Mobile Register talks about SG1's longevity + tonight's episodes (and Dr. Who)

Now there's a new champion holder when it comes to long-running sci-fi shows on American TV. Tonight, "Stargate SG-1" begins its 10th season, and that's a season more than "The X-Files" went. Further, the show is still going strong, averaging more than 2.2 million viewers per episode and leading Sci Fi Channel to become the top cable destination on Friday nights for young adults.

That's a solid performance for a cable channel.

It's only the fifth season of "SG1" for Sci Fi, incidentally. The first five seasons played out over on premium channel Showtime.

Don't expect "SG1" to catch up to "Doctor Who," however, as the new incarnations of the British sci-fi character and series have been very well received. I'm hoping "Who" will be in production for another long while before it takes its next big break.
