If we don't learn the Asgard ascended or did something else cool to survive, heads will roll.

Overall it was an incredibly touching, exciting and overall great series finale. Considering what I thought would happened, I was thinking that this episode couldn't really be considered a final episode since the events were supposed to be undone but I see that I was wrong. Apart from the Asgard, it was well done and one of the better finales i've seen.

The beginning of the episode is a clear "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility' picture. The Asgard give us the only IMMORTAL thing they had. If the Asgard weapons could destroy ORI ships, I do not even want to know what a fleet of O'Neill class ships can do, equipped with the latest technology.

Episode was perfect, action, drama, love and humour.

RIP ASGARD and you will never be forgotten!!! We kick ORI ass because of your people THOR!!!

Then Carter learns how to play the chello, daniel and vala have an emotional argument then finally get together. Teal'c gets a grey streak of hair! Mitchell goes cooko crazy! Landry died! Thought Sam and Teal'c really shone in this episode. They were definitely the ones to watch, they're scene where they hug was so good - I almost cried. However, I felt it was a little odd, not last episodey...if that makes sense. Except the final scene of the ep - very heartfelt, although I felt the lack of Jack's presence :(. And I felt so sorry for Teal'c - to have to live with all that knowledge and keep it a secret. :tealc:

Great moments during the episode though.

Walter getting a nice send off with the traditional "Chevron" rundown.

Finally being able to be called the Fifth Race and seeing that actually meant a lot when Carter heard it.

Daniel and Vala getting together, even though it didnt stick

Landry dieing

Seeing Thor again!!!

Them all finishing on "Indeed", nice nod to Teal'c who doesnt always get a lot on the show

Im sure i'll think of more later!

... because if it hadnt of, then I'd never of ever seen an episode as good as that!

Honestly, it was brilliant, without SG1 continued the asgards would of been useless anyway... and.. well.. dead.

Now we can finally macth up to the ORI, and I expect we can see these new upgrades appearing on Atlantis at somepoint, honestly, the fifth race.. they chose us for their legacy.. it was just amazing..

Yeah, was an awesome episode. Bit sad its all over for now though.

From the ep the Odyssey only really blows up one and kinda damages another one before leaving. Though some may have been taken out by the Asgard, which I would have thought would have been all peaceful when suiciding but apparently not.

Jaffa live for like 200 years or something so for T 50 years ain't much of a problem.

Here's the summary for the whole thing, it'll probably be in two parts though.

PART I - Unending

Mitchell and Teal'c are sparring, Mitchell gets his ass whuped.

A surprise party on the prometheus, the gangs all there, even landry. They go to thor's homeworld Orilla (sp?) Thor is planning to upload all the asgard knowledge, technology and the whole kit and kabbudle onto the prometheus. Their race is dying out and they don't want their legacy to go to waste, so Thor is having a whole load of Asgard beamed up and integrated. The powerfl upgrade won't drain the ZPM. The asgard have a disease that's wiping them out, and this is the only way out. They plan to commit mass suicide. They've built an interface into the system (think the hologram version). Thor told Sam that all their hopes are on them, and they've earned the respect from the Asgard and this is their legacy. Sam gives Thor a cuddle as way of saying goodbye.

Three ori motherships turn up and start blasting the ship as the Asgard disembark. They try and jump to hyperspace but it looks as if it's been hit. Thor's homeworld blows up, but they can't go to hyperspace yet until they've cleared the blast wave.

They fire everything they've got at one of the Ori motherships and blast it into space...

Landry wants to duplicate the Asgard technology, Sma thinks that there are a few problems and wants to come out of hyperspace, but the Ori are closing in on them, two more appear. The hyperdrive comes back online and they evade the Ori for a brief time. They're specualting how they found them in hyperspace. Ooops it's the Odeysey, not the Prometheus. The asgard core they think is what the Ori are using to track them, but it's tied in to all their makore systems. The Ori keep firirng on them and it's draining their shields. Sam gets the hyperdrive online and the Ori haven't followed them yet. They have to seperate the hyperdrive from the asgard technology. They try and head for P3X 474. Rather than letting the technology fall into the hands of the Ori, they have a plan to blow it up if it comes to that. Sam comes up with a plan to buy them some time. Most of the crew are beamed onto the planet as the Ori approach. They concentraite their attack on one vessel at a time, but the Odeyssey is getting its ass whupped.

ooooooooh the ori fire on them, but it stops short of the Odeysey as time has frozen, they're in a time dilation field. Sam's planning to phase the Oddesey so that the weapon goes right through them. Sam's telling the team it could take them several months to get it done, but they have enough provisions to see them through. Vala is bored and Landry tells them there's lots of paperworl to catch up on. Hologram Thor is helping Sam with merlins phase technology weapon. Mitchell goes for a run. Vala and Teal'c are in the storage closet and Teal'c is getting frustrated with Vala.

Sam can't get the phase technology to work before the time dilation field shuts down, so they are most likely gonna get blasted out the sky if they risk it.

Sam's trying to come up with alternatives, but it's going to take a lot of time. Vala in the mean time turns up in the elevator in a pink chiffon dress and Daniel takes no notice. Mitchell is getting frustrated. Sam materialises a cello...no clue why, lol. Each of them are trying to do their own thing to elleviate the boredom. Daniel is getting philisophical and saying life is too short. Vala starts flirting with Daniel and tries to undoe his pants, lol. Daniel sorta tries to stop her, lol. Vala's offended and she thinks he doesn't like her. They're having a bit of an argument, Daniel can't imagine having a relationship with Vala, and Vala is upset (Daniel seems very angry for some strange reason) He's so OTT, I think he likes her, and it's just the whole boys pulling the girls pigtails in the playground :D :D Vala puts her top back on and gets all upset with him, Daniel doesn't believe that her feelings are hurt, when they are. And he kisses her on the lips...heheh I was right. So they have a bit of a snog and vala walks out after.....and runs in to mitchell.

I simply love the "no strings" attitude Thor has. When SAM almost crying says there has to be more you can do, poor Thor, tries to explain that they gave them everything the ASGARD have learnt!!!!! It is very difficult to think that the Asgard were not very advanced when they met the Ancients. Amazing effects and the "room" where Daniel went to study reminded me of the Ancient learning program in Atlantis. Once again Daniel stays adamant when it comes to knowledge. He seems to value Thor and the Asgard more than Mitchell.

