Han Solo?? How is he still here? Yeah, yeah, I know I haven't been voting for him either but should have now that I think about it. I think this is the most difficult tourney we've had so far. But how is he different from Malcolm Reynolds? They are both renagade space pirates esentially and neither one is any more heroic than the other, imo. I'm just kind of sad that John Crichton is about to go before Han goes. I know Crichton got more chances for character development than Han, but still..... John is not a perfect person which is what make him interesting and he got rather dark in season 4 and in Peacekeeper Wars, but I find him a more interesting character than Han Solo and more heroic. He was such a human character with moments of weakness and strength. May not have done everthing for the right reasons (he could be quite selfish) or got the best results all the time, but he would also do anything for his friends and risked his life many times. Yeah, I know that sounds like Han as well, but Crichton was a more developed character, and well I just like him better.:P:)

Lonestar: As for Han Solo, he gets extra style and charisma points (just because), but mostly I've still had people I don't like or don't know to vote off. In most tourneys I participate in, the things I like usually get voted off before I get to them and I'm voting for characters/movies/etc I don't like up till the last round. :(

:D I wonder, do the films make you fall asleep? I saw the first one, and apart from the fireworks thing at the start, it was crap. Never felt so bored in my life, "lets walk around with a ring for 3 hours!", exciting :mckay: Watched the second one, being told it was "better", but the feelings of bordem returned after a few minutes into the film. As for the third one well, I had given up by now, but I went around my friend's house and he was watching it, but he made it interesting by hitting rewind when gollam (or whatever his name is, the one who looks like dobby), fell into the volcano (so he came back up), and hitting it again when they all bowed to frodo (so they all came back up :D). Other than that it was the most boring time of my life!

Me! Me! I don't remember Aragorn at all so that's why I didn't vote for him earlier. I had plenty of characters I really disliked left.

I have 2 friends who think it's the best thing in the world so when the 1st movie came to cable I sat down and prepared to be wowed and then the voice over at the beginning of the movie started. By the time it ended, I said "Oh brother" and was ready to turn off the tv. The whole premise just makes me want to laugh. I decided to give it a chance anyway, but after 20 minutes that was enough. I couldn't sit thru anymore.

Hm...in the book Aragorn is pretty heroic, doing everything he has to do for becoming king, a strong leader from the start you can figure very clear as future king.
In the movie he is...well...even a shadow of himself would be more, but the Aragorn in the movie is a dork, afflicted by doubts and so not kinglike.
When he got crowned he was just a disguised ranger in a pretty costume while in the book he was always a king disguised as ranger.
Its sad they screwed it so much.

John Crichton is GONE
Hadn't thought he would make it that far. :D
For me he is so not a hero, although he is my favourite character on TV.
A hero in a way must imo fight active for a higher purpose, care for more than himself and the ones close to him. John never did, in the whole series he gives a damn about what is going on in the galaxy he was thrown in, is not interested in politics, even not about the fact that the scarrans where ready to overrun the Pecekeeper territories. When he bites back its only out of desperation, because he can't run anymore and has no other options.

Yeah, Han is more charismatic than Mal, but I still don't see much of a difference between the two other than Han is a more classic character. Don't get me wrong I like the character. I like him way more than Skywalker, but we're not voting based on coolness.

The Doctor to go (Isn't he immortal basically?)

Is that for the tie breaker? If so, check above, there was one vote that came in just before my count.

As for the immortality, no, far from it. He can easily die, Dalek weapons can do it,and I would imagine Time Lords have the technology too. He can simply recover from things that humans would die from, gunshot wounds, falling from a great height, poisoning, radiation etc. but at the cost of a regeneration, of which he has a limited number. Its a common misconception :)

I didn't mean in here, I was wondering how long before Doctor Who has to end, so 3 more actors to play him, so let's say in around 15-20 they will air a big finale (let me guess, an armies of; Daleks, Cybermen and the peter kay aliens who eat people will attack Earth. But don't worry, the doctor will use his trusty screwdriver to defeat them! Or better yet his companion (Inara) will run down corridors of somesort trying to get away from an OTT alien/monster)

As to not clog up the post:
We need to sit you down with classic Who I would suggest:

The Caves of Androzani (though its more relevant when you know the 5th Doctor well)
Genesis of The Daleks
Inferno
Deadly Assassin
The Three Doctors, you have been turned away by the *******isation of the series by RTD, which, while good IMO, is nothing on the original. The Dalek obsession of RTD and the crew is rather annoying to me, the Cybermen were classics but they were dealt with awefully, and don't get me started on the Abzorbalof farce this year (worst episode EVER). The screwdriver is another annoyance, it was destroyed in the 5th Doctor's era for a reason, and RTD has shown that bloody well, by making that problem 1000 times worse than ever. The running doesn't translate so well into the new series, it was always a campy series, and it always will be (hopefully), but sci-fi is expected to be serious, so the scooby doo esque running is less enjoyed by the newer audience than the older ones.

