I finally figured out who Kensei reminds me of: Joxer the Mighty! I think it's just the helmet; it makes me grin every time I see him wearing it. ;)

Another slow burn ep. I know a lot of people are cranky about the slow pace, but I think the lead up to the finale has simply spoiled the audience: they expect everything to be BANG! POW! ZOWIE! and they forget that there were a lot of eps where not much seemed to be happening. I'm sure the payoff will be worth the wait.

I'm a bit surprised by Sylar. I was sure that he was going to "kill" his keeper only to find out that it was another projection- kinda like the trick she pulled on Micah when he tried to escape. I also wonder if he really does have to "start over" or if his powers are being kept in check artificially.

Peter's storyline now officially pisses me off. It's that whole stupid thing from Lost all over again: Kate wanted to tell Jack what she'd done and he said no and they kept nagging us about it but we never found out until a season later or something. Now it's gonna be that damn box. Stupid Peter. Never liked him anyway. I was hoping the haircut had improved him a bit, but no, he's the same old wussy dumbass he was in S1. *sigh*

So! Nichelle Nichols! Can't wait to see more of her story. :D

And was I wrong or did the shadowy figure in the Mendez painting look a bit like Claire's creepy flyboy?

Very good episode IMO. It was great to see Sylar finally back. Looks like he's got some work to do (getting his powers back). As for why he can't use them, I definitely think they're being blocked by someone or something.

I think Sylar still is in an illusion and we just haven't gotten the reveal yet. Seriously - would Candice, knowing full well who Sylar is and what he can do, leave herself so open, especially considering that someone's more than likely looking out for the two of them? I don't buy that she's dead or that Sylar's now stuck by himself in the middle of some rain forest.

West is lame and entirely forgettable. I wonder if, when she was on the beach with him, Claire was thinking Jeez, my real dad can fly too... Will this start getting awkward? I hope he stops showing up so we actually CAN forget about him. The only interesting part came at the end, when we find out that he has those scars. I think he totally is the shadowy guy in Isaac's painting, and I lament that Noah's going to die. Maybe not yet, but he will. :(

Peter's lame, too.

Preview spoilers:
I'm excited to see Nathan again, AND without the beard! That's just so much better.

I really like the sound of that. The TV previews did say things wouldn't be what they seem.

I saw that Candice killing a mile away. So like someone said, it could be an illusion too.

Good episode. I'm still wondering if that blond in the picture is Claire or Nikki. Nikki has to do something for the company so I wonder if they'll want her to kill HRG.

and interesting twist with Claire's new boyfrield and her dad abducting him.

I like where Peter is going. I'm not sold on the reluctance to open the box ... but he's quite kickass, and it's a nice way to force him to rediscover his powers.

Candace ... is she really that stupid? Assuming she's still working for the Company, I don't see any way they'd put her in a room with him. Sylar does as Sylar does. But she seemed legitimately surprised at the end that he didn't go head-over-heals for her wonderful Team Sylar idea. "C'mon, Sylar! We'll be the next great Odd Couple! Da do - da do - da do ..."

I'm not sure if something is truly dampening his powers (though he still seems to have his own innate ability, or at least thinks that he does), or if she's still in a virtual reality. If I had to bet after this episode, I'd say the latter. Based on "Five Years Gone," Sylar getting Candace's power so easily is a big red herring.

Hate Claire's stalker boyfriend. So far he's a self-centered, needy pain in the mikta, and there's utterly nothing redeeming about him.

West/Claire is all kinds of ew. He stalks her, acts like a jerk to her at school, kisses her when she's mad at him, and she forgives him without any further discussion because he takes her flying? Um...no.

I'd like to see West meet up with a plane engine, but the HRG painting appeared to have him in it. So, more West on the horizon. Oh, goodie.

All in all, I find myself not as interested in many of the storylines this season. Wonder twins in Mexico? Eh. Peter in Ireland? Eh. Hiro in Japan? Eh. (I prefer Hiro when he's paired with Ando) The only storylines I like right now are Mohinder/Matt/Molly, Sylar, and the mystery of the paintings/parent killer.