I am very curious how the ORI managed to detect the new "Asgard" vessel. I wonder if Adria had anything to do with it. How would they detect their hyperspace exit point?

Mate, the Prometheus was destroyed! It is the Odyssey...

PART II

Landry is watering his plants, Mitchell thinks they should try out the F302's it's confirmed that the Ori can definately track them because of the asgard technology. Mitchell wants to just remove it, but Landry tells him that he doesn't want to know. Vala offers to helps Sam. Ah Sam's always wanted to learn how to play the cello.

Vala talks about time travel as a way to get out of the mess, it won't work. They try sharing ideas, but nothings working. Landry's made himself a green house, Vala is skating around the ship and they're all laughing and joking together. Mitchell is still mulling over the F302 idea. They have christmas on board the ship and Vala is sat on Daniels lap.

Lots of canoodling between vala and Daniel, and everyone's getting a little testy. Mitchell has a hissy fit and destroys his quarters as he's frustrated with everything. Sam is still getting help from the hologram asgard.

Sam plays the cello as OMG Landry looks old and decrepid...or is it mitchell? it's now been 20 years since they got stuck in the time dilation field and they are all looking a little bit older...well alot. Daniel has that weird long hair again, Sam's is shoulder length. Sam has finally given up of the hopes of getting out of there, Landry is dying. Sam holds his hand as Landry lays dying and he tells her not to give up.

Landry is dead and they all mourn for him.

Mitchell has finally lost it adn is mumbling to himself as he stares out of the F302 bay. He mentions about getting the band back to gether, but didn't want it like this, apparently he's said it everyday for months.

Teal'c is the only one who looks half decent.

Sam has figured a way out to reverse the field, it's drained the majority of the ZPM, but they haven't got enough power. Mitchell reminds her of the time she got shot, and they could exchange the power supply like they did. He show's her the energy from the weapon and they might be able to cyphen it and channel it into the core, and with that they will be able to reverse the time, so technically if it works they'll only be dead for a few seconds. They can only go back to when it all began, but someone has to stay behind.

Sam created a programme to seperate the Asgard technology from the core. Teal'c volunteers to be the one to stay behind.

Daniel and Vala have a moment.

Sam goes for broke and tries it out trapping Teal'c in a shield of some sort and then time starts all over again blowing up the Odeyssey, it then magically comes back to life as the time dilation field reverses,a dn it's like it never happened.

Everyone is young again. Teal'c looks as if he's frozen in time.

Cut to the base...

Vala is in Cheyanne mountain, and everything is back to normal, except for Teal'c and his grey hair. Vala is asking if she hooked up with anyone, but Teal'c who is the only one to remember anything isn't telling her.

The gate dials and everyone is back in Cheyanne mountain. They have a moment before going through the gate. Daniel is being prophetic, including the addage Silence is golden, and Sam says, nothing ventured nothing gained. Teal'c says, all good things come to those who wait. sam says that it must be torture for Teal'c not to say anything and he says indeed.

The whole team head out one last time through the gate but not before all saying in unison, "Indeed"!!

It's the end of an era.....

Wow, don't know what to say, I enjoyed the episode but felt a little short changed that there was no mention of Jack in the very last episode. I kind of felt a little jealous that Daniel and Vala got that time together, but in good old Stargate tradition neither of them will remember anything, as a Sam/Jack fan I'm disappointed that we never got such a definite declaration of love, 50 years together! I thought their scenes were played really well, I was even shouting at Daniel for being too harsh at one point. I can't believe that the Asgard are no more.

Must admit to a few tears at the end, I can't believe that I've spent 10 years with these characters. Though I stopped buying the DVD's at the end of season 8, I've not missed one single episode. Stargate SG1 brought me to the online world of fan forums and for that alone I owe it a huge thanks.

Besides Daniel/Vala, how was the character relationship in this episode. Was there a moment with every character where they talked about the relationships they've formed?

shelsfc
March 13th, 2007, 02:20 PM
LOL, I'm in the minority - I was a bit disappointed by that. Not in a 'That was awful' kind of way, just a 'they could have ended that better' kind of way. I loved all the stuff at the start with the Asgard, and the last scene was quite sweet (though I was hoping that when Walter said 'Chevron 7 locked', it would be the last line!! Indeed was good though ;) )
But all the stuff on the ship just felt odd. Not like an SG1 ep. I'm still undecided about Daniel & Vala - it was sweet. But it felt like it was just there for the sake of having a romance. (And I might be a little bitter cos I'm a Sam/Jack shipper and we never got that sort of resolution. Though I'd probably be upset if I was a D/V shipper and got all that only for it to be taken away. But that's a discussion for other threads)I was thinking 'Wow, Daniel's mean!' when he was ranting at her.
They killed the all the Asgard!! OMG!! And Thor actually called the Tau'ri the Fifth Race! I got a bit of a lump in my throat from that. And even though I was really hoping they would at least mention Jack's name (especially with the conversation between Thor and Sam), I wasn't really expecting them to. Though I like to think 'life is too short' might have been a nod to RDA.

So overall (after those disjointed ramblings...) I thought it was good, but not quite The Lost City ;)

And I'm gutted that it's all over :(

Hey, it is far more interesting this way. Teal'c knows and this is very intelligent from TPTB. Daniel was so defensive when Vala made a move. Maybe because she gave him the impression she just wanted a "quickie"....It is good they got that room together. We had to wait so much to finally be the 5th race of the Alliance. The biggest achievement in the whole SAGA and it will never be continued. Imagine the possibilities now to continue the story. At least Atlantis will benefit from this!

So here we've come. The end of Stargate Sg1.
Unending was great.

Daniel and Vala were great and it was great to finally see them together. Sam was brilliant. Cameron was fantastic and Landry was extraordinary. The only thing i thought we needed more of on the ship was Teal'c. We had all the others lives, but Tealc wasnt shown very much - there shouldve been a bigger lead-up to what he did at the end.
Still... one heck of an episode

I think its fine that they didnt mention Jack.

In some shows, when a new set of charecters are introduced, it is a downward spiral.

In SG1, Mitchel and Vala, perhaps due to their actors previous Farscape experience, actually raised the show again...

This was a send-off for them as much as past SG1.

