Hey everyone,

Thought I'd start this thread as a place to talk about, discuss and speculate about new episode info regarding Season Three. Pretty soon we'll start releasing some info on the site. In addition, you can trust to always find one or two new tidbits to be posted in the blogs of the people behind the scenes.

I can proudly tell you that Season Three is officially underway. The first draft of episode one is already completed, the first draft of episode two will be completed tomorrow (trusting everything stays on schedule). Don't want to give too much away here just yet; I plan to update my blog soon, and I'll still need something for there too. ;)

But we're in the process of getting some additional writers on board, and as of right now I can assure you that Season Three will, indeed, once more consist of 24 episodes. For a while we weren't sure if we'd be able to keep up such long seasons, but things couldn't be going better right now.

Now, of course I can't go without giving you at least some kind of piece of information regarding the new season that you could talk about. So here goes... ;)

Contrary to what the ending of Season Two would make one expect, Season Three will, in fact, not kick off with picking up right where Season Two left off. Instead we'll be once again skipping a couple of months ahead, and there will be a Season Three Prequel that will bridge the gaps between the two seasons. You can expect the prequel to be released in September, roughly a month before the Season Three premiere. The length of the prequel hasn't been determined yet, but it'll be anywhere between 15 and 20 pages long (note that due to a format change the new scripts will have an average length of about 60 pages).

Also, the Season Three premiere will be introducing a couple of interesting characters, who might very well be recurring throughout the season. They're not Kih'Andari, and not Enoly. Not Vorian either.

And with that, I'll just also toss out the title of episode 3.01. It would be interesting to see some speculations as to what exactly it referss to. It's called...

"Rogues"

Rogues? So much could happen with that name. Horizon-1 disobey some orders in order to save the galaxy?

if its horizon-1 disobeying orders than its kinda like SG-1 so yeah if they are not enoly, kih'andri or vorian then they have got to be Tau'ri or Tok'ra and hey will we see The ISGC in the premiere or no.

I want to see a lost Ori ship in the galaxy and the Valiant came across it and firefight follows. The Valiant is crippled. The Ori ship got the upperhand before a Fleet of Earth ships came to the rescue and the Ori ship retreated back to where they came from.

Here's a guess about Rogues - the entire Horizon station has gone 'rogue' against the Vorian government, in that it has refused to endorse the Kih'Andari war, and is now a faction of its own.

[Simpsons comic book guy voice]Pfft, I doubt it severely. Everyone knows that the weakness of the biosphere, as clearly demonstrated in episode 2-point-2-4, 'Revolution,' is in its massive weapons system, if which enough fire is concentrated on, will blow up, destroying the entire biosphere. Not some lame Star Wars episode 4 rip-off.[/end Simpsons' comic book guy voice]

It's nice to see that this thread is being used so far. ;)

Perhaps it's time for some more vague pieces of info to keep the game going. With regard to these new potential recurring characters, some of you might be onto something there. Here's some more info on them:

Character A is male and in his fifties; he has a history with one of our main characters. We've got a possible actor in mind for him, but I don't want to reveal him just yet.

Character B is female, in her thirties. She and Character A are working together now, and she's got a history (can you believe it) with another one of our main characters.

My sources also tell me that it's possible that we'll be seeing a character in the season premiere who've we've seen in one episode of Season Two. So "Rogues" might be the second appearance of this particular character.

We've also got two guest characters who appear in the first two episodes of the season, and they're scientists. However, they might not really be who or what they appear to be... at least, according to Character A.

There you have it. Should be fun. Rest assured, there'll be more throughout the coming weeks. :cameron:

Well, I've been away for two weeks so I didn't get to read the premiere draft yet, but from what I've seen I'm looking forward to it.

Interesting speculation going on, I guess I can update SGU with the title for 3.01.

EDIT: Just finished reading 3.01 and 3.02, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed them. But things really get going around 3.03 from what I know about it.

Thought I'd pop in here to bring one or two latest news from behind the scenes of Season Three. I really need to update my blog again soon too, but for now this should work as well. ;)

As I'm working on both episodes three and four (that is the script for three and the outline for four), I'm finding myself quite challenged with number three. For one, this one's requiring lots of homework, because (and this is pretty interesting) it'll be full of mythological references. That's right, a lot of you have been wanting to see it, and now it's happening. Following Stargate tradition, Horizon will be much more mythology-based in Season Three. And to prove it, episode three has been tentatively named... "Legend and Myth." Haven't actually come up with a title for episode four, though.

Character A will be in "Legend and Myth" as well. Character B was supposed to, but won't. Therefore we might actually finally see the Vorian team leader of Horizon-2. I won't make any promises just yet, because so far his storylines in previous episodes always ended up getting cut from the final draft (which was a shame). That, of course, resulted in us never actually having seen the guy. However, this time he might make it all the way to the episode's final version. Fingers crossed.

