Well this was my friend Kyles idea but basically he was asking

In a lightsaber dual why just no switch off your light saber for a second and then it will pasd through the other saber and into the person at which time it would be reactivated and would kill the sith/jedi

Normally I dismiss his crazy ideas but this seems viable....ish

Because then you wouldn't get the cool lightsaber on lightsaber sound.

One main reason to scare anyone would be this:

You are duelling, this means you are swinging to hit them & them swinging to hit you. They swing it towards your or part of your body, you turn it off & the speed they are going along with the fact that you need to restart your lightsaber up all over again will allow them to hit you way before you get to them.

You'd have to be crazy or suicidal to use such an unorthadox tactic because chances are you'll always be on the wrong side of the blade. If you could somehow know the saw they were gonna strike before they did, then you could dodge it & then hit them. However if you already knew that, then there would be no need to turn off the blade at all.

good point, although jedi can generally sense their opponents moves beforehand, although if you weere a jedi battling a jedi that would kind of cancel things out

there is a reason they dont do that in every fight. thefights wouldn last long enough.

but they did rely on that a lot, thats why the vong started off with such an advantage

yea but still what would you prefer to watch a fight scene that is about 5 minutes long or about 10 seconds

point well made, but against each other it might cancel out making it just as good of a battle they cant really see the future without meditation( or dreams) so it would kinda pan out like a chess match

true. but most of the best fight scenes i have seen do not have weapons. they are just about pure wit andout smarting your enemy

which is how it should be, if it was always with weapons and not much thought it would get repititive and tired really fast
