MG = Martin Gero

And no, that isn't the actual episode title. :p

I just thought I'd start this because, despite it being nameless, JM has began dropping hints on it, so that it warrents its own thread:

Marty G. has taken his birthday festivities on the road - Vegas to be precise, where he reports he is 15 pages into his next script which still has no title, but does have Rodney driving Carter and Keller absolutely crazy.

http://josephmallozzi.blogspot.com/2007/07/july-12-2007.html

Also, some details about this was mentioned during the press tour. If someone can dig it out from this vid:

http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/06/29/stargate-atlantis-panel-at-sci-fis-digital-press-tour-part-one/

...then all the better.

Haha this sounds like a fun episode.

Yea I just watched the interviews again, they mention this script but it's nothing we don't already know. Just that it's gonna be a crazy McKay-Carter-Keller episode.

JM made reference in his latest blog entry to:

"Marty G. [...] taking a break from that troubled trio script to tackle" the script for the Joe F pitched idea.

I guess we can assume that the "troubled trio script" refers then to this episode... sooooo... any thoughts? Troubled trio? McKay, Carter and Keller perhaps?

I can see why he'd be driving Carter crazy because he usually does but why Keller? Is Rodney sick?

Along with a picture of the mock-up for one of the episode's sets, apparently:

Not to me ;) I love Rodney ;)
I think he could be sick, maybe some "madness" or so. I am not sure if I should take the "crazy" so literally but it´s possible.
What I can 100% say that this is definitely McKay episode. Gero is the only one who can write for McKay in normal way, without making him a comic relief. He even doesn´t humiliate him, which is great imo.

Oops, looks like I misremembered. I'll have the answer to that question tomrrow, hopefully. Still, we get this today:

PG-15 writes: “...3. So, Martin Gero is doing "Harmony"? Wow, so he's writing his "Three's Company" episode, the JF-pitched story, AND Harmony? He's going to be busy.”

Answers: ...3. Martin was writing the Sheppard on Earth story but, having finished Trio (formerly Three’s Company), he will start on Harmony while Alan McCullough assumes writing duties on the JF-inspired eppy.

http://josephmallozzi.blogspot.com/2007/08/august-3-2007.html

EDIT: Oh, and a little clarification on that Sam's love life remark:

Anonymous #2 writes: “You already said that you weren't going to deal with Sam's love life on atlantis.”

Answer: That’s right. We will not be dealing with Sam’s love life on Atlantis. However, a passing mention of her personal life during a candid moment is another matter.

So, what's the order for the last four episodes now?

vaberella
August 3rd, 2007, 04:42 PM
^^ I'll take a stab at it and say Kindred I and II, then comes Trio and then Harmony? But the order in which the eps are written and filmed are not the same for when the way they will air on screen. So Harmony could show right before Midway, or Kindred II could be the seaon finale. Who knows...I think we have a few weeks to find out on that. Good question though, I would like to know.

Xicer
August 3rd, 2007, 04:48 PM
Last four. ;) We can estimate the other 16, and I'm pretty sure Harmony and Trio will come after Kindred. The last four episodes in the season I think are Harmony, Trio, the Shep-on-Earth story, and the season finale. The season finale obviously comes last, so really I'd like to know in which order the other three go in. :)

On the work front: shooting continues on the big team-up eppy, finished the polish on Harmony, almost finished my producer's cut of Kindred I as I await the completion of the Previously On sequence, an exhausted Martin completed his latest (and last) rewrite of Trio, read the first draft of Outcast, and watched the episode with the engagement scene (I have a feeling the fans will love it).

This is ancient news, folks. It's like when you drive past a car wreck, the cop says 'move along, move along.' There are a handful of fans who might think that, but the SDJ campaign was designed to bring Daniel back to the show, and nothing more, despite what one or few whacko fans (not on this thread that I've seen) seem to think ;)

Why isn´t whole David in that photo! Evil, evil Joe :D I noticed that Amanda/Sam doesn´t have P-90. Isn´t it weird? I mean, she is a soldier and sitting behind a table or not, I think she should have it. And what about Rodney? It seemed to me that he usually wears P-90 to missions in the latest episodes and from photos of S4 (by Joe) it looks that way, too.