I thought that Daniel's rant at Vala was a bit uncharecteristic of him - he is usually level headed, yet it had exactly the desired dramatic impact...

The loss of the Asgard was a seal on the end of an era. What started with the Fifth Race, ended here, with humans assuming their place in a new universe.

Everytime a show like this ends, I cant help but feel like people I know have died...

Knowing they wont be on my TV every week.

This episode was brilliant.
Man we are the fifth race now.
And us kicking the ori butts left right and center, was enjoyable, just love to of seen adria face when she sure that happening.
And the acting was to notch. I think this could of been the best final ever.

Their just one thing that bug me is the o'neils that the Asguard built I mean come on they must of had a few left or in the dockyards,. I really hope that the asguard are not gone, that they just hid themselves or something, they do not seem like the mass suicide kind of race, and more than the kind will not stop fighting until the end.

Ands I will admit now, I, could barly hold back the tears through the episode.

Unending Synopsis - Part 1
ENJOY!!!
(excuse any typos!)

Teaser

Shot of the Odyssey

Inside, Tealc and Cam sparing in the Gym.
They are talking about a betting pool on something important. They don’t know where they are going, but have been told it’s a very important meeting at a planet.
Daniel walks into a room – Vala has organised a surprise party!
But Daniel says not my birthday and walks back out
Vala has organised it as she is so bored!!!.

On the bridge – Landry is in charge!!

They arrive at a set of co-ordinates and Thor beams aboard.

Thor and the high council want to meet with them. They offer to do upgrades to the ship. They offer to give them everything they have, all their knowledge, all their technology.
They are all stunned and ask why when in the past the Asguard wouldn’t share.
Thor explains that the Asguard are all dying and very soon will all be dead.

Act 1
On board, they are lots of Asguard doing upgrades. They are giving them an information core , all their information is being interfaced with the ship and many technical upgrades taking place..
Sam asks if there is nothing else they can do. Thor says they are giving them everything but she means about their survival. Very touching scene with Sam and Thor.

The rest of the team are talking. The Asguard basically have provided all the information as a legacy. The Asguard don’t want to degrade so far and plan to terminate themselves before they degrade too far.

Thor explains that the Tauri are the 5th race and that the Asguard want them to be the ones to take the knowledge, they will be the legacy of the Asguard. “No Pressure” says Sam. She is very touched and quite upset at the prospect of losing Thor. He says they will still be able to call back a holographic representation but Sam says – it wont be the same.

She embraces him.

They are surprised by 3 Ori ships arriving and opening fire. Thor and the rest of the Asguard beam away. The Odyssey cant jump away to hyperspace yet. Sam is working on it..
Suddenly the planet they were orbiting explodes.
Although Sam now has the hyperdrive on line, they must get away from the radiation of the planets blast before they can jump away. They have to take a risk and engage the Ori ships by using the newly upgraded Asguard weapons.

They engage and destroy the Ori – the newly upgraded weapons are awesome!.

Act 2

Odyssey in hyperdrive

Landy and Sam talk.
Sam is being asked to duplicate the weapons but Sam is concerned about the hyperdrive and some strange readings she is seeing. She wants to drop out of hyperdrive and check it out.
As soon as they do, they are engaged by 2 Ori ships

They quickly return to hyperdrive.

SG1 are talking with Lanadry. They are concerned about whether the Ori and the priors may be able to track them with the new power source on the ship. It seems strange that as soon as they drop out of hyperspace the Ori arrive.
They want to test the theory by dropping out of hyperdrive and seeing what happens. Sam wants to take the asguard core offline and then isolate all the systems so removing whatever it is that the Ori can seem to track. The problem is they new core is linked to all the systems and they need time to isolate and remove the links.
They drop out and again the Ori find them very quickly, much quicker than Sam can isolate the information core from the hyperdrive of the ship

They need a ½ hour window for Sam to be able to split the core from the ship.

They talk about possibly destroying the ship but Daniel argues against it – they cannot give up so quickly or lightly the asguard legacy.
Sam thinks she has a plan to buy some time.

They make from a planet where there is a stargate. They drop out and are engaged by the Ori in a huge battle, they are getting battered and are close to being destroyed. An Ori ship fires and a beam is just about to hit the Odyssey
But right at the last moment, most of the crew are beamed away to the planet with the stargate leaving only SG1 and Landry aboard, Sam puts the ship into a localised time dilation field. It stops everything in mid flow, including the Ori weapon beam which is frozen just short of the Odyssey.

Sam explains that she needs to recreate some of Merlins technology for a phase shift, which will let them avoid the beam from the Ori ship and it may take a long time – maybe 3 months are more – for her to engineer it. She needs to build some of it from scratch.

As Landry says – no-one will have an excuse to be behind on their paperwork!!

Same starts working.
Cam is running around the ship
Daniel is trying to catch up on research
Vala and Tealc are checking the food supplies

Sam takes 2 weeks to find out that there isn’t enough time to take the ship out of phase before the shot from the Ori will hit. All the scenarios she is running will not work before the beam will hit and destroy them
They can keep working on it looking for alternatives but its going to be ages!!

They are all trying to keep busy.
Tealc and Cam spar again.
Vala tries to seduce Daniel. He shuts his door on her!
Sam conjures up a Cello to play
Daniel does research.

Vala and Daniel together. He is talking about the Asguard and their sacrifice – he says life is too short!
She says she agrees. She starts to undress and tries to do the same to Daniel
He rebuffs her. She asks whether he fancies her!
He says do you really want to know what I feel. He lays into her ranting about whether she thinks he could be serious about her!! He thinks they are so wrong together. He thinks she is insincere with him, that its not serious,. He says that just when finally he is ready to move on with his life and can start to think about being serious with someone, she is just messing around
She is really upset as he rants. She has her back to him and has tears running down her face.
He then realises she is really upset. Very touching scene as he realises that she really does care about him very deeply – he kisses her tenderly
And says you better no be messing with me!!! They disappear out of shot whilst kissing.
Cut to Vala exiting Daniels quarters, she is putting her top back on and is very dishevelled and has a very dreamy look. Its clear that they have slept together. Cam runs by, and then stops suddenly. He realises what has happened!!

