According to one of the writers, the Wraith were tagging the planet - teleporting down some sort of sensor - that would detect if any humans returned to the planet after the culling

Mayby that is the weakness in wraith Tech, you can drain its life from it, thereby killing it. So all we need to destroy the hiveships are giant wrath hands .
