I think Stargate McSheppard or more accurately, Stargate McKay would sum up the show.

Hmm, Stargate McShep/McSheppard sounds like a sandwhich. Stargate McKay sounds like a porno movie.

So I'm not really excited about a new season with absolutely no Elizabeth and only a few episodes for Carson. Yes, I know they've said 5, but after seeing what Elizabeth and Sam got in some of their episodes in season 4, I'm taking 5 with a grain of salt.

When it comes to the whole leading lady thing, as far as I'm concerned it was Elizabeth and now it should be Teyla. However, they need to write her that way and unfortunately I could see them thinking the way to do that is to make Shep and Teyla a canon romance.
I know what you mean...with out Beckett and Weir the show is a totally different show to me. (kind of like what they did to the last 2 seasons of SG-1.)

Now the show is more forced "team" moments that is really too late to develop now.

I would have liked to have seen Teyla be more up front as the leading lady but after ignoring her for 3 years it's a little late to develop the character into leading material. Of course, for tptb there really is no "leading lady" of the show. Just a bunch of talking heads with long hair.

I think Teyla should be leading lady now too. But I think she should get her own development that doesn't have anything to do with being Shep's girl. Maybe that doesn't make sense but I want Teyla to become her own character. That'll never happen if she's shipped with Shep.
To develop Teyla into the leading lady it would require far more teyla in the series...heaven forbid tptb take away more time from McKay and Sheppard.

The "leading lady" was weir and tptb decided that she wasn't the leading lady and got rid of her...rather coldly I might add.

Hence, Stargate Command. Looks like they haven't finished making that show yet.

We can even bring back Rod, he & Rodney can be dual act. Shep could be batman!
As funny as it would be to see JF dressed in tights and Rod to be "super boy" or the "boy wonder" somehow I think I would become violently ill and have massive convulsions...especially if they put DH in tights.

I think it's safe to say....Sheppard is the "leading man." and McKay is the "leading lady" of stargate...atlantis.

You know I'd agree with you on that. The way they are writing those two, it's not that hard to imagine.

it would be nice to see teyla do something beyond being the perpetual peacekeeper, but i just don't have much faith.

lucius and his return, along with some lines from recent episodes kinda suggest to me that the show's maturity level isn't going up, it'll plateau around the 19 year old level. cause that's easier and it's fun and it's easy and...you get the picture.

shallow is the name of the game. so i don't see teyla, or vega or whomever else they add being allowed to be any more than a disposible character, trotted out when the plot demands, but not allowed to really carry it.

it's a boy's show, and the girls are only there for set decoration

Have you ever seen Midsummer Night's Dream? Just imagine Shep and Rodney as modern day Bottoms (they even act like Jacka- donkeys sometimes)- both of them can- and probably will- play all of the "important" roles in the show while Teyla and Ronon get stuck playing stuff like the Wall.

Of course, that says some weird things about the scene between Pyramus and Thisbe, but we'll ignore it as depressingly accurate for now.

what i meant by lucius' return is the fact that he ever came back for a second episodse in hte first place.

the fact that they thought he was so great he deserved an encore when he was one of the most disliked characters on the show. Just kinda shows how out of touch they are with fans in general

Do we even want to know?

Like Weir, Teyla had potential to be so much more but the writers have been unwilling to give the character real direction and growth other than cop out mary-suisms like the wraith DNA (being able to control wraith queens pfft). With TBTB handling of the character its hard to really take her seriously.

I'd say they are out of touch with reality in general, since they thought that using basically "date rape drug" was hilarious in the first place.

but they are doing a great job in every respect we are clearly just delusional, or have a working brain, one of those 2 at least.

Well, not to defend the writers or anything, but both Lucius eps took place in the same season, so I don't think it was a case of them deliberately bringing back a much-despised character as much as it was a case of TPTB being so far out of touch with reality and so enamored of their own writing "prowess" that they probably couldn't even conceive the idea that anyone (beyond the usual suspects) could ever dislike Lucius. And since they loved him so much and they thought he was a great character, why not treat themselves (and fans) to another appearance?

And then Irresistible aired to waves of hatred and left the writers in a state of sulky shock. Hate Lucius?! How could they possible hate Lucius?? But alas, the second ep had already been written (and possibly filmed) so there was nothing they could do but bull forward with it.

I'm still not sure they understand why so many found him objectionable, though, and I doubt they've learned anything from this lesson beyond maybe the fact that fans aren't as smart as they thought- which is kinda scary, given the low opinion many of them seem to have about us.

As for how any of this S4 talk applies to S5, like I said, I think the writers are completely out of touch with what fans want. But then again, I don't think they really care, either, as they've gone to great lengths to remind us all that this is their show and they are writing a show that they like. That means macho, womanizing men and their comical sidekicks, interchangeable females and an ineffective leadership (other than the Almighty Shep, of course, Who Can Do No Wrong).

Will Lucius show up again in S5? Probably not. I think TPTB were hurt and insulted by his rejection, but then again, that could be used as a reason to bring him back. It'd be another "frak you" to fandom, it'd prove that it's still TPTB's show, it'd give them a chance to play with a character they love and maybe even act as an opportunity to try and prove to us why he's so awesome.

Or as an alternative, we could wind up with Lucius's twin brother, who's nothing more than a victim of his evil brother's machinations. He's an angel. A paragon of virtue. Not a sly thought enters his his head. Really.

Hmm... I've said this ebfoer, but I do think it's a good thing they're doing the show they like, rather than trynig to guess what all teh fans would like and do it despite not liking it personally - they have only their judgement to go by, and they should.

It's jsut that their idea of "good" and mine are no longer similar, it seems.
