Citing the on-going writers strike, NBC Universal may decide to cancel its annual upfront presentation for advertisers, affiliates and the media that it hosts at Radio City Music Hall in May, according to a Reuters report. Jeff Zucker, CEO, said the company would still hold one-on-one meetings with advertisers and the way they sell the inventory during the upfront selling period won’t change, just the bells and whistles show may not happen. NBCU is expected to announce a final decision soon.
On Friday, NBCU also reported a 10% increase in operating profit and an 8% revenue growth, and Zucker indicated the rise in quarterly operating profit could be largely due to the performance of the company’s cable division which includes USA Network, Bravo, SCI-FI Channel, MSNBC, CNBC and now Oxygen.
