"Shout Box"?

I know that this has kinda already been discussed with the 'chatroom' idea, but I've seen this on a few other sites that use VBulletin (sp?), and since it tends to be a bit lower-key than a full-fledged chatroom I was wondering why we don't have one.

2. Sure it moves along quicker than conventional posting, but there are plenty of Mods about to keep things under control.

3. The forum will still be here, just with a shout box added on.

I think the Forum is fine the way it is, but I wouldn't mind a shoutbox.

1. Shout Boxes don't give anything other than contribute to spam and bandwith leeching of a site.

2. There is no possible way to monitor a forum's Shout Box when it has over 10 active members on it (believe me, I've tried and failed, we were 3 mods for the Shout Box alone)

3. The Shout Box becomes the center of all debate, stupidness and spam. Not to mention that it's also the best place to chat with the least amount of chances someone will report something offensive.

I've never been a big fan of the shoutbox. They don't seem to be used for much other than snippets of nothing.

My personal theory is that there will be no shoutbox.

But the shoutboxes are basically just like the forum, but with everyone posting within one thread really quickly! I'm not much of a shoutbox fan, but even if it was to be used, I probably would hardly ever use it. But if there was in IRC channel then I'd drop in!
