What do you hope for in the new opening theme to Atlantis?

I'd be OK with just about anything, as long as it isn't a reuse of a Rod Stewart song.

Anyone play that PC game "Age Of Mythology"? The song on the main menu would be cool as the theme song. :)

More mystical, less egyptian, smoother. Would be cool to have some SG-1/Movie undertones for continuity. I don't like the idea of using a song with lyrics like Enterprise.

Something like SG-1, but with more drums :D

Haha... just as long as it's not like the theme song from Infinity! Yeah... but I doubt they'd go for a song with lyrics... I'm almost sure it'll be just music. And I have faith in the musical people to create a great theme.

I still like the first part of Track #5 on the SG-1 soundtrack. "Egyptology". It's just a remix of the theme, but I like the ethnic-y sound of it.

Atlantis will likely be quite a bit different from SG-1, though, just to distinguish itself.

I think something mystical sounding would be good. Anything different to SG-1s, which personally, i've always found quite boring.

I also hope the actual theme is more exciting than SG-1s Season 1-5s theme with the big egyption head thing.

Boring?!?! if David Arnold was dead he'd be turning in his grave right now! I believe the Stargate theme is one of the greatest themes to have been created. I rank it up there with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones themes.

I like this thread. Music is good. I think it should maybe have an adventurous upbeat feeling, yet still feel dark. The Imperial march was upbeat, yet it had the dark connotations to it. I think they should have some dark variation to the Stargate theme.

Does anyone know if the producers will be getting Joel Goldsmith to do the music on Atlantis? he will afterall be doing it for SG-1 and Atlantis, which would be a hard thing to do. Scoring 40 odd episodes would be difficult to keep the music interesting.

I'd like to see the producers bring in David Arnold to do a nice new theme tune :) I'd like to see them experiment a little with the music in the show and perhaps bring in some new composers. See if they can add a new dimension to the music.

And also, please no cheesy singer  that would be bad in oh so many ways :o

I could go for anything. I would love a big brass over the top percussionistic adventurous theme with perhaps a gothic feel to it. Adding some choral elements to it could definitely gothic it up a bit.

I read this on gaters and i think it was interesting:

From what I've seen and heard about the show (along the basic knowledge about the sutff regarding Atlantis), it has some links to the greek and roman cultures, so I'd expect something more in line with the music generally affiliated to that part of the world.
More Caesar-like music, less egyptian.

Think Gladiator!

Maybe it wasn't just the theme music, as I mentioned seeing a big egyption head thing for 5 seasons isn't real entertaining. The change in Season 6 was a little better.

The theme atleast fits the show, i'll give them that :)

Next time you say something is boring at least know what you mean. You thought the motion control shot of the headmask of ra was boring. I can understand why you might think that.

Personally I loved it. It was mysterious, it was different. It was something not a lot of shows had. Most shows would rely on a montage of shots in which there is a cut every 2 seconds to keep their viewers interested, which SG-1 has went for in since they moved to the Sci-Fi Channel. Anyways, we're talking about the music involved and not the visuals of the opening titles. :)

I have no idea for a theme song. It would have to be catchy and interesting and less Egyptian like as obviously this series has nothing to do with egyptian things. Well, sort of

Well I think that we have already heard parts of the Atlantis theme if you listen to the last minutes of Lost City part 2 when the "Jack" thing happens and the team is talking...listen to the background music...it sounds pretty cool.

I said it wasn't just the theme music, I still think the theme music is boring and that the headmask didn't help much, perhaps it's because i've seen the theme so many times, I can't remember what I thought of it the first time I saw it.

I thought it was great for the movie, but got old fast for the TV series. They certainly did need something to grab the audience more. Enterprise might not have the great opening, but is somewhat drawing. I hope Atlantis is updated.

I vote for bringing back David Arnold to do the Atlantis theme. He nailed it for Stargate the movie and for Independence Day. I cant see him doing any wrong if he were given the chance to do the Atlantis theme.

David Arnold would be nice.

It should have a grand and mysterious feeling to it. Something like TNG and Voyager, with a little mix of the Frank Herbert's Dune music (Dune music had a grand and epic feeling to it.)

No computer generated garbage. It should be done with a real orchastra.

So let me get this straight... they took the Ra's mask thing and used it for the intro for the ENTIRE FIRST 5 SEASONS???? Wow... now I'm incredibly glad they changed it for SciFi... I was wondering why it looked like that in my "Children of the Gods" download...

EDIT: thought I'd say my own opinion of the SG-1 theme. I think it is perfect... it's an excellent cutting of the movie theme (which I don't like in its entirety, honestly...) and it works well with the images used on SciFi. Also, I forgot to comment on that comment about Enterprise's theme. I love that theme (the seasons 1 and 2 version was better, though), and with those historical videos in the background, it's just so very inspiring... I love it!

It's not just a theme, it's an entire score.

I remember when I first heard the score in the movie. I thought it was inspiring! I still love to listen to it. I miss that they don't use the themes from the score in the show as frequently now. I don't know why.

Remember the Ra theme? It's really scary. The romance theme reminds me a little of John Williams/Max Steiner. I also love the Jaffa theme. It reminds me of that "OEO" thing in "The Wizard of Oz" But then that's the point, creating a score is like creating a subliminal language for the film , or show.

A TV show is lucky to get a score like that. I doubt they can spend that kind of money for "Atlantis". But maybe we'll be lucky.

Hopefully, the Atlantis theme will be a Joel Goldsmith theme. He's done some very lovely work, not only for this series, but a wide variety of other TV series as well, including a guilty pleasure of mine, the '94 TV series, "Hawkeye."

Joel uses a synthethizer a lot...wonder if he could an "underwater" echo to it?

Or he could put add an electronica rendtion to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine."

The SG-1 theme only mix in some tribal drums and chimes. Maybe make the original theme a little darker...but dramatic.

Maybe they should just hire an entire orchestra, teach them to scuba dive, and get them to perform the SG1 theme under water. Wonder what that would sound like.

Whoever does it should come in with chanting along with the theme from Gustav Holst's Neptune, and then somehow blend in to the theme from the movie

As long as it isn't RDA's theme song per the Lowdow...the circus music.

I really really hope it's not an "underwater" theme... that'd suck, I mean, SG-1's theme did kinda make me feel like exploring, but I think having an underwater theme for Atlantis would be kinda crap...

... the Enterprise theme sucked (IMO) because it was the only one out of the 5 series' that had lyrics, they should've stuck to the format of musical intros.

Ra's headmask was excellent for the movie, and I really loved the season1/2 opening credits (it's s3-s5 they used the facemask again I believe)

back to Atlantis' theme, as long as they get someone with half a clue in to do the music I'm sure it'll be great. I have great faith in everything SG... Yes, even Infinity, they still have chance to make it better...