Two Trek cameos this ep, heh. :D

Yup. And I went, "HA! And THAT's why fans still refer to him as HRG!" :P It was probably around here that I saw someone complaining about people still referring to him as HRG when we know his name. So there. ;)

Oohhhh, gotcha! Wow, I utterly failed to recognize him. Of course, I only saw a few eps of Enterprise, so that didn't help either. :P

Meanwhile I realized that the Evil Company Man isn't who I thought he was. Or rather, he's exactly who I thought he was (the guy from Dweebs), but he isn't Ecklie from CSI. All these years I always assumed Ecklie was the guy from Dweebs. Huh. He was in CSI Miami, though.

And speaking of Miami, how realistic is Peter's girlfriend's accent? It reminds me heavily of Fianoa's on Burn Notice. I keep wanting her to say "Moy-ami."

I'm with you 100% on it still being an illusion - and I bet his powers work but she's making it seem like they don't to keep him in check.

Do we think she is still with the "Company" or if there is yet another organization we have to worry about??

That whole thing with Peter and his Irish chickadee is getting on my nerves. Leave the box alone?? Like hell! It looks like she has a power of her own and I wonder what it is. Her arm glowed making me wonder if she destroyed or altered the boxes contents somehow.

As for West and Claire no no no no! i really don't like this guy. He gives me the creeps. I was waiting for her to say...hey my dad can do this. I knew she wouldn't but it worked in my head.

I want to believe Sylar is still in an illusion but the fact that Candace's body reverted to her pudgy self seems to suggest it may be real.

Wow pretty much the same observations as you guys, Peter was all Darth Vaderey, and why the hell not open the box? Idiot.
Claire is kissing the guy she hated like ten minutes ago, WTF? Are teenage girls minds so easily changed? Maybe West (stupid name by the way) has some kind of seduction power in addition to flying. Of course lots of women love guys who treat them like crap.
Candace, stupid, stupid, he's a freaking serial killer moron. Unless of course he's still in an illusion which would be brilliant because it's what I'd do. So D.L.'s dead, oh well.
If I were HRG I'd be getting some contacts very soon. All we know is that some guy with glasses is going to die, it might not be Noah, I hope it's not. Last season we thought Isaacs painting showed Claire brainless, but it was actually that other Cheerleader.
Loved Hiro leaving messages for Ando in the sword.
Favorite line of the whole episode, "How angry are they?"

I'm still pissed about all the cellphone use, there not secure means of communication. I thought they planted a bug on Mohinder, when the company guy patted his shoulder.

Hate West, the Season 1 kid was loads better. Hope he the one syler got his flying powers from in 5 years later and Nathan is alive but stuck somewhere else.

Syler is stuck in an illusion, They made his wounds disappear, but he should still be in loads of pain.

I think it was just showing the extent of his mutant healing factor. That even something relatively minor like a tatoo will be healed. I REALLY hope we don't get a split personality with Peter; I think that trope has been played out by now. But I do hope he looks in the box at some point, because the "Irish" gang is getting on my nerves. I've heard some bad fake accents in my time, but...gah. Just want to rip my own arm off every time CSI-guy opens his mouth.

So...did the stoner guy in the Mexican jail steal Claire's car? That happened so fast, I missed it.

I have a wild theory that will probably be disproven in the next episode but I like it so I want to voice it. :)

I think that West is the assassin killing off the Old Heroes. Here's why:
1. Hiro's dad and the assassin were knocked off the building, but they only found 1 body. If he flew away then there wouldn't be a second body.
2. The painting show HRG man dead, and Claire kissing (or being held by) a guy in dark shadows. I'm betting that's West and darkness in comics usually represents evil/bad so I'm guessing he's the killer of the HRG.
3. I think he's older than he appears/acts and works for the company. I find it way too convienent that he discribed the HRG so that Claire would recognize him. He's using her or playing with her, but either way, it's for the purpose of the company. I never did buy the whole "change our name and get new identity" bit, You can't hide from a bunch of superpowered rich people, they'd find you.