And part 2

*****************************************************
Act3

Landry is tending a pot plant.
Cam comes to see him and pleads that they should take their chances with the F302s to escape even though they talked before and believe there still would not be enough time to escape before the beam hits..
Cam is so frustrated about being stranded. Landry doesn’t want to listen.

Sam in the commissary, alone and upset.

Vala comes to see her and offers to help.
They start working, talking about how they can shut off the time dilation field.
Vala suggest going back in time!! Sam says it would be virtually impossible although a good idea.

They are all eating together with music playing.

Cut to a montage of them all going about lots to tasks.
Cam running, Vala roller skating, Landry tending plants, Them all eating together, celebrating Christmas, Landy and Cam playing chess.

Daniel and Vala, cuddling together and then getting more and more frustrated, crying.
Cam trashes his room through anger and frustration at being stuck.

They are getting quieter and quieter, more and more frustrated.
Sam is trying to find a way to fix but to no avail.

Cut to a scene with Old:Landry all grey coughing badly. He is staring out the window at the Ori beam, just short of hitting the ship.
You hear someone (Sam) playing the Cello, Daniel and Vala in bed, he says 21 years today!
Cut to old Sam, long hair playing the Cello beautifully.

Cut to old Daniel doing research.
Sam goes to see him and asks why he keeps learning.
He says if he stops it will be giving up.
He says she has not given up but she says she has.

Cut to Landry dieing in a bed. Sam is crying, and apologising for not finding a way to fix it. He says it is not her fault.
She leaves the room and embraces Tealc in tears. Clear that Landry has died!

They are still stuck in the time dilation.

Cut to a much, much older Cam looking at the outside where the beam is held just short of hitting the ship
Cut to all the team eating together, all very much older. Its been 50 years!!.

Sam suddenly says she has worked out how to reverse time in a localised time dilation field. But the problem is that after all this period, the ZPM is nearly depleted and there isn’t enough power to make it happen. The ultimate irony, they know how to do it but cant now due to lack of power.

Cam has an idea, what about another source of power. He has an idea, use the blast from the Ori.
They try to work out whether they can get enough power channelled into the conduits to get the power they need.
They are not sure if it will work, they can let the blast hit the ship, hope that it gets enough power, and they can jump back to just before when they started the time dialation field.
But one of them must stay outside the field in order to make sure that Sam doesn’t activate the time dilation field and therefore changes the course of the path they must take..
One of them will effectively stay old.
Tealc volunteers. Being old anyway, his ageing has been significantly less pronounced. Although he has aged the 50 years too, Jaffa live longer so the effect has been little and he can stand the extra years more easily.
He offers to be the one to “stay” aged as he will still have many many years left to live.
Sam is not sure it will work. If it doesn’t , they will be blown apart by the beam. If it does they will not remember the last 50 years!!

Act 4
Daniel and Vala share a touching scene. He says he wants her to know……..
They don’t say the words but it is clear what they mean.

They start the process of stopping the time dilation and letting the beam hit them, Sam turns off the field and Tealc shields himself as the ship blows apart..

The Ori shot his the ship, they return back to the start. But just as Sam is going to activate the time dilation field, Teals stops her and they enter hyperspace and get away.

Back at the SGC, Vala is trying to get Tealc to tell her if she hooked up with anyone!
He wont say anything!!

SG1 are embarking on a mission. They are getting ready to exit through the gate.
They are all talking. They say although they cannot remember, they have learnt lots. They all say lots of quotes and cliches,
And things they have learned from the Asguard, look before you leap, silence is golden, jack of all trades, nothing ventured nothing gained etc etc
culminating in “life is too short” from Vala
and “good things come to all that wait” from Tealc.

As much as it is difficult for them not to remember, Sam says it must be torture for Tealc not to tell them what he knows happened– he responds “indeed!”

Cam says, just another everyday mission to save the world. They all say together “indeed!” and leave through the gate.

If we don't learn the Asgard ascended or did something else cool to survive, heads will roll.

They actually mentioned in the episode that Ascension is not an option for the Asgard; the genetic manipulation they have done over the years prevents them from attaining the physiological evolution required to ascend. Sorry.

I liked the ep. Lots to enjoy though I did also find it a tad overdone here and there - the whole schmaltzy, end of an era thing. And much as I quite enjoyed seeing Daniel and Vala get together (and of course it was guaranteed they'd remember nothing about it in the end - TPTB never give us any kind of relationship event without there being a big reset button - be it AU, alien possession, whatever) I did think the scene was clichéd to heck and back. I actually said out loud, "Don't tell me after all that he's now gonna kiss her anyway because she's crying!" *groan*

Anyway. An enjoyable enough ep and a fairly good send off (though some of the old age make-up was a bit cheesy and jeez, could they not manage to materialise a pair of scissors? Where is it written that all the men have to let their greying hair grow wild and free?!! Teal'c managed to keep his trimmed!!).

Uh-tha-that's all folks!!

Vala_M
March 13th, 2007, 02:30 PM
Even if Teal'c still looks the same at the end of the ep, keep in mind, he was 102 back in 2000, so he was 109 in "Unending" at the start, so he's "149" now, Bra'tac is 143 (he was 133 in 1997 in "Bloodlines") so there is a huge piece of retcon here. Esp. with Teal'c being OLDER than Bra'tac now!

Anyone else agree?

Vala,

I Joined the forum after reading for so long just to post for this topic and episode.

I really enjoyed this episode, I think it was great from start to finish.
Pity about the Asguard, what an awesome race that was that are now gone, I was hoping we would see them maybe in the movies or Atlantis, but not any more.

I liked how the stories progressed for the characters, its just a pity that we didn't get anything between Vala and Daniel after they went back, would of been nice.

But oh well, I'll miss SG-1, I've watched from the very beginning, and was lucky enough to have Sky for the last episode before going to virgin.
Can't wait for the movies!

Only real mute points for me was the Asgards going.

Atlantis most likely had the means to save them. Yet we've never seen or heard about Asgard being in Atlantis to study it's sytems & database.

Then there is the ascension machine in Atlantis or another one of the headsuckers out there in the MW. Where someone can get really advanced, find the cure then have the Asgard remove it.

Not to mention the fact that in 'New Order' they had at least half a dozen O'Neill warships. Probably a few old Beliskner's, not to mention the DJ class science vessels.

If your going to give them everything, then I can't think of a better way to give them those ships in order for them to start up their own fleet. That way, they can take the Asgard ship, then install the human parts onto it afterwards.

