I cave in. After waiting a day since our very own Heroes forum, I just have to start this thread for one of my fave heroes - Peter Petrelli. All we know thus far is that he is a caregiver, empathetic and willing to believe that he was "meant for something greater." At the moment, there's still lots of speculation about the extent of his powers: Is he an empath, e.g. the dream-connection he has with Nathan and Simone's dad? Does he just borrow one power or multiple powers at a time? Will it ever be permanent? What'll cause him to get the scar that future!Hiro mentioned (*does* he still get it)? What's his and Hiro's role among the other Heroes, given that Hiro specifically went back to look for him? What'll happen given teasers that Chris Eccleston will be Peter's mentor; Peter is overwhelmed by others' powers that he goes into a dream-state coma about the Manhattan nuke; and the dynamic between Nathan and Peter gets tighter, more intense, with revealing familial bonds (per Adrian's interview) post-Homecoming?
In the show, Peter's played by Milo Ventimiglia - who I'd never heard of and had only seen before in ads with Apple (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaQBMwgumH8&eurl=), Pepsi (Mountain Dew) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqq_TVDrO8Q) and Chrsyler (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NavqIfohGi8). That's changed since then ;) If anyone wants a refresher, I recently posted photos, articles and clips about Milo's journey from the Gilmore Girls to Heroes in my LJ - LINKED HERE (http://balikpulang.livejournal.com/11451.html).

Squee and speculate away!

I have a feeling he's going to be the leader of the group. Considerimg he can borrow power from others cough "Rouge" cough, it be interisting wheather he can actually manifest multiple powers if others were around all at once, which concludes to a very useful and powerful asset. Plus this would make him a little bit more unique to Rouge from the X-men.

Yes, kinda like Rogue in X-Men. At least he can touch others without absorbing everything when "borrowing." I'd also heard about the Synch (Marvel) (http://www.marvel.com/universe/Synch) likeness too... esp. if Peter gets to permanently retain them. Not sure how this explains the dreams though.

Couple of nice new Access Hollywood interviews - Non-spoilery if you've seen up to Ep 9 (Homecoming):
1) Interview with Milo about his role, the cast and show
http://video.accesshollywood.com/player/?id=47585
- There's a funny joke and teeny teaser about his "scar" and hair
- Also, he says the Heroes cast has one the most talented and egoless pepole. Awww.

2) Peter and Claire behind the scenes for Ep 9 (Homecoming)

Maybe the dreams are just dreams... unless dream kid is giving him the dreams so he can acknowledge his power and use it.

I'd been digging the whole Petrelli family dynamic - and Ep 10 (6 Months Back) made it even more sweet. Just read a real funny and somewhat spoilery interview between Adrian (Nathan Petrelli) and Kristin from E-Online where he talks about his own (real life) emerging friendship with Milo, how his son, wife and her other Dixie Chicks are all Heroes fans, Nathan's character arc and evolving relationships with Peter and Jessica/Niki. He also teases us about the upcoming "death" in Ep 11 (Fallout) - and I'll say this: It's not going to be him! Interview linked here (http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/blog/index.jsp?uuid=2b9f37a0-8637-49e3-9c70-1f061f7665f0).

PS: OK, this is only somewhat related to Peter/Milo but it was his initial conflicted sibling relationship with Nathan/Adrian that made me start liking him in the first place. They're not as interesting without snarkin' and touchin' each other (and I meant that in a nice Italian family way, get your minds out of the gutter y'all)!

Heh... didn't know that Adrian Pasdar was married to Natalie of Dixie Chicks. Not that I'm a fan of the band but they were touring Down Under recently.

Whoever thought of putting Adrian and Milo together as siblings is a genius. Their chemistry works. I really liked how the most recent episode brought that to light to a greater degree.

Does anyone know where Milo's antecedents are from? Italy? Eastern Europe?

Sicilian descent on his dad's side and a mix of Irish, English, Scottish, French, Cherokee, and Indian descent on his mom's. Wikipedia is amazing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_Ventimiglia).

I am - and was full of glee to see my interests collide! Evidently, the Dixie Chicks and Heroes love is mutual. Some of the heroes (Greg, Hayden, Masi, Milo and Adrian) went to their LA concert this past week.