Regulars to my blog will know that I am a relatively fearless person. With the exception of snakes, komodo dragons, massive script rewrites, and the cursed furry-skinned kiwi fruit, there isn’t much that scares me. Oh, yeah, heights. I really, really hate heights - so I guess that makes me acrophobic (which is either an irrational fear of heights or an irrational fear of acrobats although, come to think of it, in my case, both apply). Just the sight of someone I know stepping out onto a balcony is enough to make me nervous. So you can imagine my discomfort this past Thursday and Friday, as I watched Jewel and Amanda make like a couple of Cirque de Soleil vets to brave Stargate’s version of the high-wire. Jewel, who obviously has no problem with dizzying heights as evidenced by her choosing to do the Missing rope bridge sequence sans stunt double, was a veritable monkey up there - scampering up that ladder and along the crossbeams, showing off for the camera. Amanda, on the other hand who coincidentally shares my pronounced dislike for lofty elevations, demonstrated great courage in clambering up and executing her own maybe-not-death-but-certainly-serious-injury-defying walk. Both were harnessed and had director Martin Wood, and stunt coordinator Bam Bam standing by to walk them through it. I, of course, was on hand to spot, standing beneath them, arms outstretched, prepared to break their fall should the need arise. Fortunately, the need did no arise - not even when they tilted the set 20 degrees.

Susan the Turtle writes: “Does this mean your big trip to the great outdoors is at an end?”

Answer: Yup. Trio will take place on our standing set while Outcast will take me out and about again, but to heavily forested surroundings.

I thought AT and JS were filming their harness parts from Trio last week. Maybe DH's filming schedule is a little wacky, because he plays a heavy role in both episodes.

Amanda and Jewel were doing a harness test on Thursday afternoon and Friday. I don't know if they actually filmed anything or if they just blocked/choreographed their scenes and tested out the harnesses. They weren't in costume in the photos on Joe's blog.

So perhaps they didn't start actually filming the episode until today?

I wonder if David will get the honor of having to do harness work too. If he does, I hope Joe posts more pics. :P

.... ...and swung by set to see how our little (HUGE!) episode Trio is coming along. Unfortunately, I don’t have much in the way of pics on this one because: 1) The tilting set is often inaccessible and difficult to negotiate, 2) Stage 2 is dark but so full of atmosphere that any pictures taken with a flash come out looking fog-screened, 3) Stage 2 is dark and any pictures taken without a flash come out, well, dark. The report on this one: David, Amanda, and Jewel are having waaay too much fun. This one will hold the record for Most In Between Takes Laughing.

Better than any SG ep? Don't think so. It is barely better than the dragon movies on scifi. It was bland and very confusing.

See? I completely disagree ;) That´s why is it called discussion forum :D
Many SG1 and SGA episodes were terrible, Irresponsible and Irresestible is good example. The worst thing that could have been done. IMO is also "200" horrible, but I know that most people loved it so I won´t open this topic.
Dragon movies? Bleh. Poor Vincenzo Natali :D
This movie isn´t for everybody, but I liked it even before I knew that David is there. So I wasn´t influenced by his presence. I just liked it, it should have been confusing. ;) I like this style of movies. But the sequels destroyed the original idea I think.

Well, as I see it, this episode and the previous, Harmony, were also very physically hard. JM said that they used many stunts in Trio which says something. I am curious about this episode. But I am more looking forward to the Harmony because it´s about McKay and Sheppard. Here it looks at lots of Carter/McKay which I am really afraid of. Even when Martin Gero writes it, I am not sure if he can handle it.