I think that is a bit of a letdown, they gave all their knowledge including weapons, time dilation fields & all the rest. Hence, I cannot fathom why they never gave them any ships.

Hopefully in one of the next batch of movies after the 1st two are done. They can somehow use the TJ from Atlnatis, go back in time, then reverse the process.

Of course having the foresight like SG-1 in 'Unending' where they keep crystals with all the knowledge. This way when they reverse the Asgards fate & save them for the last time. They will still have all the knowledge, just incase the Asgard don't be as generous with the tech once they've been saved.

Perhaps it's time for a petition for one of the movie's, 'Save the Asgards'!

On another note, I hope what's happened in SG-1 will translate over to Atlantis. I think it'd be silly to have them in the MW with all this tech & knowledge, while in Pegasus the 304's are still getting their asses kicked each time with missiles & rail guns.

So many things left unfinished and unanswered I don't know where to start. I guess the only good thing about this ending is that in the fictional stargate reality the SG-1 team continue to go on missions and adventures saving the world just as they did the last 10 years. (we just wont be watching it happen :( )
I dont want to be negative but I dont know how people can feel satisfied with this ending. There has been a two parter with all the other series finale's, why not this one, the very last episode ever?
I think they could have planned it better and created a spectacular ending with the ori, ancients, Baal, asgard, O'niel, tok'ra and everything else we wanted to see in the finale. Put all this in the final episodes leading to some great victory for SG-1/Earth that would have brought the 10 seasons of this great program to an end.

We'll have to wait for Atlantis season 4 to see what happens in the milky way galaxy from now on. I expect we'll hear random reports while watching Atlantis...something like the war with the ori is ongoing, but it wont be the same.

Well I don't know how they tracked us using the azgard tech, but the ori must still be alive and telling the ships their location. LOVING the new weapon technology nice to finally have a weapon capable of destorying ori m otherships. :thoranime01: Bye Bye Azgard you'll be missed :thoranime01:

i like how they now level the human and ori tech level. both side can take five hits before the shield disappear.

at least it was the final shot! definately a good shot to finish with!

In my opinion, one of the best (in the top 3) epsisodes ever.

Loved the oddy getting its upgrades. Can only hope that our other ships get similar systems on board because weapon and shield wise, we kicked some major ass! Finally an end to threads like, "Wheres the phasers?" "When we guna get Lasers?". Anyone not happy with destroying an Ori ship in a few shots is crazy lol!

Although I don't really go for the whole romance thing on SG-1, I'll admit seeing Vala and Danny togather did make me smile, simply because it's been a long time coming. Teal'c made me laugh also with that one odd patch of grey hair on the side of his head lol.

As for the Asgard, where would Earth be without our grey friends? They gave us their legacy, and gave us their blessing because now, after all these years of waiting, are finally reckognised as, "The Fifth Race" of the Alliance of great races. They will be missed so so greatly.

The end of the ep was great. When they all said "indeed" it was fantastic. And as they walked up the ramp I wondered back to the first season and saw how far we as a race had come. From newbies of the galaxy, to the Fifth Race of Superpowers. From the 1st time we studdied a staff weapon to the fleet of our very own space ships we now own. Its been awesome!

So overall, I really loved the episode, really loved the season, and finally, really loved SG-1, full stop.

Oh and was I the only one that sat there after it finished, for a min or two in quiet thought, knowing that after all this time it was over?

I know we have the movies coming up so its no quite "over over". But you know what i mean :)

It's been a fantastic, amazing, and unforgetable ride :jack: :tealc: :sam: :daniel: :cameron: :vala: :jonas:

Actually - I never even thought of that, it's a really good point. It is odd that the whole last ever ep was on a ship. Though Mitchell did say at the end that the Stargate is how they should be travelling.

Oh, and I forgot about this earlier on - Daniel on how they tell thew Asgard apart - 'the voice' LOL!

Well someone (Landry I think) said they were going to be working on reproducing the technology, but it will probably take them a long time because:

With that technology the Wraith don't stand a chance

That would make things less interesting on SGA wouldn't it. Or maybe it would 'shake things up.' I never know.

Unless, they find a way to replicate the tech, no. Maybe Sam can use the Asgard beam tech to replicate the tech the same way they used it to make food.

Also, I wonder how effective this tech will be against the Asurans?

LOL Hermiod is going to be really pissed when he finds out. I haven't seen the ep but from what I've read too much stuff happened in 45 minutes. I mean the asgard exploded in the first 15 minutes, how can there possibly be enough closure and preparation for that? I'd expect something like that to have a whole episode or maybe even a two-parter dedicated to it, but 15 minutes?

For me, this has to be one of the worst eps ever and such a waste to the end of the series.

They just had to throw in the D/V ship, didn't they, it made me cringe, I'm sorry but IMO it just felt so wrong. Can't believe I'm saying this because I am anti all shipping onscreen but S/J never had anything on this.

And I can't forgive them for killing off the Asgard, how could they kill off Thor? And not ever mentioning Jack, well maybe that doesn't suprise me.

To be honest I really didn't care about what the team were like over 50 years, it just felt like such a waste of a final ever ep. RIP SG1

well i think this has set us up nicely for the final push against the Ori in the first moive, and for the 3rd series, Earth with decent advanced techonology but from an angle no one (to my knowleage) has done: We have been given all this tech and we need to learn how to use it rather than have developed it ourselves.

Speaking of... how annoying was that constant sodding multi-start button that Sky whacked across the screen?! It was really bugging me - it was big enough to be blocking out parts of people's faces in some scenes and it stayed for the whole darn ep. Talk about annoying!!

Haven't seen it yet but would probably feel the same. From what I read it makes the finale soapish :( I didn't mind them killing off the tollans because they were arrogant, but the azgard shouldn't have died. the Asguard relied upon technology to prolong their life and thus became dependant on it.

the Ancients used soul and spirit to prolong their life and lost the ability to affect things in their galaxy whereas the asguard could help protect it.

neither are good ways to exist in my opinion, you need a balance, which is why both races pretty much got what was coming to them

Vala,

Very effective, they said they gave us all of their tech, we just down load the schematics for their planetary wide anti replicator weapon and bang the asuran are no longer a threat and the wraith are no longer a threat any more, and bit bug swating to do should not take that long and we be the most dominate power in the galaxy.

come their got to be some kind of catch, I mean come as soon earth replic the asgaurd replicators we be turning out 304 in no time, the wraith the asuran and even the ori will soon be no threat to us.

