Which one was Eowyn? Was that the girl? I read the book and saw the movies, but I have trouble keeping all the names straight.


She is Lady Eowyn (the beautiful blond) Shieldmaiden of Rohan who had the hots for (the most gorgeous) Aragorn - heir to be King of Gondor (king of men) who was in love with Arwen (the beautiful elf daughter of Elrond). Ahhh and the plots thickens but I digress -- anyways there was a bit of ST betwixt The Lady and King to be -- hmm again i digress -- she was hot with the sword and not afraid of anyone or anything and i found her quite inspirational and a leader for her people and the scene where her uncle (who i always mixed up for dad) died was quite touching (especially when she killed the big ugly evil dude) but she definitely was more heroic than some of those who still remain!!! *sigh*

For those of you who have not seen Babylon 5, I offer this short defense of Sheridan and Delenn as Heroes. Both these characters were written to illustrate both heroism and myth. JMS, who wrote the series wanted to illustrate the power and impact of the individual who stands in the breach of galactic events colliding and turns the course of history. Sheridan had to abandon his loyalty to his profession, those who taught him and his own home planet to stand against the megalomania of a dictator and the power of a dark and ancient enemy. He brought together, along with Delenn's help, dozens of races and planets to fight these two enemies. Delenn is written as a very powerful, religious, alien icon who stands against the flow of dark forces. Her qualities include profound compassion, bravery in the face of death, a willingness to put herself firmly in the path of danger, inclduing threats of death from her own people for uniting with the humans.

The history of Sheridan and Delenn becomes myth as they are venerated by future generations and become elevated to saint status by succeeding generations. They created a peace that lasted for hundreds of years, united the peoples of their generation and literally saved the lives of billions.

I'd say Kirk went above and beyond the call of duty many, many times. He's sacrificed a lot--loved ones, respected colleagues, careers, emotional trauma; name it! Yet he still goes on and does what he does best. There's a difference between just doing your job and being a hero and Captain Kirk is the perfect example of it.

(I love Kirk. I never realized how funny he was until rewatching the shows as an adult. He was like a regular person with friends, a sense of duty, and....um....certain biological urges apparently. He usually tried to find a non-violent way to solve the problems but would fight if necessary, despite being a good 4 or 5 inches shorter than everyone else (it's hard to fight while wearing lifts!). I guess I'm thinking of the Kirk we saw in "The Wrath of Khan" when Spock died and the eulogy Kirk gives....I love it that he gets so emotional that he can't go on. And then, while watching the planet below coming to life he says he feels young again. I just love that. I think people tend to think of him as just jumping from woman to woman, but he had real feelings, he almost always gave the bad guy a chance to do the right thing (like putting Khan on the planet -while it was still a nice place to be - in the first place, when he could have just locked him up and letting the big lizard guy live), he worked to find compromises when possible like between the horta and the miners, and he got races that thought they were superior to others to stop thinking that way and desegregate. And all the while he kept his sense of humor.......something Batman was sorely lacking. Anyway, I know I'm too late, but I think Kirk often gets the short end of the stick when people think of him as just a charicature and a cad.)

My vote is for Admiral William Adama. My second vote if she was on the list (and should be on it) is President Laura Roslin. However, I don't understand why the Stargate characters aren't on the list??? They should be.
If you can have characters from Spiderman to Jean Grey, then the Stargate characters should be included.
Not taking anything away from the other heroes, but, they are just as heroic as the rest of them and should
be included on the list. Stargate heroes should be included.

I love B5. I love BSG. Difficult choice, but I've been voting for Ivanova.... She's definitely a stronger female character than Starbuck, but Starbuck risks her life ever time she goes out in a Viper. Now maybe her actions of late aren't so heroic, but well I've got several different reasons for keeping her around a little bit longer though she is soon to be on the chopping block for me.
