flowers we could do in a few days, the presentation book a couple of weeks (just to make sure that everyone has plenty of time to write their letter/make their art work, etc)

    so, flowers or notes?
Hmm. I guess it's a matter of time here. If we vote on Flowers, we can still acknowledge her first Mother's Day as well as her return to the set and do it fairly quickly.

If we vote on a Presentation - which is a great idea btw - we have to have a definite time constraint so that we don't wait too long. The problem with this option is of course that some may not feel they can contribute...

Lots of great Sam Friendly banners.. like these:

Ooooh something new to play with.... I never thought about making Friendly Zone banner or even an icon until tonight. Hmmm, the possibilities.

I like both ideas... and if we do both, then folks can participate in either or both - whichever they feel best suits them?

I personally vote for both, but I'll go with either. Flowers to say welcome back now and the book to say we're all here rooting for you and our favorite gal Sam later. I know her official website will be posting a link in the next few days that people could send Amanda their best wishes for her and Olivia. She may be a bit busy for awhile to actually have time to read/look through the book anyway.

          Just my two cents,
          Kat

P.S To all the fanfic writers out there... must have more Samfic...

If this is the effect that an actress can have, both by being herself and by playing an amazing character with enough conviction and humanity to make it seem real, then maybe more people should watch tv! Sorry, I know this is sort of rambling and not particularly articulate
No, it's wonderful. Or you're wonderful. Or both. The best tributes to Carter (as character & performance) are the testimonials from people like yourself whose lives have been positively affected by having such a role model.
Janet had kept hoping that it would eventually come out on DVD ... It‚s funny how life can be ... she never once imagined the series might actually outlive her friend.

It was that one weird scene between D &V that put me off. It just seemed so overdone. ... But I must admit, I liked the exchange where Daniel thought the supersoldier found him attractive.
Also, remember "My name is Carlos. You make me hot" from Moebius? I guess they've decided that they can't fight the Shanks-as-gay-icon phenomenon, so they're going to have fun with it instead.
Amanda_Tapping: Martouf, I think Martouf and Sam have a bit more in common
Poor Narim was toast once Martouf showed up. Every time he re-appeared in the series Sam seemed even less interested in him than the time before. In S4-5, Sam had Martouf, Narim, Jack, Orlin & Ambassador Joe all in various romantic orbits around her. Since most of those guys were conveniently unavailable, no commitment issues ever arose.

Yes! That's the best suggestion I've read so far.

And God bless them for eschewing the catfight-in-the-workplace dynamic, which only seems to exist in the jaundiced imaginations of TV writers. It didn't hurt the Carter/Fraiser scenes that AT & TR had mega-chemistry because it reinforced the emotional richness of their friendship, one that was conveyed largely between the lines of the scripts.
As for Vala & Sam, I can't wrap my brain around the idea of the two of them in a scene together. Trying again ... nope; too bizarre. (Unless it was played for subversive comedy, as when Fraiser had to share screentime with Space Hooker Anise and dissed her—sometimes just with looks—at every turn.)
BTW, SG-1 has had female writers in the past, although some (Heather Ash, Jacqueline Samuda) were notably better than others (Katharyn Powers). Sometimes the current boys' club writes well for Carter but they've skeeved her pretty badly in S7-8, too, with PdL's scripts seemingly the worst of the lot. (Which is strange b/c he seems to admire AT so much; you'd think he'd write scripts that didn't dumbassify Sam.)

Indeed. Sky, who writes very idiomatic Carter dialogue in her fiction, is spot-on here. I didn't buy that as being Carter's place & neither did AT. Her idea of Carter living in some drab, hole-in-the-wall apartment (drab because she's never around enough to fix it up) rings a lot truer to me. If the 'it was Jacob's place' explanation doesn't quite hold water, well, she had to come up with some kind of backstory that she could play. (I wonder if the porn videos were one of her 'touches' ... the humor on the set gets pretty racy.) Same w. Carter's wardrobe, which is sometimes very sharp & somewhat tomboyish (like Sam herself) & sometimes very housewife-y & non-threatening ... all those nondescript floral-print outfits & denim jackets. The best costume she ever got was that 'hippie' number in 1969; I wouldn't be surprised if Carter kept that around to wear to parties—or for when she & Daniel get high and watch documentaries.

I have to admit my absolute favorite civvy outfit for Sam is still the one she wore to Jack's cabin in 2010 with the blue jeans, simple white t-shirt and long white overcoat. That's the kind of picture I get in my mind when I see Sam outside of work. I recall hearing in the commentaries for 2010 that AT actually picked out that particular outfit (wish they'd let her pick out more of Sam's civvy clothes).

Another particularly cool piece of info I remember from watching the commentary is they said the scene at Jack's cabin was actually filmed at the time when they were filming the episode 'The Curse' and it was prior to them having a full script for 2010. Brad Wright actually wrote up this scene and gave everyone a quick background of what was going on in the story and they filmed it. RDA and AT were absolutely amazing in it, at least in my opinion, but I may be a bit biased as this is one of my favorite episodes.

Jack: Carter, since Teal'c's not with us, you're on intimidation duty. If they get close, bite 'em

                        Sam: Yes sir! *bares teeth*

(Inspired of course by Sam's biting defense in 'The Serpent's Lair' )

We’ve had another Carter’s Copter sighting. Sam successfully completed the maintenance chores on the copter and is pleased with the results. She feels the copter is ready for a stress test, so she embarks on a highflying journey. Thanks to time-lapse photography we get a glimpse of her piloting skills and physical stamina.

Warning! Don’t look at this pic if you have a headache or aren’t wearing your glasses!! Time-lapse photography can be hazardous to your health…

2010 is one of my favourite episodes as well,i
wrote my very first fan letter to Amanda after watching the scene in Janets office with Janet telling Sam she could never have children.
I found that scene so sad that i wrote the letter to her and 6 months later Amanda sent back a signed photo with a little message to me
and my husband which to this day has touched me
greatly as i did not ask for one but i had put my address at the top of my letter without thinking!
Hopefully with Gabitevents at some point being given a new date i can at least offer Amanda the money for post and packing as if she does this to all her fans she's going to be out of pocket bless her!
