    See through the Stargate

On the homepage, they are showing a picture of an Earth Ship and there is a stargate in orbit. You can see the planet through the event horizon. Is this wrong? Normally, you can't see past an event horizon. But I remember a few episodes where you can (perhaps I am wrong, not a great memory).

For that matter, shouldn't you be able to see the dialing world when the gate activates. The light from the other side should travel through the gate and, with my no science background I would think, produce an image.

    Is this all rubbish?

The Stargate's event horizon is only translucent if you're behind the Stargate looking. When in front, you just see the shimmering puddle of light.

The Stargate is designed to only allow matter being pushed through. This means that a person, vehicle, bird, or whatever could go through where as water, atmosphere, and light will not. There are some exceptions, though, like radio waves for communication which can travel both ways.