So I just waiting the writers to tell us what the catch is. Perhaps they left their power supply out of their little give.

does this mean, stargate: look at how our Asgard tech will ensure we can kick anyones boney little butt with our big honking space beams (granted that probably wouldn't fit on screen!)

Have faith, each season of sg-1 has always had its critics prior to being aired, yet it always improves and finds a way to captivate the new audiences and its existing fan base. I'm still gutted the series has ended but looking forward to the films! (and Atlantis and the new spin-off).

That could be interesting but knowing how Ancients love tea more than doing some good i doubt it :P.

yeah it was good, certainly better than some other shows last eps, but it was no where near the best episode of SG1.
cam going slightly bandy was good but i wish they had made more of it, was wondering why they didn't have a two parter for their last ep and i know in the context of the story this is ridiculous but.... no O'Neill, i was honestly disapointed by that.
RIP Asgard, thanks for the memories, haha:thor:

i thought the whole affair was slightly morbid but not in a bad way, it was different and better off for it IMO
Teal'c though once again stole the show,
was it just me or did anyone else think his last :indeed: was infused with the weight of all the years he had lived on that ship? at least thats how i saw it.

good stuff, why wasn't the rest of season ten like that!

Sadly I know for a fact that I'm not going to enjoy this episode. I can't stand Daniel and Vala joined at the hip so often as it is so the idea of watching a whole bunch of scenes where they're a couple turns me completely off. I just don't find it believable or interesting. Then they just had to kill the Asgard because of course they can't end a season without killing off a race or character that has been there from the early seasons. It's like a retread of Moebius but worse complete with re-setting it so everything that happened doesn't mean anything anyway since Teal'c is the only one who remembers.

Its strange that the asgard ship in camelot got its butt handed to it but the weapon on the oddysee wasted it within 3 shots

Actually it never showed what happened to that Asgard ship. I personally feel that with all this new technology the Stargate program has to go public. Amongst all that stuff is the cure to world hunger, the end to the fossil fuel problem and an unparralleled wealth of genetics which could cure so many diseases. setting aside the fact that it is soooo morally right to share this tech with the rest of the world there is far too much for just the people of the SGC to go through it looking for stuff. They need much more people in on it.

Was it really necessary to kill off the entire Asgard race? Although this being sci-fi, there is always a chance of them re-appearing in some capacity or another: kind of makes the replicator war seem a bit pointless if they were all terminally ill anyway, regardless, their civilisation lived to see the destruction of the replicators, the fall of the system lords, and the rise of the T'auri as the fifth great race (and it really did send shivers down my spine when Thor told Carter that we were now connsidered to be the Fifth race). Pity about Teal'c, I wonder if he will dye out that grey steak or go for the wise elder look lol.

As for the Asgard database, I'd imagine that it will take several generations to unfold and understand: there is a big difference between knowing how to operate a piece of technology, and knowing how to build it.

But...FINALLY... ENERGY WEAPONS FOR EARTH SHIPS! DIE HA'TAKS! DIE ORI MOTHERSHIPS! DIE WRAITH HIVE SHIPS! NO MORE CRAPPY MISSILES, IT'S ASGARD WEAPONS ALL THE WAY FROM NOW ON!

Wow! What an amazing episode!!! One of the best ever, if not the best. Daniel and Vala got together, I didn't think tptb would go there in a million years, but they did. Not an AU either, as it really happened and Teal'c remembers it.

A great story some wonderful team moments, I loved them all sitting around the table at various times. Vala crying in Daniel's arms so sad, so touching.

I even,( and I can't believe I am going to say this but) I even liked Sam in this one.

I think I am now officially a Sam /Teal'c shipper!!

i'm actually looking forward to the third series, we might get something original now that earth is the new power in these here waters, were gonna need not just a continuation but an inovative use of the Stargate story and i hope thats what we get, but it's true that in the SGU Earth has always been the underdog and that has proved one of it's draws for me especially when compared to star trek.
and its looks as though that crazy Orisi b**ch is going to be taken care of in the first movie and that the undefeatable system lord is set to be defeated in the second, wrapping up all storylines and moving on, a good sign that there won't be too much crossover betwixt the new show and existing SG1 or Atlantis stories.
it's all conjecture i know but why not? :daniel:

^ vala and daniel really only plays a small part in the episode

Unfortunately for me I hate ship on the show and I've already been annoyed by the large amount of D/V in this season (and even Vala's episodes from last season) so even if the total amount isn't much, the fact that there are even numerous scenes ruins it for me. The content in those scenes also doesn't sound like it appeals to me since a lot of it seems horribly cliched and I just don't buy the romance. The only good I can see is that they forget it in the end but that also feels unoriginal to me due to Moebius.

I agree,
They killed off the most advanced race in the Universe and as another person said what about all their project such as Thor who the people on one of the planets thought was a god. What happens there also with the Asguard Treaty and the protected planets that screws up that blance. They could of made the ending of the asguard much better than "I must go now sam" Bang the planets gone its a bit too quick.

But I'm sure this will all be delt with in the movies. But at the start when the started kicking some ORI Butt that was amazing blue ray v orange I allways wondered why the asguard never thought about getting involved long before. If the asguard were around at the start of the ORI It would probably of ruined the plot but It was poor ending for the Azguard but Im sure this will be clarified or rectified in the movies or subsequent Series ((( Who knows )))

i liked this episode it was a fitting end to sg-1

there were several good things in this episode

landry being on the odyssey he looked good in that chair

landry's death so sad and so moving at the same time

carter hugging thor goodbye

the odyssey destroying the ori ships

old daniel towards the end of the episode looking like he did back at the beginning of sg-1

carter looking like her alternate reality counterpart from point of view

carter playing the chello

vala and daniel having sex

mitchell thrashing his quarters

the odyssey exploding and then coming back together

the entire scene where the music was playing

the christmas party in the mess hall

the only things that were out of place in this episode are

daniel's uncharacteristic outburst so not like him

no jack getting a chance to say goodbye to thor.

the asgard sacrificing themselves that was so surprising and unexpected

btw did anyone think that when the ori ship opened fire on the odyssey and
everything froze that the ancients had finally gotten off their asses and taken some action that's what i thought had happened until carter started talking about the time dialation device.

i have nothing against other ships - that aren't interfering with mine that is :p - but...

daniel/vala meant nothing to the sam/jack relationship, but man... they got total and complete ship in 2 friggin seasons, but sam/jack is STILL waiting on 10 bleepin years now...

other than that, the rest sounds rather depressing.

