    HD-DVD availability?

Anyone know details about the two new movies being available in HD DVD?

What about the series as a whole?

I just collected every available season on regular DVD. I would hate to have to buy them again, but it would be worth it!

There is no news recent news on any type of High Definition release of Stargate.

However, if it happens then it very likely will not be released on HD-DVD but Blu-Ray. Sony owns part of MGM and they did all they could to make MGM support blu-ray exclusively. The fact Stargate was released on Blu-Ray only and there was old news about Atlantis being done on Blu-Ray, HD-DVD does not appear to be a possibility at all.

Also, the distributor, 20th Century Fox is also Blu-ray exclusive.

As far as television shows go, HD DVD would not be a good format to work with long term. The capacity is just too low, and the bandwidth is not as high as Blu-ray's is. The players may be cheaper, but the technology just will not be a good idea to invest in long term. Blu-ray has far more manufacturers for its hardware.

MGM = owned by Sony, and Sony is the major player in blue ray's development. So I seriously doubt that it will be on HD DVD sadly.

Except that, as it stands, all those touted extra features for Blu-Ray are worthless because no current player supports them AND the fact that there are multiple blu-ray specifications around, and not all players are compatible with all specifications. Really, the only thing Blu-Ray has on the technical side at the moment over HD-DVD is more capacity per disc... but HD-DVD is cheaper and easier to manafacture per disc anyway.
