So what did you all think about the way the station came out? I thought it looked fantastic. Almost like the ships they built but also a little different too. I can't wait to see more of it used

Love it. The entire look of it, everything. I really hope it sticks around awhile before inevitabley being blown up/taken over by the bad guys. :P

I loved it, the outer look very human, the inner look, like an upgraded SGC which is great. I will like to see the pegasus gate with the ramp going up into it, like the SGC gate and to see if both gates have Iris', rightfully they should.

I loved it! I was afraid that they'd just use a revised Earth ship set, but it was great. That main gateroom was fabulous (the little was saw of it!).

Does anyone have any screencaps of it? The main gateroom, anyway?

There are some in another thread- might have been in the "Midway" pre air discussion thread? Can't remember for sure.

Overall, from what we saw of it, I was very impressed with the look of it. I definitely hope we see a lot more of it.

I really liked it, too. It has great story potential.

the gateroom was too cgi for my liking, i was hoping for something a little more realistic. it just didnt look right to me, lots of wasted space for a space station too, there are just a few small rooms off the sides, the whole station is pretty much hollow.

Well, technically it's just for traffic between the MW and Pegasus and not much else, right?

surely they would want it to be a bit more efficient, why do they need all that space for that. plus what happens in the event of an emergency, nothing between the too gates for security? no recreational facilities if travelers are made to stay for extended periods? whats the point of making a station that size, and just having a overly large concourse with small maintenance bays?

sorry, thats my thoughts

Perhaps it was all the SGC/IOA could afford at the moment, perhaps they plan on adding on to it at a later date. I thought it looked awesome, though part of me was hoping that they would design it in such a way that they could cloak it, even if it was using a cloak like the one from an Al'kesh.

Well, if I was flying a puddle jumper, I'd like a little extra room, just in case, plus, a gateroom that size has enough space for Puddle Jumper to land if they need to make a stop (or perhaps there's a bay off to the side? I didn't notice.)- or turn around if they need to go back, but chances of them actually having to stick around at the station are slim. In most cases you would just turn around and go back home if you can't proceed. If you have to stay on the station due to some emergency, recreational facilities probably won't be the first thing on your mind. ;)

Edit: and don't apologize for your thoughts! you said nothing rude, so there's no reason to apologize! ;)

Of course! The PJs. I also wondered why there was so much empty space. :o

I'm really looking forwards to seeing more of the station this year, particularly in Midway...the station looks great, and there's alot of potential in it. I do believe it could effectively replace the SGC(*tear) as the central node for human exploration, as one would be able to connect to Midway station from any Stargate in either galaxy.
I also like how both gates have irises. Smart move!

I could have sworn one of the crew was quoted as saying, 'Don't get attached to it' regarding the Midway station. I cannot remember where I heard that though, hopefully in a bad dream because I think it's brilliant.

Where did you see irises?? I missed them.

The TARDIS
September 30th, 2007, 05:45 PM
The Milky-Way Gate's icon was shown with a closed iris, while when the Pegasus Gate activated, the icon showed a shield much like the one on the Atlantis Gate...
But it could just be a false extrapolation from the icons shown...we'll find out in Midway...
...where we'll be seeing some Jaffa action for the first time on Atlantis. It's gonna be a great episode!

Sicktem

Odd - When Sam is first floating around you can see both gates and there isn't an iris on either. When we see the icons on the screen, it's only a few moments later.

Also, the area that you saw within the Atlantis icon was meant to represent an incoming wormhole, not a shield. You can very briefly see the Atlantis gate icon before the wormhole comes in and it's clear with a little icon in the middle. When the gate dials in, a mist like substance appears from the middle and expands outward. It looks far more like a wormhole than a shield and it's far more likely.

Ok, so that now leaves us with a question, does the Pegasus gate contain a shield and does the Milky Way Gate contain an Iris??

extra space and rooms are for customs!

"do you have an intergalactic export licence for that irratis bug sir?"

Sicktem

No, the Pegasus gate does not contain a shield. Atlantis is the only gate we've encounted in that galaxy with such technology. Had they found an Ancient outpost important enough to have a shield on the gate, we would've seen it in an episode. It is, however, possible that the Milky Way gate had an Iris. They usually don't close the Iris until a wormhole has been activated so when we saw it, it was perfectly normal for us not to see an Iris on the gate. I find it odd, however, that the computer icon would have what resembled an iris in the middle of the Stargate if it wasn't closed. It should've been clear like the Atlantis gate icon, then only when dialed in the misty wormhole image appear in the middle, and then the lines for the Iris should've appeared on top of that when someone manually closed it.

I really really hated it.

but then, I hate the 304 set too so it's not really surprising.
I can't stand all these exposed wiring and parts hanging around.
I guess I had my expectations too high because of the system lords station, that one was pretty sweet.

heh, they always manage to tangle up my ankles. I sure hope midway has theirs more.....organized. I'd hate to be Doctor Lee or Sam floating around in there weightless to get caught up in wires. ;)

I actually didn't even notice any exposed wires watching the ep, but then I wasn't looking for them.

How about the Pegasus Replicators, they are emulated as the Ancients so wouldn’t their gate have a shield too???

I hope so!! It's such a cool idea, and it'd be nice to have another regular location other than Atlantis and the Earth ships.

I thought it obvious that I was refering to gates that we have access to, but perhaps I should've phrased it differently. Anyway, it goes without saying that the replicators would of course have the technology to put one on a gate if they wanted to.

I guess it depends on a few things. If it gets destroyed in Midway how did the Wraith find it? A spy perhaps? If so we'd need to figure out who before we rebuild it.

I loved it! It kinda reminded me of the gateroom we witnessed in Stargate Infinity (the cartoon spin-off.)
Let's see some invasions of the Space station, and have some major gate activities too...That'd be real exciting.
