Sci-Fi writers are obsessed about the name John

    They really are.

    I mean, look at this.

    SG-1 : John 'Jack' O'Neill.
    Atlantis: John Sheppard.
    Farscape: John Crichton.
    ST-Enterprise: John Archer.

    Move on, please !

I don't think it's just a Sci-fi thing. I thing the name John is just common in general. Also i guess John is the first name that comes into people's head. Like if most people give an example they pick names like John Smith or John Doe.

I guess John is one of those you hear everywhere...like Jenny

You forgot John Doe, John Doggett and John Loengard!

Yes, there are too many Johns.

ETA: There are actually three Johns in Farscape. TJohn, MJohn and John "Jack" Robert Crichton Sr.

It is just a common name as you mention. It seems John is in every family past and present.

My father's name was John, so I like the name.

In 14th century Devon 60% of the male population were named John.

Surnames caught on faster in Devon than in the rest of England....

If you count Alias as sci-fi, which it has been noted as lately, there's Jack (Jonathon) Bristow.

The Pope visited Ireland in '79 (I think...) and now if you meet a man named John-Paul here it's almost certain he's 25 years old

John Smith of Dead Zone has also been forgotten.
