Heroes in the UK - Very poor form.

If anyone is watching Heroes in the UK - and has already seen the currently airing episodes via other sources I was wondering if you had noticed the really poor cutting of scenes that I found really dramatic in the original aired American versions.

SPOILERS BELOW FOR - ONE GIANT LEAP

For example, in the most recent episode when Matt and Audrey are chasing Syler through the FBI Headquarters a dead body is shown frozen solid - this scene was cut from the UK Broadcast and as such I feel as though significant tension was lost because of it, leading to a less dramatic first encounter with the series villain.

I was wondering what other peoples thoughts on this our - and if anyone could offer up an explanation or theory on why they are needlessly editing the episodes. I feel that friends and family are missing out on the full experience that I had, and it's greatly disappointing - hopefully BBC 2 will do better in the second half of this year.

I hadn't heard the UK had the show cut, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing it for ad time. Scifi tends to air a lot more than the 12 minutes per hour for ads that are allowed.

It's not an issue for BBC2, so i'd expect the full version on it.

What time do they show it in the UK?

      - I'd say, wait a couple more episodes and see if they continue cutting stuff or not. It could be that they're cutting out the more gore-infested parts.

It airs at 10:00 - and it's not an issue of gore, they have already shown the scenes which contain Niki's kills and the victims of Syler - just not this particular victim.

Also - another of the scenes they cut was of Simone standing the doorway on Issac's painting.

        A fair argument though mate.

How disappointing. Heroes is a fanastically written and crafted show, cutting bits of it for no reason is just not on

BBC2 is supposed to air the show right after Scifi finishes, but I am not sure how many episodes the first season is supposed to have so I am not sure when exactly that will be. I have heard June thrown about but nothing confirming it.

I know, talk about amazing. Now all they need to do is remove the softcore porn, the non scifi movies (like Entrapment) and actually try competing with Sky One.

I'd bet money that after the first or second season, Sky will end up wanting it.

It's not 12 minutes of commercials per hour of television, it's 18 minutes per hour, unless it's a late night talk show or news (in which case it's more like 22 minutes per hour).

Television in the US hasn't had 12 minutes of commercials per hour since the 1980's.

The stations here (Australia) do similar things.
Channel 7 used to cut stuff from shows, but now they almost always go 10 minutes overtime with their shows during peak time. Clearly for more ad time, but it also makes you miss 10 minutes of a show on another channel. Its extremely annoying.

I heard on talk back radio a while ago, people were ringing in about the sudden overtime every show had on that station. They got an exec from the station on the line and he blamed it on the American shows being too long, and that people complain if they cut things from the show. What a crock, they're just shoving more ads in. With shows like 24, that have a clear ad break transition with the clock ticking, you can tell when the station places ads where they weren't intended because it just cuts immediately to an ad and you don't get the ticking transition. The editors for the shows make conscious decisions about where the ads should be placed for the best story flow, messing with that is very bad form in my opinion.

Maybe if everyone complains to Sci-Fi about their editing of Heroes, they might start doing what our CH7 is doing. At least then you get to see the episode the way it was intended.
Thus it will come to pass... the dying leader will know the truth of the opera house... the missing 3 will give you the 5 who have come from the home of the 13th... you are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace - you will lead them all to their end. End of line.