It was a great episode, really well done and lots of team. You will enjoy it, lots of Sam and she was rather good, God that almost stuck in my throat!!!

I agree with you, it does seem a little unfair that D/V get so much, fifty years together, kisses, bed scenes, hugs, lap sitting and S/J get...nothing...zilch after all these years. I am no shipper that's for sure, any ship, but it did stick even me as a tad unfair.

It was an amazing last episode though...watch and enjoy when you get the chance.

i imagine he will be sad when he hears about thor

they should include a scene in one of the movies where they tell jack about thor and then maybe have a memorial service for thor.

I don't think Jack being excluded was a bad thing. If anything, his involvement would have just been wrong because after seeing the episode, I don't see how he could worked well with what was going on. Carter and O'Neill may have ended up together, but I think that would only really appeal to the shippers. I have to admit i'm glad it didn't happen because the whole Carter/O'Neill will they/wont they is a dead horse that was just beaten too many times.

If anything, All that was needed would be

Carter: Have you told General O'Neill
Thor: Not yet/Yes/Soon/When you leave
Carter: Insert Appropriate Reply Here.

Thor and O'Neill were close, but not close enough he needed to be added.

Thor is my Favourite character and we final got to see him. He then decided to tell us he was killing himself and left without a goodbye (Suggesting he may appear again? hmmm) I all most cried at that point - especially the hug between Thor and Sam. I will miss him dearly.

As for the episode overall - Brilliant! I wanted to shoot Cam and the shippers would be happy with the Vala Daniel thing - I just wished we got to see the Asgard again.

Ohyeah - And we are OFFICIALLY the Fifth Race as declared by Thor! and have beam weaponry!!!!

I just watched the episode and I loved it. I have to say that I'm glad that TPTB finally went into the relationship thing on Stargate. It always seemed weird to me that there was never a clear focus on any kind of relationship on SG-1. I mean, 10 years and no relationships? :P It's why I loved Farscape, you had the beauty of a relationship and the kickass bit of pure sci-fi.

Plus I forgive TPTB now for not giving us some Sam/Jack lovin' ;)

I love Michael Shanks and I love love LOVE LOOOOVE Claudia Black, she's such a cool actress.

So many fond memories of Stargate SG-1. My most amazing one being that I met my boyfriend through our mutual love for the show :) And we are currently moving in together (he's from the UK, I'm from Holland) So I'm very grateful to the show in a way :)

Yeah, I did - even if he did feel that way, he's not normally so...mean! But then, he had been cooped up on that ship for a while, so it's understandable that he'd be suffering a bit from 'cabin fever'.

She said at the start of the 'three month' period that she was going to go insane and take him with her. He probably believed her in that.

In her first few eps in s8 and s9 she was merciless with the sexual teasing, and although she toned things down she never really stopped flirting with him, so he never had a chance to see that it had stopped being a game to her. He's spent the past two years being relatively stoic and patient as she (he thinks) taunts and toys with him; would he not have a right to defend himself from that when he thinks it's just her playing with his head?

I did like the scene, and how it suddenly turned when he saw that she was in earnest probably in earnest.

I agree with you, it does seem a little unfair that D/V get so much, fifty years together, kisses, bed scenes, hugs, lap sitting and S/J get...nothing...zilch after all these years. I am no shipper that's for sure, any ship, but it did stick even me as a tad unfair.

And to the S/J Shippers, it's not just unfair. It's just wrong. Thanks for your kind words. Sigh.

btw did anyone think that when the ori ship opened fire on the odyssey and
everything froze that the ancients had finally gotten off their asses and taken some action that's what i thought had happened until carter started talking about the time dialation device.

yep, my first thought aswell.

Yes. They go in, at the end. We don't see where they go to, but before they go Walter says Chevron One Engaged etc, and Landry says Godspeed, and various people say Indeed, then they walk up the ramp... into the event horizon.

Lovely ep, so many nice touches, and a perfect closing scene.

(It was smashing to be able to watch it with other GWers :D) :: waves at everyone who was at the pub ::

I liked the 'cello music, and the montages. V sad, v moving.

*waves back tiredly*......it was a wonderful evening and I thoroughly enjoyed the episode.....very poignant but also genuinely funny in places too......gave me warm fuzzies even though it dealt with certain aspects of "ship" that I'm not a follower of...;) .....all in all though, a thorougly enjoyable end to 10 great Seasons....:D

Oh and that damn camera decided to work completely fine when I got on the train.....

I took Mitchell's final comment about the Stargate being the way they should be travelling around the galaxy to indicate that TPTB might have realised that the number one reason in the decline of Stargate is the lack of actual use of the Stargate in Stargate! As ships became more and more accessible to SG-1, there were almost always a fall-back option, which ruined the concept... Hopefully the upcoming third series will mostly do away with ships in so far as a method of travel for the new team (if it is centred around a team, or whoever the "good guys" are if not).

Anyway, it was a nice episode. It would've been nice to have had Jack back for closure on the Asgard-Earth alliance. He did, after all, pretty much start the whole thing.

It's a shame there was no use of the Stargate other than the very final seconds when they walk through on yet another mission to save the galaxy.

Some good acting from Michael Shanks and Claudia Black in this one. We didn't really see what Teal'c got up to over the course of 50 years though.

Vala with the pigtails even when she's aged 50 more years = wrong. Just so very wrong...

All in all, a good episode. Didn't really like the final scenes, too much cheese even for SG-1. Although I suppose it had to end with everything back to perfectly normal in order for the movies to work.

Now it's time to start looking forward to the third series. Far more exited about that than SG-1 movies.

I've got to say this Series Finale (Unending) had a more sense of ending than the other "Series finales" (Revelations, Full Circle, Lost City, and Moebius). It was a good episode although I though there should've been a "Best of" Previously On... segment at the beginning (like they did with Farscape and Buffy's first Finale). This wasn't the best SG-1 series finale, Full Circle has that honor.