And here's one more little piece of info... "Legend and Myth" will partly take place inside a village/town (or maybe even city; that's not too clear yet) on another planet. And the people living there, will reveal something to us which will come as a surprise, and might end up having a huge impact on future storylines.

I know, it's all vague and mysterious. But what else would you expect? :cameron:

what about the episode title for 3.02 i mean you got 3.01 and 3.03 what about 3.02 so this vorian commander dude does he have a connection to like sivea or Callen? will you guys do another episode with Chase and Arina is it? and David is he coming back or not? if so will he be reduced to a recurring role or guest character? hey and what about Day'ek Sonak what's up with him? and also could ya please make your mid-season finale like a two-part im sorry but the 3-part episode's are nice but two-parters are better i think. somehow i think you guys are copying SG-1 a little bit with the whole mythology thing. Well let's hope Horizon can live up to SG-1's and Atlantis's Season premire's.

Lots of questions hidden in that little paragraph. I'll try and answer all of them. ;)

what about the episode title for 3.02 i mean you got 3.01 and 3.03 what about 3.02

I haven't mentioned it yet because we were thinking about possibly changing it to something else. We're not quite sure yet actually. But I have a feeling that pretty soon it shall be revealed.

so this vorian commander dude does he have a connection to like sivea or Callen?

No personal connection to either of them.

will you guys do another episode with Chase and Arina is it?

Yup.

and David is he coming back or not? if so will he be reduced to a recurring role or guest character?

I think if he'll be back, he'll definitely be a regular.

hey and what about Day'ek Sonak what's up with him?

We've been talking about some interesting ideas for him in Season Three. Joe came up with something that I thought was amazing.

and also could ya please make your mid-season finale like a two-part im sorry but the 3-part episode's are nice but two-parters are better i think.

The mid-season three parter of Season Two was supposed to be a two parter originally. But it wouldn't have worked out too well that way.

But if you like two-parters, you'll love this: originally the first three episodes of Season Three were supposed to be a three-parter. However, as the story evolved the first two became much more of a two parter, and the third one does pick up on something that was established in 3.01 and 3.02, but it's definitely more of an episode of its own. The primary story of 3.01 and 3.02 ends in 3.02.

somehow i think you guys are copying SG-1 a little bit with the whole mythology thing.

I don't see how. Stargate has always been based on mythologies, and it's kind of taken real life mythologies into a sci-fi setting. That's one of the thingns that, in my oppinion, makes Stargate unique actually.

At first it was Egyptian mythologies (along with some other references), then there's an entire spin-off that's based (and named after) a pretty famous mytholgy. And in Season Nine SG-1 started to explore Arthurian mythologies.

Well let's hope Horizon can live up to SG-1's and Atlantis's Season premire's.

I think it definitely does. But then again, I'm terribly biased. :cameron:

This would be great to read!.

Maybe something with a Plot like:
The humans never meet the Vorian's and contorl the station, and the Valiant blow up due to a trator aboard. So they have no way to return home (Earth) as the Valiant is the only ship built.

It's something we've discussed several times actually, even during Season Two. For now there aren't any concrete plans, but an alternate universe or alternate reality episode of some kind is definitely something we'd like to do at some point. So we'll have to see.

Hey folks,

Just thought I'd pop into this thread once more to keep you all up to date. Things have been changing around massively lately, but they're starting to shape up pretty well.

In my last "status report" I've mentioned that episode three has been titled "Legend and Myth". Quick, forget everything I've said. Well, not everything, but a lot of it.

Instead of episode three, "Legend and Myth" will now most likely (very, very likely) be episode four of Season Three. Episode three will therefore be the first part of "Legend and Myth", and the title I'm currently considering is "The Search." I haven't even mentioned the title to the writing staff yet (that's how recent this development is), but I think it fits pretty well.

So what do you have now, you ask? The season premiere is called "Rogues," because it involves people who have become rogue to the people they used to be with. Episode two has been named, but I'm hesitant to reveal the title just yet. Episode three is the first part of episode four, but the third episode in the four episode opening arc of the season; confusing, isn't it? What do you think how I feel? Anyway, like I said, episode three has been tentatively named "The Search," because, well, we'll be looking for something. Then we may or may not find it in "Legend and Myth."

Working out this arc has been and still is quite a challenge. But now I've finally found my way into episode three, which I'm currently writing. Just taking a break from it actually as I'm typing this (already in the middle of act four). Then, the big challenge will be mapping out episode four, and structuring all the various plot points and pieces that'll have to go in there.

By the way, I also said that character B won't be in episode three? Forget about that too, because character B will now, in fact, be in episode three; and, hopefully, in episode four, too.

