Why don't the Wraith use the vines as an internal Hive-defence. Much more effective than those Warrior Patrols.

Cuz when they are done growing they are detached from the person they grew out of or just are just done growing and are not alive as much as they were when growing.

Two possible reasons:

- once grown they detach from the [human] mind that is controlling their movement.

- as said in the ep, the stuff is like an insects exoskeleton: initially flexible, but eventually hardening to become a solid (and therefore with limited movement) shell.

It also took a while for everything to start growing. Not exactly a great defense system for a ship. Second, there didn't seem to be anything that would keep it from going after the ship itself.

Also, a defensive measure like that would take alot of energy. Those things need energy to survive it seems...