I hope Teal'c has hair all black again before "Arc of Truth" (or "Reunion") comes along. I give it a ***1/2.

This ep managed to p**s me off on so many levels its unbelievable. I realise Im in the minority here but cant help the way I feel. Dont get me wrong it was a good ep a side from the plotholes, continuity errors, and oh yeah killing off the frickin asgard. But I dont think it was worthy of being a season finale let alone the end of a series as good as SG1.
It was far too rushed in my opinion and Id of rather of lost certain eps of this season to make the series finale at least a two parter and a lot better in terms of time restraints and budget considerations.
Also not only was every thing reset but when further down the line, we likely once again lose all our new toys, this ep will become almost meaningless. It would have been better as an individual ep with in the season, a good ep on its own with out being the one to end the legacy, tie up loose ends (not that any were) and end a brilliant series.
As I've said in other threads I think something like reckoning would have been perfect.

After watching the last episode ever of SG-1, I feel a little let down.

The Asgard. Wow. Hello and goodbye. I feel a little short-changed. After all the Asgard story-lines through the years, it seems a little cheap to give them such a brief farwell. That whole "passing of the torch" could have and should have been a whole story in and of it's self. I felt ripped off that it was so glossed over. "We are dying, here's our stuff. Goodbye"

Daniel and Vala. I enjoyed seeing them finaly come together, but Daniel's rant just seemed so out of character for me. Their kiss bothered me a little as well. It didn't seem natural for either character, it almost felt a little forced.

Aside from those two complaints, there was one thing I really liked. Tealc.

I thought it was simply brilliant of the writers to allow Teal'c to age 50 years. It's a great way to avoid the "Data issue" from Star Trek.

Since Teal'c is supposed to be so long lived, it would have been awkward to see him look as aged as the rest of the cast in a movie 5 years from now (I'm an optimist, okay :D )

His aging at the same rate as the others will seem more natural this way.

Looking forward to the DVD's more than ever now.

Okay, I had massively spoiled myself by reading the Unending-is-airing thread, and then this thread up until two hours ago. But there were still so many scenes in there that hadn't really been mentioned that I don't regret reading anything beforehand, and I would do so again in hindsight.

1. When Thor was giving his goodbyes to Carter, it sounded like the producers were talking to us. ("If there was any hope in preserving the future, it lies with you and your people." and "Please do not be sad. The end of my people has been a long time coming. We have made to many irrevertable mistakes in our development. Hopefully, you can learn something from it.") Even if I'm just imagining that, that's the interpretation I'm going to stick to.

2. CCR on a space ship, great! I know what I'm gonna listen to in the next week. If I'll ever do another music vid, that's the song I'm going to use.

3. Wow, CB inline-skating. I remember when I first tried. After about a week, I still hadn't figured out how to put on the brakes. I just admire people who can inline-skate without breaking their neck.

4. Mitchell in the F-302. I had flashes to Crichton in his Farscape capsule.

5. The mistletoe kisses. If there are any Mitchell/Carter or Mitchell/Vala (Crichton/Aeryn) fans out there (I'm sure there are), that was a great nod to them without destroying the integrity of the characters, IMO.

6. Vala crying in Daniel's arms. I must admit that I preferred that scene more than the first-second kiss. It looked like Vala was cleaning up with her past and needed Daniel for that. Very touching scene.

7. The old-make-up looked better on film than on the screencaps (except for maybe Carter). I did not cringe as often as on "Brief Candle", but I still think the best old-make-up on Stargate was in "Before I Sleep".

8. I'm usually not the crybaby type, but I shed some tears in the end. The realisation that it's all going to be over now (at least the regular part) is finally kicking in. I could have done with an 11th season, but I'm also very glad that there are going to be the direct-to-DVD movies. It makes the goodbye easier.

10/10 for the first 30 minutes, 7/10 for the last 15 minutes after the aging (the make-up just wasn't good enough to be believable, but at least this part was rather short compared to what I expected - good). So, all in all, probably a 9/10. Of all the (possible) series endings we've had, this one is up there with Lost City and Moebius. :)

I though that up until we saw them age it was probably the best episode ever, after that I think I'd downgrade it to 'great'. Still overall an amazing send off, much better than I thought it would be, but the final scenes didn't do the rest of the ep justice imo.

It was very unfulfilling and abit boring. Don't get me wrong it's worth watching it has a very good story but I feel the great series that is Stargate SG1 went out so softly I think the whole thing ends in a whimper radar than a bang.

I'm more sad not because the show ended but specifically how they (writers) killed the Asguard so swiftly, considering multiple episodes concerning their gene manipulation - I mean, give them a break, the Asguard were already giving Tauri technology far beyond their present capabilities. I guess, this all fits well into fighting the Ori, because if Asguard did find some way in rectifying their predicament - it would've taken Earth too long to reach Asguard's level of technology (due to their reluctance to give advance technology to lower races) - BUT, even taking that into account, THAT WAS A TERRIBLE WAY OF SENDING THEM OFF! Thor:"Hi, we're dying, we will give you everything that you shouldn't have, now, goodbye. *Thor beams off and activates gigantic bomb* BOOOOOMMM! WTF?:mckay:

EDIT: The fact that the Asguard were dying (which I knew well in advance) and wished their legacy to survive, even going so far as to bequeath all their knowledge to Earth, who are far less advanced than they were, should've been done in a much more tactful manner than to simply blow their entire planet apart into smithereens. It gives the Asguard no justice in their long stint in the SG universe. However, I do see how exploding their planet would remove any danger of the Ori getting any information from any data storages on Orilla. The biggest problem is that it was too abrupt for viewers to grasp that the affable Asguard would die in a blaze of glory, but I guess the Asguard didn't want to see the end result of the genetic disease - but, if this was the writers' idea of passing the torch, they fell very short in terms of a smooth transition, but overall, the episode is great.

Vala_M
March 13th, 2007, 08:52 PM
I agree,
They killed off the most advanced race in the Universe and as another person said what about all their project such as Thor who the people on one of the planets thought was a god.

In regards to their projects, they still have the "smart" hologram technology and that has always worked in the past with the primitives so I guess that will suffice unless they told Earth how to pick up on those projects, since they essentially gave Earth everything.
