As the stargate seasons are in HD now I'm pretty certain the movies will be.

      Don't be too sure. I'm guessing it's blu-ray. Why? Sony-MGM - that's why!

Sorry but at this point in time releasing the Series and the Movies in either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD format is jsut isnt a good idea ...

With SONY and TOSHIBA fighting over what format is better , its hard to say what fan base has the BLu-Ray Dives and What fans have the HD-DVD Drives or Players ... Sorry about that one ...

Yes it would be nice to see STARGATE SG-1 and Atlantis on HD Format , and the Movies in an HD Format , But whos to say the sales are going to be high with the movies ... At that whats to say the Seres will sale good in the HD format ... MGM would be wasting money they could use for more movies for this new format instead ... Sorry but i would rather see mroe MOVIES come out rather then see them make the Movies or TV Seres in HD or Blu-Ray format ..

If they had to choice a Format , well sorry to tell you its going to be in the BLU-RAY format ... Seeing how the STARGATE Movie is in Blu-Ray format , Sony and MGM will put the newer movies in the same format ... Link to Prove it ... Suncoast Video & SonyStyle

Pitbull has a point. As is stands, there are too few HD players on the market (and even they are expensive), and of course the holy war between HD-DVD and blue-ray is going to make matters worse.

This is a matter that really irritates me, and stinks of anti-competitive practices (although I'm not sure if it will warrant action from regulators) The PS3 and the MGM connection certainly provides blue-ray with what is (in my mind) an unfair advantage.

Fortunately, there are a few studios who are planning on releasing movies in both formats, and there's even word about technology to allow both formats to be put on the same disk (an article I read some time ago, I'll try to dig it up). Of course that won't do for Sony, it'll be blue-ray all the way (unless it becomes a flop and they HAVE to switch to HD-DVD, remember betamax? That was the superior format, but people opted for the cheaper VHS standard)

            Edit: Here's the article - http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/01...total_hd_disc/

It'll be bluray, but only if bluray makes it to the release. I mean come on HDDVD is better looking and easier to work with. Sony has been rumored to start making moves against the adult entertainment industry and not allow them to go bluray, meaning the porn flicks will go HDDVD. The pervert population has increased since betamax did that, and we all know how that turned out...

So... if it is released in bluray, MGM will lose money. Im sorry HDDVD won. I hate sony tho so im biased.. Well I dont hate them, but technologically they suck, i mean PS3, Bluray, battery explosions, development on an anti ipod, so many mistakes for a company thats almost eligible for bankruptsy

MGM is no longer with Sony. They opted out last year and the distributor of Stargate SG-1 DVDs is 20th Century Fox now. See the cover of season 9 box released in USA/Canada and also Fox's website. So I suppose there's a great chance the movies will be released in HD format.

They Should Really Try and Strike a Deal with Microsoft , Put The Season 10 Sg1/ Atlantis Season 3 Episodes on Xbox Live in HD and charge for it.. lol... they'd make a killin

That's good to hear. The obvious problem with supporting only 1 format is that backing the loosing horse could have dire consequences (this isn't me blowing things out of proportion, it's me pointing out that studios could be stuck with a lame-duck format and not be able to compete in the HD market, which will grow)

The probably won't until this whole "format war" is resolved. Many people that I know aren't going to buy either one until the war is over. That's is what I'm doing, they are too expensive to pick one and risk it losing.
