Chuck, Bionic Woman, Reaper, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Moonlight, New Amsterdam - this just a partial list of the newest sci-fi shows to premiere this season. Now, seemingly more than ever, networks are looking to be your pusher by getting you addicted to their high concept, yet hopefully high on content, programming.
The jury is still out on the majority of these freshmen so let's take a look at some of the graduates of the school of Engrossing Television.

Like Buffy, Stargate SG-1 started out as a film that didn't really live up to its potential. After 10 seasons on television, consider that issue solved. Through the years, SG1 has created a fascinating universe built around every mythology from Egyptian to Greek to Norse. Toss in Richard Dean Anderson as the snarky and enjoyable team leader Col. Jack O'Neil (who's initial option to solving most problems involve weapons, fire or explosions) and you'd be hardpressed to find a fanboy or girl who could resist the show's charm.
Other series included are: Torchwood, Alias, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel, Doctor Who, Firefly, Lost, Star Trek, Twin Peaks, and The X-Files.
Agree or disagee? What is your favorite engrossing show? What did we leave off the list? Which new show has the most potential of making the list in the future? [Discussion at the site]
