I'll just post this for anyone who hasn't seen it. Rockne O'Bannon will be writing the Farscape comics (November Release) and it's gonna be Farscape cannon, picking up the story after Peacekeeper wars.

I haven't read a comic since I was a wee lad but I will have to get these.

Let's all mail him to make sure Dargo got saved by Jothy and didn't die in that suicidal last stand! :)

I wonder if that means that the webisodes Scifi.com was planning have been canceled?

Yeah, these comics are supposed to be the link between the series/PKW and the webisodes :)

O'Bannon said the comics will be the season 5 that we never got. Apparently John and company will go to Hyneria. And, as has been mentioned earlier, the comics will lead into the webisodes. I have a feeling that we won't see the webisodes until autumn of 2009. But it's a start and I'll gladly take it! I haven't been this excited since PK Wars!

I know exactly what you mean. I'm very excited too.:) If the Hyneria storyline does move forward, that would be great. I've always wanted to see Rygel re-take his throne.

Well, they are being distributed by BOOM! Studios. You could order them off of their website, possibly even Amazon.com or something like that. And if you are really lucky, your local comic store may have or be able to get them for you.

Me neither, actually. I never thought I would have a good reason to buy a comic book, honestly. Guess I was wrong about that.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Farscape might actually work quite well in comic format. It will definitely be worth a look. :)

I think it should work very well in comic book format. Especially with Rockne being a part of it. I really can't wait.:)

Well I'll definitely have to get these. Not a comic book reader myself, but I did buy the Firefly comics that bridged the gap between the series and the movie.

Yeah, it's not the same, but I'll take it over nothing. I just got through rewatching season 4 on dvd (first time I had seen the season since it originally aired), and it ticked me off yet again when I got to Bad Timing and even more when I listened to the commentary for that episode and to DK's wrap speech in the bonus features that we didn't get a fifth season. :mckay::mckay:

ETA: You can pre-order the first issue in the US from Things from Another World (http://www.tfaw.com/Series/Farscape/Profile/Farscape-1___331472). That's where I bought my Firefly ones from.

It seems there will just be 4 issues by the looks of the info on BOOM.com's site (http://www.boom-studios.net/catalogsearch/result/?q=farscape&x=38&y=4). But I don't think you can pre-order from there yet.

Hmm there seems to be two covers for each issue, but they haven't finalized the cover art yet.

I wouldn't say that the pictures are everything, but when you make a comic they are of importance.
If the story is good (and I believe it'll be), than I could ignore up to to some point that I don't like the style, but it's still a big part of the whole.
So I hope I'll like the style.

Maybe it was just some third special issue cover for the first one and then only two for the remaining three issues.

I remember reading somewhere that someone was talking about a 3rd cover cuz they were talking about how they could order it and had supposedly sent an email asking how since Boom was coding the issues the same.

I know I'm not dreaming that 3rd cover up. Though I could be. lol. :D

Found it. (http://blog.boom-studios.net/2008/09/farscape-now-available-for-order/)

"The Diamond order code for the first edition of the FARSCAPE comic is SEP083803. There will be 3 different covers released in a 50/25/25 ratio. Don’t forget to talk to your local comic shop about the 1 in 25 variant cover!"

It is just for the first issue.

November 26, you say? Damn, I'm working at Dreamhack next week. Hopefully I'll have some time to order the comics (assuming I can remember to)...

Also, I can't cancel my pre-order on tfaw, and they can't tell me what covers I'll receive. So it looks like I'll be getting the first two issues from them with unknown covers, plus all covers for every issue from BOOM (to make sure I get every cover). I think I've done my part :D

I clicked on Google's cache (http://74.125.45.132/search?q=cache:QIqqxAsJI2UJ:https://www.comicbookresources.com/%3Fpage%3Darticle%26id%3D471+farscape+comic+book+delayed&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a) for it and it showed a 2001 date.

So surely it won't end up being that long of a delay.

I saw this link on another Farscape list. Not sure how MTV got this but glad they did. The article doesn't say anything new but at the bottom is new cover art and the 1st 6 pages of the comic.

Yeah, the art work is less than desirable, imo. But the dialogue is certainly great so far. I can hear the characters saying those lines in my head. :) That bodes well for the series for me. Can't wait to read the rest.

Too bad they don't have comic books on tape where they get the actors to read those lines. lol.

Sweet. At the con we saw some of the artwork pages, but there was no dialogue on them.

I must say that the page with Aeryn, John and Little D, Aeryn doesn't look a THING like Claudia. WTF?! How hard is it to get a pic, screencap or something with Claudia? Other than that, the artwork looks good to me. Can't wait until they come out. :D

I hate when the art on the cover doesn't match the art inside. The X-Files comic adaptations [old and the current miniseries, the current one is a very good read, IMO] feature art that does a good job of representing the actors. Not so sure about this, though.
I'll read it for the story, not the art. It's great to have the actual creator writing it, not an adaptation writer whose work seems like bad fanfic.