Judging from the latest TV.com behind the set interviews and clips, added to Peter's dreams of himself, Nathan and Simone's dad, Charles in previous eps, I suspect Peter's dreams do foretell the future, but in the same "incomplete" way as Isaac's art. Peter evidently can dream about what he wants or thinks of most. Since his biggest desire now is to save the world and his only clue is Isaac's painting of the nuke, my theory is that's why he "dreams" up that scene in Manhattan while in a power-overload coma. I didn't see the boy Sanjog Iyer around though. I guess India's a little far.... ;)

I noticed that the amazing Wikipedia also mentioned that Milo is slated to play Rocky Jr in yet another Rocky film...
I can see it... ;)

I hope this Rocky is better than the recent painful reincarnations. If you're interested, there's a few interviews with Milo on Rocky Balboa here in my LJ ( http://balikpulang.livejournal.com/11451.html) (scroll down to the Coming Soon part). BTW, Milo compares all his main acting roles in this goofy article on the LA Times (spoiler for size - no idea how to reduce pic sizes here)

Oh no no no.... I go away on an overseas trip for a few days and find the Peter/Milo thread relegated to page 2? Come on, Heroes fans, I know at least 23% of you think Peter's your fave hero so where's the squee-ing over his scenes, picspams, spoilers and way out there theories?!

Anyways, first a Milo blurb: Watch out for two of Milo's non-Heroes movies this December: Rocky Balboa (which by all accounts, is more like the first and not at all like the latest - which is good news) and Intelligence (a politically-charged independent film on prisoner abuse). I've posted video clips/trailers in my LJ here (http://balikpulang.livejournal.com/17569.html).

On to more thoughts on Peter: Check out NBC's latest graphic novel (http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novel_012.shtml) -- on Peter Petrelli! A bit surreal - but still, it reinforces the internal conflict and intrigue about Peter's arc. After watching Fallout and repeats of all the episodes these past few days, it strikes me that Peter - in his desire to be heroic and self-sacrificing - is not so different from his brother, Nathan or Gabriel/Sylar in that he too has his own selfish motives in believing that he's "meant to do something .... extraordinary". But in the end, our caregiver hospice nurse not only encounters and survives death himself, but is potentially responsible for bringing it upon those he seeks to save. Or so we think.

Contrast this last image of Peter with Isaac's exploding man painting below: (cut for size)

Movieweb interview with Milo where he talks about Heroes and Rocky Balboa - http://www.movieweb.com/news/88/16388.php

Here are the fun Heroes snippets:
What kind of relationship did you and Sylvester have?
Milo Ventimiglia: .... He and I still touch base. I found out he was a fan of Heroes. That's kind of an amazing thing, when you look up to someone for so many years and they're actually following what you're doing. That's really a nice thing to know.

Were you surprised at how well Heroes has done?
Milo Ventimiglia: If I was to say I was surprised at how well the show was doing I'd probably look like an idiot. From day one of reading the script Heroes blew me away. The twists and turns, the characters, the drama that they build, I was really blown away by it. Add everything else, the writers and the production team... it really has grown into this wonderful world. It does stretch across an American influence and an American appreciation. I hear about people in Europe, Australia and Asia looking forward to the show, having seen bits and pieces of it...

As for what's coming up? If you were blown away by what you saw in the first half of the season you're really gonna be blown away by the second half. It's going to be even more hold your breath television.

Are there any of the actors on Heroes that you'd like to work with that you haven't got a chance to yet?
Milo Ventimiglia: You know what... Leonard Roberts, Ali Larter, I've pretty much worked with everybody else. That was the nice thing about my character. I haven't worked with Ali, Leonard or Noah, yet.

I don't know if I want to watch Rocky Balboa. Apparently it's going to suck. Not to mention I don't exactly want to see Stallone in another Rocky film. But considering Milo's in it, I just might.

Well, whether or not we go to watch Milo in Rocky Balboa, we know quite a few of the Heroes cast showed up for the show's World Premiere on Dec 13. USA Today print edition - fun teasing about Hayden and Masi at the end:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-12-18-milo-ventimiglia_x.htm?POE=LIFISVA
By William Keck, USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES Steeped in vintage Scarface machismo, Milo Ventimiglia enters the lobby of a refurbished Culver City hotel.

A fedora is pulled down over one eye, and three days' worth of stubble toughen up his baby face. The actor who plays Rocky's son on the big screen and one of NBC's Heroes on the small peels off a buttoned-up black sweater to reveal a tattooed star peeking out from under a tight-fitting white tee.