October 9th, 2007, 08:46 AM
Sigh, a really poor episode IMO.

Peter's storyline sucks so bad it's unbelievable. The accents are beyond terrible, and the "irish" details are all wrong. I'm not entirely sure but I don't think a private security guard would be armed with a gun. I hoped he would open the box, find his address and depart with haste. Darth Peter was silly. And what was with the "godsend" tattoo fading on his arm? Has he picked up Nikki's split personality as well as her strength power?

Sylar's return was decidedly underwhelming and all of his scenes were painfully predictable. As soon as the beach appeared I knew it was an illusion, which could only mean Candice, which meant he had to kill her later on. Did the original actress not want to come back and be killed off or something? Not convinced by the explanation of how Sylar survived.

Hiro's story was again predicatable, though with his decision to stay I wonder where they're going to take it. How AWESOME would it have been to see Kensei take on 90 swordsmen in a massive fight.

DL being dead is was nice to finally get out of the way. Nikki doing bad is old news, has the company not screwed her over enough yet? And how is Uhura related to Mica? We've met his grandmother before, and it wasn't her.

Suresh's scheme cannot be going unnoticed. The company probably has a Mendez painting somewhere with him and Bennet conspiring away. The company is not that stupid surely. If they had any sense they would have a phone tap and a bug in his house.

I missed the lack of Detective Parkman investigates (pretty impressive recovery from being turned into swiss cheese only four months ago. Amazing luck that he's suffered no complications and had time to train for and pass Detective School). That whole murder/generations storyline is a beacon of hope in this season.

West is a moron. I hope Bennet kicks his ass ASAP.

Maya and her brother...meh. I kind of hope the new big bad gets them before they make it to the States. Their scenes offered nothing new at all, except to show us the same thing they did last episode. Why was her brother all shocked that she'd "killed" them when he knew that he could cure them all moments later.

The final scene was great though, a nice twist, though I'm sad Bennet's going to die, he's a good character.

But man, ever since "Landslide" Heroes has really taken a nosedive.

Kind of a blah episode.

I too hate the Peter in Ireland story. Why are they keeping him there and making him part of a gang? It was so predictable that he wouldn't open the box when it was laid out there in front of him. He needs to waste all those losers with terrible accents and get back to New York asap.;)

Sylar acted as he always acts. He's a serial killer and nothing's going to change that now.

West = yuck!!! West + Claire = double yuck. I really hope that Noah doesn't die.:( He's one of my favorites.

I like your theory- and if that were to happen I think I would forgive
the introduction of West. Seriously. Claire? I thought you were smarter than that. But nooo.....apparently if a guy can fly you off to some private beach all is forgiven.

Love Hiro/Kensei/Ando's story. The little scrolls in the sword were a nice touch. Though one would think that someone would find them in the hundreds of years before Ando? But that's easily overlookable.

As for Peter's story, I half like it (don't like the new haircut much though :P), thought he should have opened the box and got on with it! I want Peter with his memories back in New York.

Found I didn't care much about DL being gone. Fine by me. Not overly thrilled to see Niki back, was glad to see Micah (and Nichelle Nicols!) still love the kid.

I REALLY don't want HRG to die. Looks like it's going that way though. And I love the whole paintings/generations story.

As an Irish person (born and bred, I'm typing this in Ireland now) I hate the Irish accents on Heroes, they sound nothing like Irish accents (especially Cork accents)

The only one with a half way credible Irish accent is the sister and her accent is from Northern Ireland (other end of the country from Cork). But even her accent is dodgy (bad), it sounds like what American people think Irish people sound like.

I liked seeing Sylar back too and I especially liked that he was still the [email protected] from before. He didn't have this whole-omg I've done bad things going on, let me repent. He was still - I want Braaiins POWERS! I want my powers back!! Frak you, Candince!

Oh and how thought the parallel of Sylar and Peter both saying the power out loud ("Lightning!" and "Japan!") was both amusing and just showed how similar they are in some ways. My brother put out the idea of, what if Peter picked up some of Sylar, somehow... Interesting....

