Sounds pretty cool, but Amazon must be down or something 'cause I'm getting an error from them when I'm trying to access it.

So this is Stargate's attempt at making books similar to Star Trek manuals? I've have to stop at my local bookstore and preorder it.
Dark Helmet: So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
Dark Helmet: No, it's not what you think. It's much, much worse!

Col. Sandurz: Prepare for light speed.
Dark Helmet: No, no, light speed is too slow.
Col. Sandurz: Light speed too slow?
Dark Helmet: Yes, we'll have to go right to...Ludicrous speed!
Col. Sandurz:Ludicrous speed! Sir, we've never gone that fast before. I don't think the ship can take it.
Dark Helmet: What's the matter, Colonel Sandurz...CHICKEN?!

What about this one then? Has anyone heard anything about this? Morjana perhaps?

Wow, a book, eh? That's kinda cool. Would order it, but the lack of funds is kinda holding me back. You guys will have to let us all know how it is, and if it is worth it. Judging by that list of contributors, though, it should be a good read!

Hey, David Gerrold of "Tribbles" fame? I wonder what connection he has with "Stargate". Maybe he's a fan.

Hopefully from the release of the SG-1 video game, MGM will turn over a new leaf.
I wonder how long it will take MGM to decide if they want to do an Atlantis video game?

and aaargh ... while I'm impressed with the variety of pros they have writing chapters ... hello ONLY one fan got to do input and none of those sf authors - while all being excellent writers - to my knowledge - have degrees in arcaheology or classics tho jim butcher at least knows some latin !!!

Couldnt they have gotten at one fan or pro with a classics or archaeology background to do an article?

and before anyone accuses me of sour grapes

I know they would have chosen a US and Brit fan or pro over a lowly Aussie but really couldnt they have found one archaeologist who'll admit to be a fan ? Just one archaeo-pro?

I dont recognise any of those names!

                    Visit Http://www.geocities.com/scholara/index.html

I would have loved to have been invited to do input to this project and I dont even find out about it until it's about to come out!

Once upon a time I dreamed of finally being in a position where people asked me to work for them ... of maybe being a PAID consultant for US or Canada based Sf shows since at the moment there's ZERO sf TV production in Sydney
instead with VERY limited resources - I may finally get a scanner this year - finally - I struggle unpaid to promote the Classics via my web site and what do I get for years for work ... sheesh maybe I should just stick to doing Satire on Sassy Gate - at least that amuses a few of my friends

Definitely saddened but so not surprised

OK, I checked your site out. It looks useful. I'll go there the next time I have to check my Egypt facts.

Thank You - any PR and feedback however minor is appreciated !

I set up a guest book on the site (not on Real Egypt yet) but no one's bothered to fill it in though ocassionally some folk do bother to email!

Would people prefer guestbooks or email links as a method of feedback?

Getting back to the people does anyone know which of those authors cited has any Egyptology Arcaheology or Historical Linguistics qualifications?

I recognize about two thirds of the names on that list but none of them as ancient culture specialists and why Richard Arnold I dont know unless he's writing an article of Trek compared to Gate?

I'll check my usual resources...at the moment, none of these ring a bell.
On another note: Neith4, I'm also a linguist (Egyptology is "only" my second subject) specialised on historical linguistics, my PhD thesis (still being written... ) is on the special language that Egyptology developped and uses...and YOU are among the few people who actually used the IPA symbols for transcribing hieroglyphs - consider yourself hugged! I seem to fight an endless battle for the use of IPA symbols in Egyptology....if you need the IPA symbols as a computer font, send me a private message, I can email them to you.
