    "The Prodigal" (514) Pre-Airing Discussion/Speculation Thread

    Writer: Carl Binder
    Director: Andy Mikita

    ---

We spent the afternoon spinning Carl’s idea, a story Alan is calling “The Red Shirt Diaries”.

Yeah, so that won't be the real title, unless now they're referencing soft-core porn.

You may wonder why I didn't put "Carl Binder" as the writer: well, they usually spin the idea out before giving it to someone to write, and we're not there yet.

.: Really? Is that the working title at the moment? Admittedly, I'm intrigued.

With these guys, you never know.

However, it's more likely that this'll be the Atlantis version of The Other Guys, featuring some minor Red Shirt-type characters. My guess, anyway.

I remember something on showtime called the Red Shoes Diaries. I never watched it though...*whistles innocently and walks away.*

Don't the Atlantis commanders (plus Teyla) wear 'red shirts'? If that's the case, then this will probably be a Woolsey ep IMO.

Well, not anymore... Good bye Atlantis!

nah 'red shirt' will be a reference to the original star treks tendency to kill off random supporting characters every episode for sure. Which makes me wonder if they're gonna kill some people off.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

Yep. That's probably it. Personally, I'm surprised that no one else figured that out.

That does seem like the most likely scenario. A look at life on Atlantis and the regular characters through the eyes of the ordinary soldiers/scientists on the base - ie redshirts.

My mind didn't flash to the Shoes part, you know!

                          'Funny' title...

Hopefully the eps will all be of quality, cos this seems a non-qual one, judging by the title only, unless it changes, of course...

                          In Loving Memory of Wraithlord.

I wish I got to know you better.

I didn't think it needed to be said, given that "Red Shirt" is a fairly common term in scifi fandom and generally implies a character (or characters) brought along to die.

I'm surprised that some don't know that. I have no problem with killing off random supporting characters, that's the reason to have them. Better than killing off main cast and you need people to die to make it more realistic.