I think Sylar still is in an illusion and we just haven't gotten the reveal yet. ITA! I'm so waiting for Candice to walk back in all smirky and say "Can't get rid me that easily..." But Sylar just was awesomely evil as per usual.

Again ita! There is already enough subtext with his emoness and early Peter and with the flying like Nathan, and well, I just don't like him. They'd have to make him the killer of Daddy Nakamura or something to make him more interesting for me.

And Claire, really? Though that exchange at the end w/ HRG rocked my world.

An OK episode I guess. Not a big fan of the Peter in Ireland storyline anymore, the accents I agree are pretty bad, and the whole box thing was very predictable. Don't really like West and I found it very strange that Claire never even asks why he's stalking her (unless I missed that part). The flying bit at the end was a little cheesy too.

On the upside, the whole HRG getting shot thing definitely sounds interesting! Was that Claire and someone else in the background? I didn't get a good look.

Probably in the minority here but I didn't mind the episode... except for the Peter in Ireland arc... Seems rather contrived to me and unnecessarily dragged out so that Peter can play house with the Irish chick.

Other than, I'm looking forward to seeing where this is all going.

Also, I agree with whoever it is that said that Peter had a "Sylar moment" for a second. I thought he did (he had the really badass look too when he was throttling the traitor).. afterall he was using Sylar's telekinesis.

(I prefer Hiro when he's paired with Ando) The only storylines I like right now are Mohinder/Matt/Molly, Sylar, and the mystery of the paintings/parent killer.

Two Trek cameos this ep, heh. :D

I agree with everything but Hiro storyline, it's the only one that keeps me not bored. So far this season has been disappointing.

Wes was cute in the beginning with the "are you an alien or a robot" but then he got creepy and I just wanted him to die. If Wes kills Mr. Bennet I will not be happy. :S

Speaking of bad accents... my Japanese friend was saying the other day that she thought Hiro had a bad Japanese accent. According to her, he speaks like a gaijin.

I suppose we'll have to put up with them seeing that this show at least attempts to be vaguely international. I suppose it never occurs to them that they should hire native speakers. ;) Sort of me having to put up with that dreadful Australian accent on Eureka... :P

So far, I really like how things are playing out this season. Just like last season, things are starting to build a bit. Probably to something very big. I really look forward to the next episode.

I'm with you buddy... While I have a few niggles with a couple of the smaller arcs, I think the big picture is still fairly sound. I'll reserve my judgment till the end of the season.

Oh, another thing... Sylar appears to be LOST... ;)

what in the name of jiminy cricket is going on! im all for suspenseful build up but this week just took the pish.
Hiro and Peter's stories could have taken significant and important steps forward this episode and guess what, everything just stays the same.
and thats the way we like it in tv land, everything must stay the same for as long as possible. great drama!

Sylar's return was a bit of a damp squib but maybe next week he'll eat Desmonds brains and get the power to see the future, wait.... oh ive gone wrong there somewhere.

west (who names a kid west honestly) is as annoying as ever and if he doesnt turn out to be a government ninja flying assassin and does kill Noah Bennett he might turn out to be the most hated character in a sci fi tv series since wesley crushinator.

not a great start, just dragging things out does not equal a well thought out storyline, it equals lazy writing but it'll pick up im sure like last season, it's just why not make the first few episodes interesting? the four months later thing just feels like such a ploy to fill episodes until mid season.

crazy idea i know but how about we have a story!

I am glad I am not the only one who is bored by the Heroes' storyline to date. Early in the thread someone said that season one did not have a lot of early suspense. I respectfully disagree. I started to watch Heroes via torrents and ended up watching the first series in 5 days. I watched the last 7 or 8 episodes in a row and I would have watched the entire series straight if I did not have to wake up in the morning. IMO, it is one of the greatest single seasons of any show I've ever seen.

This season is being pulled down by just a lack of creativity. Is there even a point to the twins? If so they should just get into the US already. Their entire trek for the US is taking entirely too long and their whole power set-up is boring to watch.

As everyone has said the Irish accents are horrible. The girl at least has a credible accent and I also think she is attractive so I give her a pass. I was hoping Peter would open the box but then it took the whole I like you and what if I don't like whats in the box routine.