Talks about A DOG'S BREAKFAST release this coming week, and

just wish I had more time to savor it! We're shooting the last three Stargate Atlantis episodes for Season Four and there's so much going on! The last episode is non-stop shocking revelation after shocking revelation, unfortunately for me I have to walk and talk you all through every one of them! The end of the season is always a crunch, and this one is proving to be a monster! I am in awe of Jewel Staite and Amanda Tapping. Not only are these two of the smartest, most beautiful and talented space hotties (spotties as they're dubbed), they are shameless clowns who have had me on the floor crying with laughter between (and during) every scene we shoot...this despite choking dust, shifting sets, bruises and fatigue on "Trio", one of the more gruelling shooting episodes we've had! Let's just say that dinner theatre will never be the same, as the spotties and I have been working on some musical dance numbers that are sure to kill our careers, the Stargate magic and sink the franchise! ;-)

I did find time to swing by set where the gals were cabled up and making like stage version Peter Pans. It’s nice to see that Amanda has seemingly conquered her fear of heights - at least for the duration of this episode. Maybe I CAN get her wrestle that alligator in the finale.

The Scanner: We should probably close on an obligatory Atlantis question—what’s in store for McKay in the fourth season?
Hewlett: I’ve got what is McKay’s dream episode in that I’m trapped with Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite in a cave. I’m in geek heaven because I’m stuck underground with the two female icons of sci-fi! I’m convinced the writers are out to make my life miserable. Whenever they get bored, I get stuck in a box! [Laughs] But really, McKay is a dream role. He’s the guy who says everything you want to say how dull the party is and how ugly the hostess looks. He’s one of those dream characters who comes along so rarely.

Very interesting. I wonder who will want to kill him first. Carter or Keller.

I hope that there won´t be any killing and that Rodney will be normal and OK in this episode. The last thing his character needs is making from him idiot not only before Carter, but even before Keller

I am not too excited about this episode. But Martin Gero writes it and he certainly knows how to write McKay and characters in general. So let´s hope he will make it at this episode, too.

Well, Carter, Keller and McKay has the potential of being either amazingly good or amanzingly terrible. But Gero has the track record to be able to make this awesome.

It can go either way but I have faith in Martin. I usually love the way Carter and Mckay are written so not worried.

News from Joe:

I strolled over to Stage 2 and caught Martin Wood finishing up one of the final scenes for Trio. As he yelled “Cut!”, a dirty and disheveled David and Jewel popped up and were immediately ushered out for a quickie shower, hair and make-up session. I wandered over to neighboring Stage 1 where the parallelogram and green screen had been set up for that climactic scene. The director yelled “Action” and the actor lifted off, arms and legs scrambling as his body was buffeted by the high winds.

Ohhh, I'm not so sure. I think Rodney is a good option here too. Everyone I think may be dismissing Rodney because of Katie, but that may not last all season. She does talk about flirting with more than one person remember?

The writers also provided an opportunity for a romantic moment between Keller and one of the show's regulars. "I've had a yummy moment with someone yummy ... but not necessarily a guest star!" Staite teased. "She actually has a couple [of romantic interests]. She's a bit of a flirt! I don't know where that came from. I always play these shameless flirts. I don't know why that is. It has nothing to do with me.

There was also some mention in a previous article about her bonding with Rodney. That doesn't PROVE it's Rodney of course, but I don't think he should be counted out.

EDIT: Ah, here it is....from the recent SyFy Portal article (http://www.syfyportal.com/news424208.html).

Staite has a number of scenes in the upcoming fourth season with Amanda Tapping, who joins the show after 10 years on "Stargate SG-1" as well as David Hewlett's character of Rodney McKay, but it's series star Joe Flanigan she says she wants more time with.

"I hardly get any scenes with Joe," Staite said. Keller "and Carter have bonded because they are both new. She's bonded with McKay mostly because she likes to tease him and flirt with him and make him feel uncomfortable, and she's bonded with Ronon (Jason Momoa) a little bit."

Personally, if I HAD to pick a ship for Keller, I'd go with Lorne. :D But I'm still thinking about Rodney/Keller.....not sure what to think about that yet. I'm not sure I have a preferance either way actually.

With both cast members kneading their way into their roles on Atlantis, there is bound to be one episode where things start to click. "Quarantine," says Tapping. Staite agrees. "[It] brings everyone together even though we spend the entire episode separated," explains Tapping. "Yeah," says Staite, "I think Quarantine put the characters in a position where they absolutely have no choice but to bond." Tapping continues, "At the end there’s a realization that we almost lost Atlantis and…there’s a renewed sort of vigor in terms of protecting it." Staite reflects, "Right, but I think for me, Trio, the one that we just shot, was a turning point for Keller, especially since she was with Carter who she really respects, and she was with McKay who she really respects, as well, and kind of got to prove herself to the both of them."