The running doesn't translate so well into the new series, it was always a campy series, and it always will be (hopefully), but sci-fi is expected to be serious, so the scooby doo esque running is less enjoyed by the newer audience than the older ones.
Whoa! have you like seen all the Doctor Who eps? I'll try and watch some classic who, but I'm not making any promises. If it makes you feel any better, I hate "Doctor Who (2005)"!

The fact that he is likely to win shows that the category heading means little in these tournaments. This is a favorite character tournament. Hans has no special power, is not very heroic and nearly let everybody down on multiple occassions. He is a wonderful character, but a reluctant hero at best. He is a "I'll be a hero at the last minute" hero or a prodigal hero....

Voting off all 3 or keeping all 3?

I'd be just as happy if it was declared a 3 way tie now.

I'm just so happy something I liked finally won a tourney. And then to have it be my favorite just floors me. And this tourney is now ending with 3 characters I like - I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket.

I have to spread some rep around before I can give it to you again but I'd like it if you vote for either Luke or Obi Wan doesn't matter to me. (although really whichever one will keep Han around! :))

While Han may have been the reluctant hero in the 1st movie, I think he made up for it in the next two.

Luke I always thought of as a wanna be hero. He only joined the resistance because he wanted to fly ships and became a Jedi because of Obi Wan. He was a hero because he was in the right situations (kind of like Han :))

While I like Obi Wan, he kind of got left because I was stil voting of characters I didn't like or know or were blah. My opnion of him is based strictly on the original 3 movies and in those he was a good mentor and teacher but not necessarily heroic. At least not more heroic than the other 2.

So when given these 3 choices, the tiebreaker is who I like the most and then that's easy. Hans Olo all the way! :D

C-3PO: Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1.
Han Solo: Never tell me the odds.
-------------------------
Princess Leia: I hope you know what you're doing.
Han Solo: Yeah, me too.

And maybe my favorite

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men!
Han Solo: [leaning closer to her, murmurs] I'm nice men...

In order to delude myself to make this vote, I remind all the cynics that when Luke was in the ice cave hanging by his boots, Hans, with no special powers and NO hope of survival (or promise of payment) in the extreme cold, told his detractors that he would "SEE THEM IN HELL," ripped open the very smelly animal to provide warm guts for Luke to survive with, set up a base camp and saved the life of his friend!

Wow!

Luke on the other hand had to be goaded by Miss Piggy's voice to use the force and when he didn't think he could do it, he messed up his face in a car accident so he would look cool for return of the teddy bears and have that rugged Jedi face of courage look!

Cool!

The edge must go to the Ice man, Hans Solo, who later in the same movie, actually got frozen! But he really looked heroic frozen and let's face it, when it come to looking good, he's got it all over Quark, who also did some heroic things while hoping for payment, but isn't nearly as good looking !

In fact, Quark and Hans have a lot in common. Quark broke Kira out of jail and killed 2 Jem Hadar with 2 pistols in his hands, even though he was quite afraid.... Was Quark in this tourney? I can't remember.......

I hesitate to write in support of who I think is better--it seems like whenever I give an impassioned defense, that person or thing is promptly voted out. But I must admit I'm a bit disturbed at the things being written about Luke (who's not my favorite, but I think he's more of a hero than Han). I'm wondering if anyone saw all three movies he was in.

Luke started out as a naive, overly-enthusiastic, headstrong youth. Yet, by the end of the third movie, he had become a seasoned Jedi knight who saved his friends and the alliance (more than once, I might add). He wasn't looking for payment, he didn't get the girl, he lost his entire family (except for the sister he didn't know he had), but he didn't give up, he kept faith with his companions and allies.

He had a gift. Which he developed with hard work (Yoda didn't take it easy on him by any means) and deployed to save his friends and family as well as the galaxy--without looking for recompense. He started out with a thirst for adventure and ended up with the bitter loss of his father--although there was redemption and reconciliation.

Being young, having faith, seeing the job through, not being jaded or rakish--these are not reasons to toss Luke out as not being heroic. Look at the totality of his actions and the results of those actions. Look at what he did with the gifts and relationships he was given. I know a lot of people prefer Han--everyone likes a bad boy; but I think Luke is the better hero.

Luke Skywalker for the win. Han Solo to go.

Eh, I don't care. Obviously Han is going to win. Out of the two, I definitely like his character more plus it's Harrison Ford *drool* for pete's sake, a man's man when it comes to many of his movie roles, but that wasn't how I was supposed to be judging this tourney.... Can we have Indy back? I want him to win instead or Sam Beckett or….Mal Reynolds (cuz I'm still not seeing the difference between he and Han :P)

We just need a tourney to vote on our favorite sci-fi/fantasy character, friend or foe. Period. Something with not too much thinking involved cuz this one was taxing. :D