Oh, and the Vorian team leader of Horizon-2... we ended up taking him out of the story of episode three again. And it's very unlikely he'll make it into episode four. But, no worries; he will definitely be in some episodes at one point or another this season. Just give him some time.

So, that's the latest. I'll save letting you in on what kind of stories our other writers are working on once I get around to updating my blog. Which, I promise, will be very soon.

No, what he means is that Season 3 will have an opening arc of four, but the third and fourth of these will be part of a sub-story spread over two episodes.

Yeah, that's pretty much right. And the first two episodes will also have a sub plot of their own, which is resolved at the end of episode two, but which leads into the main plot of the next two episodes. It's kind of like two two-parters back to back, if you will.

My head just exploded reading that.

Well, I don't know much about 3.03 and 3.04 since I just returned from several weeks of camp, but I'm now back and can delve back into being front and center with Horizon. 3.07, as it seems it might be, will feature several returning characters and deals with more of the season's overall arc.

Everyone listen up!!! It's confusing-head-exploding-but-at-the-same-time-very-insightful-news-updating-time!!!

First off, I still haven't gotten around to updating my blog. So I figured, let's just post another status report here; oddly it's quicker than when I update the blog, probably because I'll tend to talk about all sorts of other things too when I'm blogging (after all, isn't that what blogging's all about?). But here... here I'm forced to stick to the matter at hand: updates regarding Horizon. Nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise, I fear, the space-time-continum might collapse. And I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for that.

I'm now working on the script for episode four of the season, and while last week I still thought that "Legend and Myth" was an appropriate title, I'm now considering something of which I think is more appropriate for this particular episode. Brace yourselves for... "The Search, Part Two." Because that's just simply what it is, a continuation of the search.

Now, those of you who've read the Season Two finale, "Revolution," I think you might be able to figure out just what it is we could be looking for. A helpful hint: it has to do with... No, I can't really say. The finale gave it away already, anyway. ;)

So, our current episode list looks like this:

3.01 "Rogues"
3.02 "The Circle"
3.03 "The Search, Part One"
3.04 "The Search, Part Two"
3.05 "Untitled Tok'ra"
3.06 "Incommunicado"
3.07 "My Enemy's Enemy"

Wait! Slow down! Hold on! Did I just unveil several new episode titles?! I think I might have. And I'll have to say, the stories behind them do look really great. I can only speak for myself, but I think everyone on staff is pretty excited about the stories we're telling this season. It should make for some interesting episodes.

Turns out character B will not be in "The Search, Part Two," but she'll most likely get what is really actually a C-Plot in the untitled Tok'ra story. Yup. Character B is, in fact, a female character.

Let's see, what else? I still want to save some news for my blog (which I will be updating, even if you have no reason to believe me; I'll do it when you expect it the least). I will say that just today I've pitched an idea involving one of our characters making a rather unique experience, which could have long-term effects; but right now I'm waiting to see what the other writers' thoughts on this are.

So that's about it for tonight. Haven't started work on the prequel yet, but we'll be doing that pretty soon to ensure it'll be ready on time. We're just two and a half months away from the season premiere. It might seem like quite a while, but time does tend to fly by.

By the way, I know that a lot of what I say has the tendency to lead to more questions and/or speculations. Feel free to make use of the Ask The Horizon Team thread, for any kinds of questions. Doesn't really matter what. Even if it's not a question about Horizon we'd let it slide by. Maybe we'd be surprised, or maybe we wouldn't be surprised, but... we'd let it slide either way. So go ahead and try it... :cameron:

That's an interesting question. I really liked the developments between Sivea and Bay'lar in "In Times of Despair." Their relationship has certainly changed in that particular episode, and by the end of it they agreed that - for now, anyway - they'd remain friends.

So it could go in any direction really. Same goes for Grant and Sivea, by the way. Of course I can't actually reveal too much more at this point, only that there are earliest plans in the works for an episode that's currently just known as "Untitled Sivea/Bay'lar." But that just means it's a story that somehow involves Sivea and Bay'lar. It doesn't mean it alters their relationship the way it is now.

As a direct answer to your questions, all I could really say - in no particular order - would be: maybe, maybe, and maybe. ;)

Alex:

With the cancellation of SG-1, do you think that you will still have a problem with continuity?

SG-1 coming to an end won't have any affects on the difficulties of maintaining continuity, since it's merely a chapter (one series) of Stargate coming to an end, but not Stargate as a whole; far from it.

We've actually just talked about this the other day in the online writer's room, and even though our chances of having more of the SG-1 cast making an appearance on Horizon might be raised a little, there's still a difficulty that comes with that. SG-1 will continue in one way or another; perhaps as a series of feature films (which is what I personally would love to see). But either way, SG-1 as well as Stargate as a whole will still be out there. And while that's the case, we'll always have to be careful with continuity.