Sylar's screen time was fun until he killed Candace. Not only was it predictable but he did not even cut her head in the same fashion as in previous episodes. Typically he cuts the skull off at the top and performs whatever he needs to do to get the powers. In this case he went from the base of the skull. Someone I'd like to know how he had the strength to knock her out and what could he have used to cut her through her skull. The only explanation to me is that it is still an illusion. If it isn't then thats just piss poor writing.

O and the tattoo...how lame can you get?

I won't even touch the Claire West relationship. We all know that they were getting her together with some guy....but West?

Wow, what else can I complain about? Commercials anyone? Or how about Mohinder playing spy while using cell phones and then seeing Molly. How inept can you get? Grr.... so many issues. Maybe I could not see this in the first season because I watched them at such a quick pace.

Interesting that Heroes are showing up with the same powers. Claire + Takezo Kensei, as well as Nathan + that other flying kid.

Also unclear what happened with Sylar. Did her kill her, or was it all another illusion.

Was a good ep.

Here are my oppinions and the theories Im liking at the moment:

Sylar has contracted the virus and it has caused him to lose his powers. The extra vial that Mohinder got from the company man contained Sylers blood. Candice knew that Syler had lost all of his powers and therefore thought that she could handle him easily since he wasnt dangerous anymore. She obviously over looked the fact that if you de-power a pychotic super villian then your still left with a pychotic villian . Candice is therefore most likely dead IMO.

Kenzie (english guy in the japan story) is most likely the guy who killed Hiros father. It makes sense since he would almost certainly have been the one or one of the main people who created the original company for the good of mankind. Hes now figured out that the rest of the group has gone bad and has decided to eliminate them.

West is propably a company mole, if not then Id be really surprised. But then again youd think a company agent would be more competent and capable then looking through windows... That strikes me more as the act of a stalker.

Peter is an incredibly strong, dangerous individual and if left with all his powers fully functional would act as a bit of an deus ex machina since he could handle just about anyone with ease. My guess is that the writers are going to wait quite awhile yet to bring him up to his full potential again.

The mexican girls black eye power is the only thing that can kill a person with the regen power and thus it is she who will kill Kenzie at the end of the season. Personally once she deliberatly used her power she became a very unsympathetic character to me and quite frankly I would support anyone who tried to kill her since she is to dangerous to be allowed to walk around.

Having rapid cellular regeneration means you can't die from disease. :P So Maya may not be the killing blow.

I totally forgot about the possibility that Sylar could have the disease. if he does, then he just killed Candace, and without the cure, he won't be able to glean her ability. He'll merely have a fat. smelly whino corpse. Good riddance.

Poo on West to. I hate Creepy Stalker.

The flying guy is working for the company... in my opinion they found out where the bennett's were living and sent the flying guy to woo Claire to get at Noah.

The flying guy teaches Claire to "rebel" because she's different when in reality he is filling her with hate against Noah, she will either be the one who pulls the trigger and kills Noah or she'll come to her senses in the last second.

Oh god I hope Claire doesn't kill HRG. Or anyone.

West will do it, and Claire will have to opportunity to kill him, but she won't. Then someone else will have to get him out of the picture so he won't have to annoy us anymore in the next story arc. :P

What a disappointing episode! Who the hell wrote this? It's hideous!! I haven't seen this kind of awkward, forced story-telling for ages. Similarly frustrating is that Claire, Hiro, and Peter exhibit some disturbing and out of character scenes that damage some golden moments we've experienced thus far.

For the most part the episode lacks coherent pacing, with some pitiful scene transitions, likely due to poor editing. And finally, relatively nothing fresh happens in terms of the plot.

I don't know how drunk, tired, or spazzed-out the production team was when making this installment of Heroes, but if they don't snap out of it, more offerings like "Kindred" will damage the development of this show.

Muchly disturbing indeed..

So we've just seen this episode in Australia.

So far, the build up is what would be expected.