"Yeah, we just finished shooting that and it was so much fun," says Tapping. "It was really hard work, but it was really, really fun. I didn’t expect it to be that fun. We did a lot of laughing," bounces Staite, "That blooper reel is going to be two hours long." What might appear on that blooper reel you ask? "Well on the last episode Jewel and David and I were stuck in a hideous set covered in dirt, and on angle, in this little metal box, and so we decided to come up with a new show," Tapping laughs. "It’s called Stargate Titanic: the Musical. And it’s specifically for small town dinner theater, and we just started writing and singing and dancing about the set. I hope some of it appeared on camera because it was really quite hilarious." "David singing a song about the wraith... the wraith... they’re a very bad race. It sounds really silly, but it got us through the day. I think most of the blooper reels will be us cracking each other up. Everyone on the cast has a really good sense of humor, so generally it’s just people making each other laugh. And of course, The Stargate Titanic: the Musical," she giggles. With the first episode of the season making its way to the tele Friday night, fans are certainly in for a treat as these new character additions bring a fabulous chemistry to the series. Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite—what a wonderful duo!

David Hewlett Spills Stargate Secrets

TVGuide.com: What's the relationship between McKay and Staite's Dr. Keller?
Hewlett: McKay's never been terribly good with women. So when Keller comes in, she's beautiful, she's very smart and she's very quickly annoyed with McKay, because he's her patient. He's the guy at the party who says, "Does this look infected to you?"

TVGuide.com: No romance with the new girl?
Hewlett: There's definitely something romantic happening with Keller... but not with McKay. McKay's season, from a romantic standpoint, is an absolute disaster. There are a few episodes that pretty well kill most dreams of McKay settling down happily. Dr. Katie Brown, whom he dated, is back, which leads to a sad episode.

They could be the scenes that needed to be picked up b/c the pics have DH and JS in them and MW is the director. If they are from "Trio," I wonder where AT is.

Then again, they could be pics from the filming of the last episode. Does anyone know who is directing "The Last Man"? If it is MW, then they could be from either episode.

I went to double double check and yes Martin Wood is directing The Last Man so this means awesomeness coming!!! And fans wondering what the scene in the pictures is about!!

Back to the main topic, I'm so excited about Trio, I so want to watch it like... NOW. But will have to wait february for that, damn. From the few (well many) spoilers we got in the interviews and Joe's blog, McKay and Keller seems to be getting along quite well and teasing each other a lot, and there's Sam of course...

From Joe's blog: "To all of you Sam fans dying for a hint of what's going on with Carter's love life, you'll have to wait until 'Trio' for a not-so-subtle tip-off." *giggles again* I love the not-so-subtle tip-off .
My guess is ...

"... We will not be dealing with Sam's love life on Atlantis. However, a passing mention of her personal life during a candid moment is another matter."
... just teasing the Sam/Jack shippers with no actual real love life revelation.lol;)

I think McKay and Keller are very cute together. The most recent pics from JM's blog just highlight that. Too bad it seems Keller has her eye on someone else. They had some very nice moments working together in Adrift, so I'm looking forward to seeing them interact more in Trio. I hope they develop a nice, non-antagonistic friendship. Rodney could use a friend like that.

Update:

With all of the intense number-crunching going on today, it’s a wonder we found time to get anything done. Still, we did manage to squeeze in a viewing of Trio. Great, great episode. Unfortunately, the director’s cut was running long and certain things ended up not making the cut - the chiefest being Carter’s discussion about “that guy in Washington”. Nevertheless, the exchange will make the deleted footage compilation Ivon Bartok is in the process of putting together for the season four dvd release - or, perhaps, find its way into a future episode.

Well, I for one am highly ticked off at this little turn of events. TPTB set up the whole S/J thing and have failed to follow up on it for three years now. Besides the fact I am a bit of a romantic, it's a huge plot hole. Poor character development, which the franchise used to do so well. Ship is popular with the general viewing public, which may help explain why season 8 was the best season ever for the franchise. So I can't see why a twenty second clip that could have added a lot off buzz among the fans was cut. It makes no sense.

