A strong Canadian dollar and the recent ACTRA strike have done little to help a film and TV industry still struggling to return to the production levels it enjoyed in 2002. Nonetheless, the value of foreign production in Canada was up 14% in 2005 over the previous year. And Vancouver remains North America's No. 3 production centre after New York and L.A., with more than 200 movies and TV shows shot here each year. Sci-fi series--from Smallville to the Stargate franchise--have a particular fondness for Lotus Land. For that we can safely credit the diverse geography, veteran talent pool and often outré architecture.
