Re S9, the more I hear that I am going to be "floored" and "blown away" by the "awesome" episodes to come the more I feel like somebody is trying to sell me a used car. Where was all this flooring, blowing-away awesomeness during much of the distinctly low-budget S8? The S9 spoilers posted to date have yet to quicken my pulse (well, maybe if Orlin comes back), quite unlike the Atlantis spoilers. A couple of the S9 storylines have a distinctly deja-vu feeling about them, too. Besides, the wholesale decimation of the cast, beginning in Heroes & continuing through the end of S8 almost certainly means growing pains & adjustments, as the audience gets used to at least five new characters—and they to each other. If a similar infusion of fresh writing & producing talent were taking place I might be less guarded in my outlook, but at present it seems like too much change in front of the camera & too little behind it.

Please forgive this rant but the insistence with which the "awesome" nature (though I'd settle for AuSam instead) of S9 is ballyhooed just agitates my B.S. detector. Of course, good execution could make all the difference, but I'd feel better if TPTB started promising less & delivering more. But that's just me. Harrumph!

Traveled to 49 US states (missed Hawaii) & 56 other countries around the world.

Currently I'm playing with 2 different Jazz Bands and I usually play in the pit orchestra for 4-8 musicials a year - Just finished "Music Man" & "Beauty & The Beast" - start rehearsals for "Suessical" next week. Tonights rehearsal was with one of the jazz bands for a big concert we have on May 12th (we rehearse once a week).

I don't remember were I saw it but I have seen a picture of Amanda with a guitar in her trailer on the set. The first time I meet her one of the things I asked her was about her musicial interests and she said that she does play some folk guitar but not in public.

Well I have a zero block (7:00 am) jazz band rehearsal with my school jazz band so I need to head off to bed - I'll try and post a few more things from the con tomorrow.

But here is one last tidbit for tonight about Amanda mentioned this past weekend. Christopher Judge & Michael Shanks were on the same panel when they were told they only had 2 minutes left on stage they said they would quickly answer the questions of the 12 people still in line waiting to ask questions - It was fun watching them answer things in lighting round fashion running back and forth from one side of the stage to the other. Someone asked Christopher why they changed the style of hats they were from Season 1 & 2 to the new style in S3. Chris said "Amanda was having hair issues!"

Great Sam pics...I prefer the later season hats too so I'm on board with AT on that one...

You & me both, 1s4S. I blame my Stargate obsession on Amanda Tapping's unearthly blue eyes (What exact shade are they?) and those incredibly foxy haircuts. That she's a superb actress doesn't exactly hurt, either.
Yes, "a right bonnie lass" may be one of the more severe understatements of the decade. And if you're a pushover for expressive feminine faces, then the combination of Amanda Tapping & Teryl Rothery should keep you in a state of bliss for some time. It certainly does that to me. They can't be on my TV screen enough.

To those who are disappointed that Sam & Jack didn't Do It by the end of S8, I respond: but they did. It's just a matter of reading between the lines. Especially — "I don't know why we didn't do it years ago." "Yes ... let's not dwell." That's some of the shippiest dialogue I've heard on the show since Carter was missing O'Neill in 100 Days and Fraiser asked "Is this going to be a problem [between us]?" Poor Doc Fraiser ... yet another victim of the Black Widow Curse.

... I believe the "ship" stories will go in a new direction. Maybe Daniel and Dr. Lam? Cameron & Dr. Lam? Cameron and the guest star of the week? Maybe Teal'c and Ishta (After all, Jolene Blalock has wrapped up Enterprise now).
            What do you think?
Vis-a-vis your first point, that has been the churning, troubling suspicion at the pit of my stomach ever since the Return of Vala {Ugh!} was announced, bringing with it the introduction of the Farscape symbiote into the Stargate host. Either it's a CYA move in case AT doesn't re-up for S10 or an attempt to grease the skids for her in favor of someone with a different fan demographic.