So, Carter, McKay and Keller all seem to fall through the ground (and the field they walk through looks supsiciously familiar). McKay spends at least one scene putting his foot in his mouth with carter, so I guess the writers haven't matured him enough to stop drooling over carter... sigh...

but this dialogue, when Carter/McKay/Keller are stuck down in the hole and two boys peer down just made me cringe, as McKay has regressed back, i swear, even before SG1!

McKay: Maybe if you show them your, uh… (hinting for her to flast her breasts)

Carter (affronted): Excuse me?

McKay: I was once a ten-year-old boy too. I know what gets their attention.

Carter: McKay.

McKay: Do you want to get out of here or not?

So, not sure if I'm going to like this episode or not although the falling down through the hole, though done a million times before, was funny.

So, not sure if I'm going to like this episode or not although the falling down through the hole, though done a million times before, was funny.

First of all, thanks for the transcript and screen caps. :)

After seeing Travelers last week, I'm having trouble seeing this as a "regression." I recall quite a few episodes from Season 1 and 2 where Rodney makes similar cringe-worthy comments about the attractive female guest characters. I guess I just don't see where this theory of "regression" is coming from. He's always been like this from the beginning (48 Hours) and similar comments and incidents have popped up quite frequently throughout the run of SGA. Others keep saying he has matured and grown up while on SGA. In some areas, I definitely think he has. He has learned to work with people and how to form and maintain strong friendships. He has also learned to trust people instead of always feeling that he can only rely on himself. He has also usually treated the two women he works closely with (Teyla and Weir) with the utmost respect. But in regards to his attitude towards women in general (esp. attractive ones), he has never shown much positive growth. How can he regress if he has never progressed?

It would be nice to see McKay grow up and cut out the crude comments about women. It would be nice if he would treat all the women the way he treats Teyla and Weir. But over the course of the series, there have only been glimpses that have shown his ability to change in regards to his attitude towards most women. And IMHO it would be quite out of character for him to suddenly change and become politically correct and be overly sensitive about what he says about women all the time. It's one of the flaws that make him an interesting character. But that's just the way I see it. I know a lot of other fans feel quite differently.

Answer: I’m not sure there were any whole deleted scenes or significant cuts in Trio that warranted a special feature appearance.

Just read the whole of this thread and i have to say this sounds like one hell of an episode. The McKay/Carter banter, if done right, is hilarious... and from what i've read it is.

Hopefully the above Mallozzi quote means that the Carter lovelife comment is back in, It'll be nice to finally have an answer to that question... for once.

yeah I feel the same way. this whole thing has been going on long enough, can't TBTB just finally deal with it? although IIRC JM mentioned they're planning on giving another hint or two in s5, so this ep will probably not be the end of it. oh well...

Some more stuff on those deleted scenes:

Majorsal writes: “what happened to the deleted scene where sam and keller were talking and sam mentioned a not-so-subtle hint about ‘that guy in washington’ (jack)? you said you’d either a- put it (deleted scene) in the s4 dvd package, or b- put the same sentiments in an s5 ep. or you’d do both maybe”

Answer: Martin chose the deleted scenes from his episodes. I’m not sure if this one was among them.

I'd love that as much as you but I'm not going to hold my breath that they decided not to cut it. This ep finished post prodction awhile ago and they told us it was cut then. Most likely it's not there. However if a scene like that is cut as much as I'd love a mention if it is still a great story no complaints here.

I think the Continuum change was suppose to be subtle. that wouldn't be subtle. The Continuum change probably has something to do with one of the goauld they've encountered in the past. maybe Baal's still alive or spmething to do with the Stargate. Here are sky tv's details for Trio:

Col Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) joins Dr McKay (David Hewlett) and Dr Keller (Jewel Staite) on a mission to convince the inhabitants of an off-world village, rocked by frequent tremors, to move to a more stable part of the continent. But en route to the village, McKay plunges into a sinkhole, falling 20 feet to the bottom of a large subterranean chamber. Keller and Carter also drop out of sight.

