Baby Bang experiment could open door to new dimension

Wow, this sure looks like SCIFI. I am just a little scared about the black holes, seems too risky

    * They estimate the possibility of accidentally destroying the planet as extremely low.
Well I hope their estimates are right, I'd hate to have Earth destroyed, it's where I keep all my stuff! Seriously though I wouldn't be worried about the mini black holes, chances are they'll evaporate within seconds and pose no danger to anyone.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing-Edmund Burke

The question which once haunted my being has been answered. The future is not fixed, and my choices are my own... and yet, how ironic! For I now find, I have no choice at all! I am warrior... let the battle be joined.-Dinobot-Code of Hero

you know that story sounds familiar.
Last week there was a documantary about this.
And some poeple sad that if they create a black hole those people don't care about the consequenses.
Iff they blow up our little earth
only thing what i am going to say is something like.
I don't wanna tell ya i told ya so butt i told ya so.

          Cool..!
The success or failure of your deeds, does not add up to the sum of your life. Your spirit cannot be weighed! Judge yourself by the intentions of your actions, and by the strength with which you faced the challenges that have stood in your way. The Universe is so vast, and we are so small, there is only truly one thing we can control; whether we are good or evil... -Oma Desala

They need to weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before they do the experiment.

Does anyone else think this might lead to a real-life ZPM?
You look but you do not see. You listen but you do not hear. You cannot accept us, but we are here to stay. You think we are just a shadow, a bad memory that will go away if you ignore us long enough but we won't.

We are human too whether you like it or not. We are here and our time is now. Together we can only soar. We will remain strong forever more, and nothing can quell our pride.

Im not actually this could be huge, the biggest innvoation in sceince's understanding of the universe since, well ever i geuss. Hubble and the space shuttle will pale if this get what its aimed at. also the ZPM and black hole power generation is a completely seperate thing, i nkow, ive had black hole power thuroughly explained by Sea! confusing but a great convo! it could mean that we gain a truely unlimited power sources though.

27KM? wow that is one hell of a PA, where are they getting the energy, a new fusion reactor 129KM long?!

They dont. They are calculating the chance for error mathematically, which doesn't mean much to me. For one thing, they could get drastically different results then the mathematics predicts.

                        Destroy the Earth?*snort* Uhmmm...yeah, whatever.

Guys...seriously...don't let the media hype get to you...even if they do manage to create a black hole it will be infinitesimally small and thanks to Hawking radiation, exceedingly shortlived...they'll be lucky to detect it before it ceases to exist.

Anyone remember the media freak-out over the experiments done at Brookhaven a few years ago? Well, last I checked the world is still here

Isn't it nearing election time? That would explain why the media is getting so worked up.

Anyway, I wouldn't be that worried about the experiments on Earth. Those mini-black holes also appear and dissapear in nature and have probably appeared on Earth long before we tried to create them.

Pretty much the same thing that they're doing at CERN...just with a little less power...a few links some good...and to put things in perspective, some paranoid.

If you want more info, Google "Brookhaven + black holes"

As much as some would like to believe...it is just not physically possible for humans to destroy this planet...render it incapable of supporting life yes. Destroy it with a black hole? Only on Tabloid front pages and the Scifi Channel

For anyone who's still worried about that 1 in 10 to the whatever chance... collisions like this happen all the time in Outer Space and in the upper regions of the atmosphere. We are still here. The Earth is still here.

Also, just remember, thanks to Chaos Theory, there is a minuscle chance that the next time you pass gas you will cause a global superstorm that could wipe out human civilization. I predict though that you will not try and hold it in though
