More on Amanda Tapping in "Earthsea"

Tuesday, July 27
Our last day in the studio. The rigging crews are busy stripping out the pipes and lights from the sets. We also had a "C" camera crew with the VFX [visual-effects] and SPFX crews finishing off the elements they needed — more bangs and explosions. On main unit, Isabella [Rossellini, who plays High Priestess Thar] came to set ready, in costume, and then explained to Rob why her character would not have been in the scene. Rob agreed, and, in the end, Isabella did not act on her last day. She laughed and joked with everyone around video village [the part of a set housing the monitors] for a while and gave the crew a heartfelt goodbye, and was gone just before lunch. I think everyone was touched by her grace and good humor throughout the shoot.
Main Unit finished its work and went over to the VFX shoot and shot Lady Elfarran on a teeter-totter rig that approximates her floating in the air. Ged [Shawn Ashmore], near the beginning of the movie, conjures up [the late] Lady Elfarran, and her role is a VFX sequence cut into what we will shoot on the last day of production. I understand the Production department and the assistant directors worked it out with Stargate SG-1 to get Amanda Tapping for a few hours to shoot this cameo sequence.