He became quickly a lover of Chianna again... Maybe I remember badly to season 4 and PKW, but Chianna was with D'Argo. She cheated him with his son, but later D'Argo forgave and they became a pair again.

Maybe we should discuss this in spoiler tags? IMO, it is all part of her grieving process. Chiana was always a very sexual creature. She is just using Jothee to keep her occupied, so she doesn't have to fully experience the loss she has just suffered. Hopefully, we will see her go through some tough emotional times regarding D'Argo's death.

I have it in my hands, it's quite lovely. I went with cover A. I was tempted to get Cover B as well, but really...I just want the story and I liked cover A the best. The picture of the real actors for Cover C is nice, but for a comic cover it seemed really weird.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to me! :)

Spent the holiday weekend with my evil twinny (really good friend) and on Friday we hit the comic book store at the mall we were in. We both got a copy of the comic (she got the one with the image of John, Aeryn and Lil' D on it. I got the greenish blue background color cover, with Scorpy and the gang on it). Went and did more shopping and realized in Target that one of the two bags we had, had been dropped. *headdesk* I ran back to where I handed the bags to my twinny and nothing. Asked a Target employee if they'd seen anything, they looked in the back/lost & found area, nothing. I was heartbroken, it was my evil's copy that was lost. So Saturday, when we were out and about we stopped by the comic book store near her house and I bought her another copy (she loaned me the cash to get mine so I paid her back).

I haven't read it all yet, but the one thing that bugs me...the inside artist did NOT get Aeryn right at all. :bleh: It doesn't even LOOK like Claudia. What's with the yellowish brown eyes? Claudia's and in turn, Aeryn's eyes are BLUE.

BOOM! Studios announced today that after selling out in five days, FARSCAPE #1 will be receiving a second printing. The second print will have a slightly altered cover to distinguish itself from the first printing.

Diamond Comics Distributors will make the second printing of FARSCAPE #1 available on January 14th, at that time the second printing's code will open for orders, and a Diamond Daily article will also run that day alerting retailers to its availability.

Agreed. The writer got Aeryn spot on.

I'm glad they got this writer to do the series as he obviously has a feel for the characters, and nice to see that he will be the one for the next series. While I can completely ignore the artwork, it would be more difficult to ignore weird characterizations and dialogue.

Of course the first issue wasn't going to be all action packed. You have to pace yourself and set up the story first and then hopefully get readers to come back for the second one.

I thought Aeryn in Issue #1 was very true to her character on the show too. I liked how it portrayed her struggling with being a new mother. This is all very foreign to her, a soldier almost all of her life.

And I totally agree about the first issue setting everything up for the rest of the series. The next three issues will be jam-packed with action, of that I am sure.

I wonder how much the reviewer really knows of Farscape. Because Aeryn while she looks human is not and growing up in the Peacekeeper culture has no idea what to do with kids, although she has learned alot. The 1st season Aeryn probably wouldn't be paying attention to the kid at all.

One of the things I love about Farscape is the reversal in attitudes, emotion, etc between Aeryn and John. And I wonder that someone that just has a superficial understanding of the show doesn't realize how important and definitive that is, and are expecting Aeryn to behave more like a human female.

Honestly, the reviewer probably doesn't know as much as he thought. Seeing how she acts around little D'Argo, and adjusts to being a mother, is very important to see IMO. It definitely would have been addressed thoroughly in the show, so why not do it in the comic?

I ran across this link posted on another site.

Top 300 Comics Actual--December 2008 (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/14111.html)

These are estimates of the sales by Diamond U.S. to comic specialty stores during December 2008.

Farscape #1 ranked 187 with an estimated 12,777

Is that ranking relatively good?

On another note, anyone know when Issue #2 is supposed to actually come out. This wait is a real killer.

Looked pretty good to me since almost all the comic up to rank 150 were DC or Marvel. More than I thought would be printed.

Got me if that's a good ranking or not. I'd like to think so. Hey at least it made the list.

I just saw the link posted over at Whedonesque in reference to the Buffy and Angel comics.

And about #2's date, I looked over at Terra Firma and Keith DeCandido who posts as krad over there said it should be out the last week of January. Which should be the 28th as I think new comics are released on Wednesdays.

I also saw the link to this (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2009/01/boom-studios-chip-mosher-on-hexed-farscape-and-more/) interview with BOOM's sales and marketing guy on his LJ....

JK: So let’s talk about some of those books … Farscape #1 came out on Christmas Eve, and you announced a second printing on Monday. So I’m guessing sales at the retailer level exceeded your expectations?

