegasus and the Milky Way we knew, but I thought only the Asgard lived in Ida?

[The HOLOGRAM now reveals a dozen galaxies, and the VOICE continues.]

    DANIEL:
    (astonished)
It doesn't mean colonization by people...
    (turning)
It's talking about the stargate network... the Ancients established stargates in all of these galaxies!

[The HOLOGRAM pulls out again, and now more than twenty GALAXIES can be seen.]

    CARTER:
    (astonished)
    But that would mean that...

    DANIEL:
    (finishing for her)
...that there are millions more stargates out there, all of them just waiting for us to find them.

[They all watch in stunned silence as the HOLOGRAM adds more and more GALAXIES, far more than you can easily count.]

ha nice read, sound enjoyable, however I suggest replacing the names Daniel, Vala, Carter , and Cameron with different names, the time of SG1 is over, we aren't making season 11 of SG1 here. But seriously don't judge SG:U until they've at least chosen every actor and made the script. it's just stupid I have high hopes for Universe, the stargate crew has been doing this a LONG time.

I dunno, I think it works. Atlantis was launched from SG1 in an SG1 episode and then in Rising with O'Neill and Jackson in the SGC.

I think SGU would have to either be launched by the SG1 team or the SGA team. (the former imo).

I guess your right, the writers would have to get the actors to do a cameo though and we all know tapping is very busy filming sanctuary.

Not really an issue though, I mean, we KNOW Carter is getting SOME new command, and with the military it's SO easy to say "so and so has been posted here". If they took the SG1 route, in theory you'd only need Shanks and a military escort, meaning Mitchell may be nice, but it could also be Colonel Reynolds, (although wanna bet Jack has some role?). Carter really wouldn't be needed. Or, as is also a possibility, the show directly offshoots from Atlantis, it would also be much easier for the chharacters to be used to spring board SGU, they're already doing SGA stuff.

That is a nice read and also possible. We know they colonized Pegasus and Milky Way. Also the Asgard in the SG1 episode The Fifth Race said when O'Niell arrived in the Ida Galaxy that the Ancients moved on from their region of space long ago so it is possible that they colonized the Ida galaxy too!

They must have. The Asgard HAD a Stargate.

                    Hi all -
So is that spoiler the real intro? If so, I like the concept.
However, I think that instead of SG-1 finding whatever (because I don't want to spoil the spoiler) or even SGA team finding whatever, what if another SG-Team - say another exploration team besides SG-1, accidentally finds whatever and in reviewing whatever is transported to Destiny?

Once whomever is on the Destiny, will they are able to communicate with the SGC via the Stagate network? Or will the SGC think that they are just dead? If that's the case, then I think it's almost pointless, since whatever new information they find out is useless. But since you can communicate via the Stargate network, they may be able to write something that says that because of the Destiny they can't get back because they can't open the gates to carry matter.

I'm hoping to see more about the SGU to go along with the SG World game. Even with Worlds taking place in SG-1 S8, I think that SGU will allow for some of the Worlds that are visited to be fleshed out in the game - since the world would exist in the SG universe as a whole.

                    Be Well.

Excellent, excellent way to open up the series. What better way to introduce the series and have a group of old faces to watch. This was done for Atlantis with O'Neill and Daniel, however, having the SG-1 team there would be great to have. I ain't saying that the entire episode focuses around them, although we would all love that. But they can at least open up this new series and gain SG-1 lovers to watch Universe.

I really like the humor and content you wrote s09119. It is so great that I believe you should send that to the producers. (Although knowing how producers are, they would just look aside. However, I have great respect for Wright and Cooper, so I believe that they "might" look at it.) Who knows, we could actually see your script shown in the pilot. Doubtful, but that would be great.

All I have to say though is, where's Teal'c? Busy working on building up the Jaffa Nation again? Probably. There should be a lil' thing thrown in to give background info on that.

Again, excellent job s09119. You have a great talent with writing.

There are no regrets. Thank you Brad Wright and everyone else for SGU,
and the amazing Stargate franchise in general.

Exactly, that's what I was thinking; have the old team really open it up so it's not completely new. Have them lead you into the new guys.

They have to ignore fanwritings, much as I wish otherwise haha. And thanks, whenever I write fanfiction I try to stick to the characters as much as possible.

Well he is a politician now. By this time I honestly see him spending more time with the Free Jaffa, especially since the war with the Ori is over.

Come on people let's add our opinion for things to make the concept of SGU better. Stories, ideas and characters. Any nasty little secret fantasy?
