    SteamBoy Anime coming to theatres!!

Verrry cool "steampunk" type anime. set in mid 1800-s London or thereabouts. A "future world of the past" or "retro future" story.

This is created by Katsuhiro Otomo; who also brought us "Akira". I'm not sure...but I even think he drew the "Actors" with the same faces as in Akira...as if "real" actors starring in a second film ;-)

    Synopsis:
"A retro science-fiction epic set in Victorian England, Steam Boy features an inventor prodigy named Ra Stim who receives a mysterious metal ball containing a new form of energy capable of powering an entire nation. This young boy must use it to fight evil, redeem his family, and save London from destruction. The lush Victorian interiors and the elegance of the era's mechanical design allows Otomo to create dazzling visual backgrounds and machines for this film. With more than 180,000 drawing and 400 CG cuts, Steam Boy is sure to be one of the most elaborate animated features of 2004."

This has been out for a while, cause I think SciFi wire had a post like this.

But I did read this somewhere, and I do remeber that poster.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

This movie was only released in Japan on 2004-07-17. It will not be released to US until later. It is supposed to be by at least end of year 2004, with a European date around that time or perhaps later than that.

All anime news sources as late as 31 August still place a US release date as "indeterminate". There will be two versions...a dubbed print and a japanese print with subtitles. Which a theatre shows may be entirely up to the management of that partcular facility, considering the target audience of that area, etc.

Of course, it is common to see lobby cards/posters at theatres months (even occasionally a year) before any pending release.

You might have seen publicity sorrounding the NY Otaku anime festival that was to be this labour day weekend. It might have been pre screened there, but with the Republican Convention competing for hotel space, the Anime convention was cancelled and TPTB have chosen to plan for an Anime Convention in 2005, cancelling this year's entirely.

        No I didn't see a movie poster.

I saw THAT poster, the one you posted, somewhere online.

        And I read the synopsis.

Finally, a U.S. theatre date for "Steamboy". 18 March!

As my poster link update in initial post, I see voice actors from U.S. cinema listed <sigh>. Still excellent, but would have preferred subitles...eh have to catch that on the DVD.
