Sci Fi Promotes Howe to President

Hammer Also to Retain President Title

Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 1/16/2008 6:38:00 AM

Dave Howe has been named president of Sci Fi Channel, officials said Wednesday.

Previously, Howe held the title of Sci Fi general manager and executive vice president. But in an unusual situation, Howe’s boss, Bonnie Hammer, will retain her titles of president of both USA Network and Sci Fi Channel, although Howe will now be running Sci Fi and its original programming unit will now report to him, not Hammer.

Howe will oversee original development, programming and marketing, global brand strategy and market development, strategic planning, Sci Fi digital (Scifi.com, Sci Fi Pulse, DVice.com), Sci Fi Magazine, media relations and Sci Fi’s recently launched public-affairs initiative, “Visions for Tomorrow.”

Considering the massive push for USA Network shows (yes, full page COLOR ads in the New York Times!), and the DVice.com, I wouldn't hold my breath

Well, I'd rather see a PYSCH ad than a Cialis ad, although the latter probably pulls in more money for the network while PSYCH ads may be a writeoff...

Well ads advertising network shows costs them since it takes up space. Did you see what I posted in the Ratings thread. By the time "The Kindred" comes along, there will be no network competition.

well, the reality show machine is cranking up to churn out lord knows what dreck to saturate the airwaves, so I wouldn't say there'll be competition However, whether it's intelligent fare is what remains to be seen

I wonder if American Idol tonight is giving GHI a run for it's money.

I wonder if I can firebomb both of those locations...

Sounds like it may have been a local break. Sometimes the nets buy time from the local cable systems to supplement advertising on other stations.

                        What's GHI?

Probably. It's interesting to see just the fraction of a second of an ad before it's cut off and a local ad (usually horrid) is laid over the spot of a national ad.

If you read the GHI forum, not too many people are happy with the new show. I've watched the show many times. So I have an honest fair assesment on the show. It is boring and most of it is fake, imo.
