You don't have to COMPLETE the novel within a month...

The month of time is when the open call for submissions of story proposals is open...

Would imagine that depends on how successful this opportunity turns out...

i would imagine that they're looking for a set number of books/writers. they'll secure those stories, then if that batch is successful, they'll open it again

            just my guess

Interesting. If I had more time and some good ideas, I'd give it a try. 2000 words isn't that much. 5 pages?

2,000 words is about 4 pages in 12 pt type (times new roman)

60,000 words are about 70 single spaced, 10 pt times new roman pages.

if you use 12 pt type (which, i think, is standard for submissions) you average about 500 words per page so your story would be roughly 150 pages (that's single spaced, it's 200 something if you double space them)

It can be done. I wrote just a shade over 60,000 words in a month.

they key is to have your plot, have your story and just work on it a little at a time.

could it be possible they meant 200?

If they're judging whether to commission a novel they'll want a detailed synopsis. The 2000-4000 words would include the basic action for the entirety of the 80,000 word novel. They need enough detail to judge how the book will go in the end.

I think I might give it a go if I can bring my style back down to a more conventional Stargate millieu. I mean, if I don't, I'll only wonder what might have happened.

A Cherokee elder sitting with his grandchildren told them,
"In every life there is a terrible fight – a fight between two wolves.
One is evil: he is fear, anger, envy, greed, arrogance, self-pity,
resentment, and deceit. The other is good: joy, serenity, humility,
confidence, generosity, truth, gentleness, and compassion."
A child asked, "Grandfather, which wolf will win?"
The elder looked the child in the eye. "The one you feed."
