    Marvel Takes Iron Man Back

After more than two years of unsuccessful development at New Line, Marvel has taken back film rights to its Iron Man comic series, about an inventor who dons a high-tech suit and becomes a superhero, Variety reported.

Hopefully, they will do something and get a movie made. The comic book adapatations are halfway decent.

Looks like it's going to happen too. Jon Favreau is directing and it's slated for a May 2008 release (filming starts in February '07). About time...

That's the teaser poster with a concept armor by Adi Granov. Not too shabby.

I don't know much about this character but I will go to see this in the theater, just like Ghost Rider.

Sweet!!! I kind of always liked Iron Man. It could be a great movie if handled properly.

To me it sounds like they're wanting to do this right, so I have high hopes at this point. Here are some interviews with the director, Jon Favreau:

There's also a new animated film in the works that looks to be a good bit more well-done than the Ultimate Avengers movies (at least in terms of technology):

I hope they do this movie right. I used to be a big comic book junkie, and still watch some of the animated shows.

Ghost Rider doesn't look very good to me. I'll watch it anyway, but somehow I don't think I'll enjoy it very much.

I kind of like how Marvel is handling this. They've got the two animated Ultimate Avengers movies out on DVD, being followed up by an animated Iron Man feature and then a weekly animated series after that. They're going to build his visibility before the feature, which is a good thing as Iron Man has never really had the visibility or popularity that Spiderman or the X-Men have enjoyed.

This has nothing to do with the movie (just kind of bumping it, heh...), but it is cool nonetheless, unless you happen to be a Thor fan...

What is Iron Man? (beyond that half sentence description above)

                          Just need a full sentence.

Iron Man is basically a Marvel comics superhero. The story goes that millionaire industrialist and engineer Anthony Stark is mortally injured and captured by an unnamed enemy (in the original origin, it was obviously the Vietnamese Communists as it was a book that began during those years; this has since been retconned a bit, but it remains similar). Seeing this as an opportunity, his captors hold the dying genius in an attempt to work for them, but while they think he's creating weapons for them, he's actually building the means of both his escape and survival...a suit of armor that will simultaneously sustain his injured heart (often parallels are drawn to his armor and an iron lung) and give him the means of regaining his freedom.

HOLLYWOOD, CA, September 29, 2006 – Academy Award® Nominee Robert Downey Jr. will take on the role of one of Marvel's greatest Super Heroes, signing on as the title character for Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated IRON MAN. This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, will launch into theaters May 2, 2008. The film is being directed by Jon Favreau and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.... http://www.marvel.com/news/moviestories.666
I find this odd. He's not exactly the kind of guy I see as a superhero... but then I suppose that may be the point.