Chip: Yes, Santa came early this year! Okay, seriously… Farscape #1 has done great. And while it looks like the weather stopped some stores from getting their copies on time. But even with that hiccup, the reorder activity was so tremendous that we sold out and now are going to a second printing. We are all really happy about how well this book has performed for us.

JK: The reaction to these sorts of announcements always fascinates me. While the publisher obviously wants to play up the fact that the book sold out from the distributor — which is what we’re talking about in this case, correct? Not that the book can’t be found on any retailer shelf anywhere in America — you typically see comments about how the book probably had a low print run, someone didn’t anticipate demand, etc. As a sales and marketing guy, what’s your perspective? And beyond orders from retailers, what goes into the decision to overprint something?

Chip: When a sell-out happens at the distributor level, obviously we want to get the word out to the fans so they have a chance to get a copy. As a sales and marketing guy, I want everyone who wants a copy of the book to get a copy of the book. We had strong initial orders from retailers for this book and tried to meet the expected demand. But sometimes you can’t anticipate just how strong the fan reaction is going to be.

JK: What are the plans for Farscape after the initial mini-series?

Chip: We’re doing a follow-up called Farscape: Strange Detractors. Rockne S. O’Bannon is back writing with Keith R.A. DeCandido. On this series, we have newcomer Will Sliney on art. It’s looking great.

JK: Are you guys hearing feedback from Farscape fans? I remember fans of the show being pretty dedicated. Are retailers seeing a different set of customers coming in for the book?

Chip: The Farscape fans have really been driving the success of the Farscape #1 comic. We have really great relationships with the fan sites and have become close personal friends with a ton of the ‘Scapers out there. I suspect retailers are seeing a lot of new faces in their stores because of this book.

Thanks, LoneStar.:) I'll definitely be looking for Issue #2 next week. I can't wait to see how this story continues.

Wow, i just heard that we actually have a 3rd series coming out? This is going to get expensive, but I'm happy for more scape in any form:

FARSCAPE
: D'ARGO'S LAMENT #1

Written by Keith R.A. DeCandido, art by Tommy Patterson, covers by Michael DiPascale and Will Sliney.

Ka D'argo lives on -- only in this Farscape mini-series set in continuity during Season 3 between episodes "Revenging Angel" and "Fractures!" Follow the adventures of John Crichton's best friend D'argo as he's forced to not only save the day and end planetary war, he's got to do it all with mouthy "princess" Jool along for the ride. And that means trouble!

24 pages, $3.99.

I saw that yesterday. Though I wonder if they are cannon. I didn't see Rockne's name attached to it.

But they could be an interesting read anyway since it's the same writer.

I heard it on the Scapecast, and I thought they said Rockne was still involved. I'll have to verify.

The cover art looks good, hopefully it's similar inside. I don't know how I feel about this mid-season stories though, it seems like they sort of limit where they can go (though i guess I love the SG-1 fandemonium novels, so nevermind :) )

Yeah here we go:

The other comics project I've been working on is yet another Farscape miniseries: D'Argo's Lament. I'm writing this one on my own (though Rockne's still serving as "executive producer," vetting my scripts), with art by Tommy Patterson, the same gent doing the current miniseries. The story takes place in the third season between "Revenging Angel" and "Fractures," and has D'Argo and Jool taking the "D'Argomobile" (the ship that would later be christened Lo'La) on a mission to find a substance that Moya needs to survive. (Recall that at the end of "Revenging Angel," D'Argo promised Jool the first ride in his ship. This miniseries will be that first ride...)

Quick belated note on that #187 ranking thing -- yes, that's fantastic, given that the comics industry is pretty much Marvel and DC and then everyone else is a distant third.....

The comics are as follows:

Farscape (4 issues)....which is supposed to have a hard cover volume put out. The HC volume is up for pre-order on TFAW (http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/Farscape-HC___339576), but the release date is completely unknown. So you should be able to buy it online if it is ever released and TFAW ships internationally as well if you aren't in the US.

Strange Detractors (4 issues)....follows on the heels of the first set. The first 2 issues are currently out and the third issue should be coming out this Wednesday (May 27).

Gone and Back...not out yet and will follow after Strange Detractors.

D'Argo's Lament (4 issues)....takes place during season three...the second issue should come out this next Wednesday (May 27).

And once D'Argo's Lament ends, D'Argo's Trial will commence. This will be a flashback story that details D'Argo's marriage to Lo'Laan, her murder, and D'Argo's trial (ahem) for that murder.

Each of the miniseries will be collected into single volumes, which will be available in comic book stores, bookstores, over the internet, and from anyone else who sells books...

Thanks krad. Which series will deal with the return of D'argo, or is that being saved for some video stuff?

Like I could trick you into revealing something...you could tell us if you know one way or another though about D'argo :)

D'Argo's Trial sounds very intriguing. Thanks for the heads-up.:)