My biggest gripe is the Peter sotry line. We had a season of him learning how to use his powers and being freaked out at being able to have multiple powers. Do we really need to have another season of him learning to use his powers and being freaked out at having multiple powers?

The story of the brother and sister tar from the eyes is getting dull rapidly. Move on, make something happen or have them disappear. The running from the police and being constantly scared is .. well we get the point, move on with it now.

Niki. So how many times can she be abused by "the company". Come on, the woman took part in the final showdown with Sylar. Suddenly she's a whimpering mother again who is afraid of her own shadow (or reflection)? This story like Peter's is basically a rehash of last season.

Stalker boy and Claire. All I can say there is wow. So stalking and being a peeping tom is OK provided you can fly the objection of your obsession off to the beach? How easily a girl can go from scared and feeling belittled to kissy kissy, all in one fell swoop - literally!

I absolutely agree- Claire has been one of my favourite characters on the show since the beginning, and this is just.....she's a smart character, but this compromises that, horribly. :(

OK...

1. Like the messages in the sword, not sure why Hiro's still hanging about in 1671!

2. Don't have an issue with the Peter storyline, thinking about it his decision to stay in Ireland for the time being sort of makes sense in a Bourne identity way.

3. Sylar, stuck without powers. Having killed Candice. Could be interesting.

4. Not freaked out by West yet. The Noah connection could be freaky though

S2's not hit awesome yet but still solid.

I'm a bit surprised by Sylar. I was sure that he was going to "kill" his keeper only to find out that it was another projection- kinda like the trick she pulled on Micah when he tried to escape. I also wonder if he really does have to "start over" or if his powers are being kept in check artificially.

they are being kept in check artifically cause of the disease he was given by the company before leaving him to rot down there.. Don't really know why though

Very good episode IMO. It was great to see Sylar finally back. Looks like he's got some work to do (getting his powers back). As for why he can't use them, I definitely think they're being blocked by someone or something.

After watching quinto play Spock in the rebooted Star trek, i am LOVING him as Sylar. he is really doing the villian role justice.
As for his powers, i love that you hear that 'clock ticking' in the backround when he tried to kick them in..

I kind of saw that part about her Dad being the abductor coming the moment I saw those marks on his neck.

Well we did know from last season when Matt was also taken and 'marked' that the company did that to quite a few powered individuals.. So it imo was only a matter of time before they came face to face (so to speak) with one of their former 'targets'.

Two Trek cameos this ep, heh. :D

It's actually three if you count the guy from Enterprise in the Irish crowd as the third.

Loved Hiro leaving messages for Ando in the sword.

Which makes me wonder. Was Hiro 'fated' to have gone back in time, to leave those messages in the sword, knowing he would GAIN the sword later (in season 1 when he stole it)..

Oh yeah, almost forgot the thing about Darth Peter. Given the way his tattoo reacted and then disappeared, is it safe to assume that Peter now has a Dark Passenger just like Niki does? Seemed pretty blatant to me, but I've been wrong before. ;)

I disagree. I never remember seeing something like that happen with Niki.. BUT i liked that the tatoo went to the symbol for the heroes..

IIRC it was mentioned he got them from Nathan, when he killed him and took on his role as the president.

As for west, i am actually ok with him. Unlike most of you it seems.

I'm not entirely sure but I don't think a private security guard would be armed with a gun.

Being i work with one private security company and worked for a 2nd last year, yes we CAN be armed..

DL being dead is was nice to finally get out of the way. Nikki doing bad is old news, has the company not screwed her over enough yet? And how is Uhura related to Mica? We've met his grandmother before, and it wasn't her.

From what i gather, she is DL"s mother.. So mom in law to Niki and grandma in law to Mika. BUT i am really starting to hate his 'cousin'.

The final scene was great though, a nice twist, though I'm sad Bennet's going to die, he's a good character.

We have seen Hiro and other's prevent those predictions coming true before. Afterall, Manhattan didn't go boom which was one of the bigger predictions that Issac made..

DOH! Of course lol. I'm sure Linderman at the very least would have taken a peak! Massive error there.

The only thing i can think of is maybe linderman didn't realize it was hollow??
