humans of pegasus galaxy? spoiler ep8 underground

why dont they stop messing about and frustrate the wraith by..

    ..burying their gates?

in general the wraith raid the human worlds via the stargate network. if they kept burying all their gates they'd be forced to come in their ships.

the genii certainly could have a go at a sort of SGC style shielded approach.

What the Wraith harvest between their 200 year or so feeding frenzy probably doesn't equal 10% of what they get in their major culling.

It wouldn't be worth it to lose the trade route. The wraith might simply unbury the gate when they came for the major culling.

      yes, that is possible.

in ep 1 those of taylers people are just milling about rather than hiding in the hills.

for the gates to be open, there must indeed be that trade has become vital.

Please don't use the word 'retards' that way. Some of us have family who are mentally disabled, and the usage is hurtful. Is it possible for a mod to change the thread title?

Could you possibly rephrase your subject line to not be so demeaning and offensive?

And "halfwits" is an improvement? *sigh* Whatever...

If you bury the gate the Wraith come in ships.
If you bury the gate you have no trading partners.
If you bury the gate you have nowhere to run when the Wraith DO come in ships.

I have changed the title - I hadnt considered the offense since 'retarded' people are always called disabled. the word i think has maybe fallen out of use in that way and just now means dumbarse.

As far as the burying the gate thing goes... As already pointed out, the Wraith have ships, they don't need no stinkin' gate. The humans of the Pegasus galaxy, however, DO seem to need the gates- they rely on them for trading and commerce and undoubtedly to keep themselves from getting inbred or too close-minded. And open gate keeps you open to the possibilities. And if anyone ever found a way to defeat the wraith, gosh, it'd be a shame if they couldn't share it with you because you'd locked your door.

im not sure how long it would take for the wraith to do their nastyness if they were restricted to ships only.

It depends how extensive humanity is in the galaxy. that datamodule said like 30 hive ships on the move? but there might be thousands or millions of worlds.

the policy of stargate burying would therefore be acceptable losses. without the stargate network perhaps the wraith would starve or be forced into more extensive hybernation and dependency on only one or two worlds.

when we see our atlantian heros arive at these planets the locals are generally just looking confused - or are in hiding - therefore the gate is not used much for trade - from what we've seen so far.

since the gate is somewhat rarely used - maybe they'd better of trying to be like our earth. basically independent and uplift themselves to a position of strength.

the bury the gate trick worked for earth against the gould - perhaps mass burying would work against the wriath too.

they could always unbury it, unshield it like SGC though.

Odd, I see the exact opposite. Teyla's people seemed to be based around trading with people of other planets before we arrived. They appeared to have had many trading partners.

yes there is trade - but they might be a little abnormal?

even so, their settlement was low tech, looked home grown, their trade?

that weird laser lighter for lighting candles:

                      food for toys.

I think ultimately it comes down to the same answer in Pegesus that it came down to in the Milky Way. Double Jeopardy showed us that telling people to burry their gates doesn't mean they are safe. The Goa'uld (or in this case) the Wraith can still come after you.

The other question becomes if the Wraith are culling at random, or if they are being relatively specific. Buffalo hunters in the American west used to sit at a safe distance and pick off those buffalo that seemed to be acting as leaders until the herd was a mass of confused followers.

It's entirely possible that over 10,000 years most of the human cultures of Pegesus have not been breeding the heroic or the daring, but the ones best at hiding.

You seem very sure of your opinion, canary. I doubt anything any of us say will change your mind. You think the people of the Pegasus galaxy are a bunch of idiots and that burying their gates will magically solve the problem of the Wraith and everyone can go back to holding hands and dancing under the rainbows.

Unless you honestly believe the entire galaxy is THAT stupid, don't you think that SOMEONE might have thought of that before?

well i know, it might be a sort of warp in reality that makes for a good series - otherwise theirs nobody to gate to.

or like how everybody speaks english - every single episode would otherwise be about language barriers.

but sometimes things are just be a warp or for a reason.

It would be funny if they just laid it on the ground face down, so that right when stuff came through (such as ships) it would be squashed on the ground.