All that's missing: a toy machine gun?

It seems at times that the 29-year-old Italian-American raised in Orange County, Calif., has left his lovable character Peter Petrelli from Heroes behind and totally absorbed a tough-guy persona befitting Rocky Balboa, in theaters Wednesday.

At others, he's just a charming guy having a lot of fun playing Hollywood. He can't hold back his excitement when his publicist arrives bearing the gift of a giant Rocky Balboa poster.

When Ventimiglia takes off the hat, thick dark hair flops over his eyes he calls it "comic book hair" just as it does on his hit TV drama.

For his role as Rocky's corporate-tool son, he says he slicked back his locks into "a bad 1994" Wall Street do.

Admirers will take it either way, as Heroes co-star Masi Oka raves: "Milo could be bald, and he'd still be handsome."

But Ventimiglia, who breezily peppers his dialogue with four-letter words to emphasize his passions, does not want to be known for his perfections. He confides that he has two other tattoos, on his leg and shoulder, and plans to get more. And he is quick to point out a birth defect: his self-described "crooked" mouth, which he explains as dead nerves causing his lower lip to lie limp.

"It's so cute," Heroes co-star Hayden Panettiere says. "It's a flaw, and I hate perfection more than anything in the world."

Stallone also noted the flaw, similar to his own lip. Slipping into a flawless Stallone imitation, Ventimiglia recalls the actor's words to the casting director during their first encounter: "Thuh lip it evun hooks down like mine."

Says Stallone: "I thought if Rocky and Adrian had a child, (Milo) would be a perfect offspring. He sort of resembles her and (looks like) he'd be intimidated by Rocky."

Says Heroes' Jack Coleman: "He was born to play Rocky Jr. He looks like a chip off the old block. He's got a bit of the Italian rascal but is sweet and lovable, too."

Now, after making teen girls swoon on TV series American Dreams and Gilmore Girls, Ventimiglia longs to be known for his acting. He remembers being praised by a female instructor in a UCLA acting class after he freely dropped trou and undertrou for a sexually charged scene.

"I remember the teacher said, 'It was nice,' and I was like, 'Whaddaya mean exactly?' "

Growing up with parents Peter and Carol and two older sisters, Ventimiglia rebelled at an early age. By 18, he had decided to reduce his alcohol consumption, and by 22, he had given up booze entirely.

But the actor says he has yet to get his temper in check.

He delights in relating a run-in he had two months ago with two police officers who had stopped him for trespassing in downtown Los Angeles. When he asked to see their identification, Ventimiglia says, he was turned around, patted down and ended up in criminal court alongside guys "shuffling around in orange jumpsuits."

He says, "I don't like people forcing authority on me." And he remembers taking to heart the words of a mentor: "When you fight, there's no rules. You bite their nose; you rip their ear off. You go for blood."

So maybe the tough-guy act is no act?

Not according to Panettiere, who calls her fellow TV hero "humble" and unaffected by show business. His character on the NBC series is a nurse, and some of those caregiver qualities might not be such a stretch for him.

"He's like the big brother," she says. "He'll always raise an eye when he passes to let me know he's watching, and that makes me laugh."

Asked what he finds attractive about Panettiere, Ventimiglia jokes, "Ask me Aug. 21 (when Panettiere turns 18), and I'll tell you a zillion things."

Eight months ago, he and Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel ended a long-term relationship. He finds it "interesting" being single in Los Angeles with "so many people trying to break into the business."

Reminded that Britney Spears is back on the market, he smirks. "I met her once, a long time ago. Nice girl," he says. "I'm sure she's still nice with two kids."

There's been lots of interviews on Milo in the wake of Rocky Balboa's premiere and the growing popularity of Heroes. Speaking of which, Rocky has received surprisingly positive reviews (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rocky_balboa/) - even from skeptical viewers and critics. I just might check it out over Christmas!

Here are two of the better ones that anyone interested in Milo / Peter might appreciate:
Video interview (http://youtube.com/watch?v=DeGuhwi09dc) - talks about Heroes and Rocky Balboa
Feature in Player Magazine (http://www.fanforum.com/f168/milo-news-all-milo-media-news-thread-first-post-updated-december-24-a-62786011/index14.html) - talks about his approach to acting, his own production company, and interest in directing and photography

As always, you can read more about Milo back in my LJ here (http://balikpulang.livejournal.com/tag/milo+ventimiglia).

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, y'all!