As for your second point, What do I think? NO! Noooooooooooo!! Enough!!! No more shipping!!!!
That's what I think. I'm should cover my ears & hide under my desk, that's what I think.
Seriously, the shippiness has become too much of a distraction from the central premise of the show. It's bad enough that the substantive Fraiser is being replaced by someone who might as well have "Bimbo" tattooed across her forehead. And Jolene Blalock? Back, Show Killer! Take thy non-acting elsewhere! Fix Teal'c up with Vala or something, if one simply must ship.
S1-3 were pretty ship-free & they rocked. It's about time Stargate got back to Terry & the Pirates/Flash Gordon/Fu Manchu dynamic of its early years. And now that Sam/Jack has run its course, let's have at least a temporary moratorium on ships (with one possible exception ... )

*takes deep breath and pokes head through door* Hello! I've been reading this thread for the past few...well, weeks, I suppose...and thought it was about time I actually posted something! Sam's been my favourite tv character and role model ever since I first started watching the show. Amanda Tapping is amazing!!! My fave Sam eps are 'Learning Curve' and 'Urgo' for the humour and great interplay between characters, 'Grace', 'Threads' and 'Moebius' for AT's amazing acting and 'Death Knell' and 'In the Line of Duty' for sheer Sam brilliance!
The main reason I'm finally posting (!) is because I was re-watching 'Gemini' today and got a bit freaked out by all the changes that have hit Sam over the last two seasons. Does anyone else think that some - just a little bit! - of her 'morality', for lack of a better word, has begun to slip away? I mean, when she lied to Fifth and left him on Halla, we at least saw some of the effect it had on her, we know that it really tore her apart. But in 'Gemini' she tells RepliCarter to trust her and promises to help her build a new life - yet is all the while preparing to kill her, apparently without a second thought. And since the writers opened up her more feminine side, with Pete etc, how often have we gotten to see more than a few seconds of kick-butt soldier Sam?
*sighs* Hopefully this is just me being a melodramatic drama queen! And dont get me wrong, I still love and respect the Sam character!!! I just hope we see a more confident and in charge Sam in season nine. Which, btw, I probably wont be seeing for AGES, coz australian networks seem to hate sci-fi. GRRR.
Anyways, ending on a happier note, Sam rocks - no matter what the silly silly PTB try to do to her!

*realises how much written and how much sense it really doesn't make...and runs away!* please dont hate me, oh wonderful Samandans!!! You'll like me once you get to know me!!! Honest!!!

I just looked at them and said, 'You know guys, smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors. There's a lot of push me-pull you working here.' That's all it ever was and is all it's ever going to be!"
Poor AT/Sam... she looks like an aunt whose nieces have made her play dress-up! And that expression on her face... barely controlled disgust and outrage!
I can't recall the last time I saw an actor so obviously disgusted with the material they were being made to play. The episode was sexist, backward dreck from top to bottom and, boy, did it make you feel mortified for both character & actress. Stargate has never lived that one down.

As for the cleavage, however ... I wonder if it's that much of an illusion. Sam's bosom has been on increasingly prominent display the last few seasons, to the point where it threatens to steal entire scenes. This was particularly diverting in scenes with Fraiser, who appeared to be getting quite an eyeful from her low-angle perspective.

A poster named Yasureyoubetcha made a really great observation regarding Sam and how she handled Replicarter. Basically, his theory, and it really makes sense to me, is that Carter overcompensated with Replicarter because of the mistakes she knew she had made with Fifth.

What do you all think? Did this Yasureyoubetcha guy get it right or what??? If he was on this thread, I'd have to blue him just for that alone...

But he was asking about S/J shippers, no? Factor in the Jack/Daniel ones (who were probably stewing silently), the Janet/Daniel ones, plus the—*cough!*—Sam/Janet shippers & you'd probably have a much bigger show of hands. (There are, of course, several other permutations—some too squicky to mention.)

ChopinGirl suggests bringing back Joe. Aaaaack! Not that dullard—again! Although he's not definitively dead ... those two effete Aschen guys may have simply captured Joe in '01 & made him their sex slave. But I never thought he made the cut of Sam's cooler would-be boyfriends (Martouf, Narim, Orlin, Jack, Rodney).
As for the remark about Mitchell being willing to serve under Carter, there's a wisecrack just dying to be made ... but I think I'll pass.

(My apologies for the sudden plethora of posts; you guys have been in inspiring form of late.)
