MastersFX Provides New FX to Film, TV, DVD and Webisode Projects

    DMN Newswire

    2008-2-7

Todd Masters and his company Mastersfx, specializing in prosthetic,
animatronic, and makeup effects for film and television, continues to
prove that the practical character FX industry is alive and well, by
conjuring up new effects by blending modern and classic techniques.
The company most recently has provided effects to multiple, new
feature film, television, direct-to-DVD and web series projects. The
new effects for these projects were produced in both Mastersfx's
Vancouver, BC, and Arleta, CA, studios. Todd Masters, Founder,
    Mastersfx, made the announcement.

Masters said, "Although it's tempting today for filmmakers to go to a
so-called push-button approach for their FX, an all-digital solution
for FX shots typically ends up with unsatisfactory results. Audiences
can usually pick apart the computer-added elements, and that visual
distraction often takes them out of the experience. For most work,
the best mantra for filmmakers is, `If we can shoot it on set, then
let's shoot it!' We bring our experience creating practical FX to
each project, integrating that into the digital process."

    ABOUT STRAIGHT TO DVD PROJECTS:

Mastersfx has been signed to contribute a diverse array of make-up special effects to two, MGM Studios produced direct to DVD releases from the Sci-Fi Channel: "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" and "Stargate: Continuum," both of which will be released during March 2008.

Robert C. Cooper, executive producer of Sci Fi Channel's original series "Stargate: SG-1" said that the franchise's saga ends and begins anew in the upcoming direct-to-DVD movies "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" and "Stargate: Continuum." "The Ark of Truth" wraps up the storyline arc begun in the show's ninth season, which introduced the Ori and their crusade to conquer the galaxy. "SG-1" wrapped up its 10th and last season on Sci Fi during June 2007, while some of the story arcs remained open-ended. "The idea for the first movie ["The Ark of Truth"] was going to be the cliffhanger ending to season 10 and the start of an arc that would have lasted most of season 11, if season 11 had been picked up," Cooper said. "But that didn't happen, and we revised that concept and turned it into the story for the
    first direct to DVD movie."

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. announced that Richard Dean Anderson
again reprises his role as Gen. Jack O'Neill in the studio's straight-to-DVD movie "Stargate: Continuum," based on SCI FI Channel's original series "Stargate: SG-1." Anderson joins cast members Ben Browder and Amanda Tapping for the project, which was shot on location in the sub-zero climate of the Arctic, where the production worked in collaboration with the U.S. Navy's Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station.
