    STARGATE SG-1 - "Covenant"

    Review:

Opening up with one Mr. Alec Colson - in his secret identity of Tony Stark by way of Chuck Norris with an acting coach - going about his hectic day as a billionaire industrialist. While his aid, Brian Vogler (Vogel?) seems absolutely in fits, Colson doesn't seem much worried. It's only a press conference, right?

    **snippity doo-dah**

As much as I don't want to deny character development for Carter, this is the sort of episode where Tapping just puts everyone else to shame. Carter's a complex woman. While some of it could be O'Neill's rogue-ish influence, she's more than willing to think past the rules to get to the solution. I think for the most part it's the scientist in her being allowed to breathe, given that the weight of the universe now rests on her shoulders. The honest truth is that if the writers can't figure out a way to make her work as a leader, season eight SHOULD be the last. I think, however, with this episode and some hints from really the entire run, she has the potential. Above everyone else in the cast, I'm looking at her development most, because the rest of the show's run will have to rely on her. I know Daniel and Teal'c both trust her leadership, but so far we've only been told that. The season so far has done little to showcase her, but this episode is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, very soon we get to really see her in action, calling the shots under fire, and making it work.

While not a great episode by any stretch, it stands above the lackluster episodes of the season (Affinity and Icon).

    Quotes:

Colson: "Now that would be irony! You secretly save the world only to have us destroy it out of fear after the fact."

Carter: "He who fights and runs away."
Colson: "Lives to fight another day. And no one will ever know."
    Carter: "Welcome to my world."

Next Episode - "Sacrifices" Teal'c's son, Rya'c, is getting married, but the festivities are interrupted when Ishta (Jolene Blaylock) returns, with the Goa'uld Moloc on her heels.
