Why Does Sheppard Like Tea?

Something that has always bugged me... Sheppard apparently likes tea. And it's one of those things that normally wouldn't... but does indeed bug me...

Don't know how I got the strange indication that he likes tea? Just a few quotes that I shall recite.

"Each morning before dawn, our people drink a cup of stout tea to brace us for the coming day. Would you like to join us?"
"I love a good cup of tea, that's another thing you know about me now."

Frankly, Sheppard doesn't seem like the kind of person who would... heh heh... like tea...

So... that's two questions that are trivial yet which bug me...

Does he really like tea?
Why does he like tea?

In a fic I wrote it was because his grandmother was English and he lived with her while his Stern Air Force Colonel dad was posted overseas.

I really don't think tea is important to him. In both cases, it was an invitation to stay and negotiate. His saying he like tea was just him being friendly and trying to create a sense of friendship - whether or not he likes tea was completely irrelevent.

Stereotypically, and I don't much like stereotypes, Sheppard just... wouldn't be the kind of a person who would like... tea. Let's put it this way...

I dunno... does that make any sense?

I suppose I like the "to open up negotiations" explaination best.