Realising that they have fallen into a section of an old Genii mining facility, they begin to search for a way out. But every attempt to escape the confines of the chamber seems to put them in further jeopardy, underscored by the constant tremors that shake their prison with ever greater force.

JM said some time ago that the reference Sam made in the cut scene from Trio was indeed about Jack O'Neill.
He also said he would post the cut segment on his weblog after Trio airs.

It still pisses me off that it was cut. Evidently so Rodney would have time to ask Carter to flash her boobs at some ten year old boys. First things first.

Well, that's the mentality of the writers..... *cough*

Why am I worried that Keller will suddenly become "hard, experienced off-mission person" and McKay will be the whinning one again? *That* would be ridiculous and I hope I am wrong.

Dont be silly you know Rodney will come off looking like an idiot compared to those 2. even though he has more off world experience than Keller (as far as we have been shown)

i am realy, realy worried about this ep being another excuse to make rodneys charcter go further back to his idiotic sg1 days. he had matured but quarrie made him look like an arse again, so i would not expect anyhting less than a resurfacing of idiotic rodney.

sorry.

Yet another episode that will prob not utilize Carter. I'm kinda getting tired of it. I understood it in the beginning but now...

Well let's hope I'm wrong.
But from the looks of things she is injured so she doesn't save the day, and instead McKay does. Really why can't we just let her save the day just once?

Col. Samantha Carter joins Dr. McKay and Dr. Keller on a mission to convince the inhabitants of an off-world village rocked by frequent tremors, to move to a more stable part of the continent. But en route to the village, Dr. McKay plunges into a sinkhole, falling twenty feet to the bottom of a large subterranean chamber. Crawling to the edge of the rupture, Carter and Dr. Keller are relieved to see that McKay is unhurt. Suddenly, they feel the ground beneath them give way and they too drop out of sight.

Realizing that they have fallen into a section of an old Genii mining facility they begin to search for a way out. But every attempt to escape the confines of the chamber seems to put them in further jeopardy, underscored by the constant tremors that shake their prison with ever greater force.

I knew it was a Genii compound before the information was out last night, of course, I waited until today to post it since they usually don't give out episode info until thursday, I knew it because in the preview on scifi they showed the symbol of the Genii on the wall.

The new Atlantis episode, "Trio", will be airing this Friday on SciFi. Here is a little sneak peak of it:

"Trio" (http://stargate.mgm.com/video.php?id=103)

I can't wait to see how Carter, Meredeth and Dr. Keller will get out of it. Also it will be kinda cool too see how they will act together and how uncomfortable Rodney will feel with two beautiful women there with him.

Very. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

The best we can hope for is Keller getting killed in a cave in, maybe all this talk of her being a regular on season 5 is to throw us off!!! At least mckay will feature heavily, that'll make this episode worth veiwing.

from Alex Levine's blog

In any case, Martin explained that Trio was intended to be another smaller, bottle type episode - three people in a room. Those three people, Sam Carter, Jennifer Keller, and Rodney McKay. The idea of course, was to save money. But the story became so logistically complicated, and so dependent on some amazing stunts and "gags" that saving money was not really an option. It became a very expensive show. And the good news - the money shows on the screen.

You may not know this, but there was a "gimbled" set built for the SG-1 movie Continuum, and the SGA producers told them not to tear it down because they wanted to use it. That was, in fact, the inspiration for this episode. But in shooting Continuum, the producers realized the set didn't gimble enough - only about 8 degrees. So they raised the set so it could slant to 20 degrees. There's your first big expense. Martin explained that the trick to shooting a gimbled set is to level the camera to floor. Otherwise the effect doesn't work at all. And engineers were called in to make sure it was all safe.

Martin Wood explained that this was the most difficult episode he directed all year, because it relied on not less than eight different gags. His job, as he explained it, is to push the real action as far as possible, right up to the point that it becomes dangerous for the actors. Then the stunt men and women are called in. And according to James Bamford, our intrepid stunt coordinator, the stunts in this one are awesome.

One final note: the cast had a great time shooting this one, even though it was rigorous and the days were long. Amanda, David, and Jewel literally danced and laughed during takes. I think there was even some dinner theatre in there. So enjoy it, because they enjoyed making it.