On the one hand we could make things easier on ourselves by not worrying too much about it, but right now we're trying to stick with continuity whenever possible. That has been and will continue to be a challenge.

Interestingly, and this was decided before it was known that SG-1 would end, Season Three will be connecting Horizon a little more to the SG-1 universe. We might see more familiar elements and/or characters popping up this season.

For all we know, Gorlon was killed when the biosphere was destroyed. But... who knows for sure?

With regard to who he'd be on Atlantis, I think I should underline that we don't look at either Atlantis nor SG-1, and then come up with "our version" of those shows. No matter how much all of us enjoy both of the televised shows, they don't influence us when it comes to this show. Quite the contrary, Horizon is meant to be different and stand on its own, while still being Stargate. Very much as if it were another televised spin off.

So I don't think Gorlon would be anyone on Atlantis. I do see what you mean, though, in that there might be a slight parallel between Gorlon and Koyla and their relationships to Grant and Shepperd respectively. But they're definitely very different characters.

you know alex i have been hearing since the end of season two that there were going to be some making of's stuff for various episodes of season two what happened to that and when are you going to update your blog?

Yeah, that's very true. And I do feel I have to apologize for that. I haven't been getting the time to do all that as much as I'd like to, and I think it's a shame. I should underline that I haven't forgotten about it, but the truth is often I'll just won't have the time.

The reasons are simple, though. What I'm basically juggling here is writing and/or producing 24 episodes a season (some take up more of my time than others, depending on whether or not I'm writing them), finding time to do the prequel, working a full-time job (38.5 hours a week, often including weekends), and a personal live (yes, folks, I know there's been some debate regarding this, but it does exist ;) ).

So often it comes down to choosing either to work on an episode, or work on a special feature, like a Making Of. And usually I will then choose to work on an episode, to ensure that we'll be ready once the season premieres. However, fortunately I'm happy to say that we're on a great schedule. In fact, we've never been this far ahead. We have episodes in development up until 3.13. Yup, 3.13, which is amazing progress. Mike's currently working on the outline for part two of the mid-season two parter.

So with things going this great, I should have some more time available to devote to special features very soon. Maybe they'll be Making Of's, or maybe podcasts. Either way, I'm eager to getting back to them. I will say that I really want to start doing podcasts on a weekly basis, starting with Season Three. I can't make any promises, but I'll say it's something I'd really love to do.

So, I'll have to ask you to be patient for just a little while longer; but eventually there'll be more special features coming up. And I'll definitely get around to updating my blog very soon.

I've been reading a few of the comments left by fans here for ideas, and I have to say I am pleased in the interest in helping us with the third season. When writers are drafting episodes it is very supportive when the community tells us what they want to see :)

Okay folks, time for a little update for those of you eagerly anticipating new info regarding Season Three.

As many of you know by now, we've now got a total of seven writers on board. While each of them are working on their respective episodes, which are all in different stages of development, I've finished the first drafts of "The Search, Parts One and Two," and, while I'll still be doing some minor rewriting on those, I've moved on to the next episode, which is 3.05. The formerly untitled Tok'ra episode, also known as the untitled Lenori/Kayla story, now tentatively named "Preservation."

Still working out some details of the story. The challenge here is to juggle all the various storylines; it's a very character driven story, that kind of serves as a bridge between the opening arc and the following episodes. In some ways the episode is similiar in style to "In Times Of Despair," in that there's a lot of different storylines going on, that each deal with some of our characters. The A-Plot would probably have to be the Lenori/Kayla storyline.

In addition, this episode will also bring back a rather familiar, small, gray alien with large black eyes. Hmmm. Now, there's something to speculate about. ;)

After I finish this episode, I'm already looking forward to getting to work on that "Pleasure Planet" episode. The one that features the return of a character we all love and enjoy having around. A character that's known for always bringing along one or two surprises when she pops up.

I know, I know. Haven't even halfway finished the episode I'm currently working on, and I'm already thinking about the next one. But it'll be quite a fun one, that's for sure.

Now, before I go, I'll post an update on the first seven episodes of the season; the titles can also be found in the Horizon episode guide at http://www.sg-universe.net.

3.01 Rogues
3.02 The Circle
3.03 The Search, Part One
3.04 The Search, Part Two
3.05 Preservation
3.06 Trepidation
3.07 My Enemy's Enemy

And now I'll leave you with one final piece of info to speculate about, episode 3.08 will be definitely a quite unique episode in many ways. It'll be kind of an ultimate character episode for Chase, and finally the guy will be getting some more background development (looks like we might even meet a family member), and I'll say three words that should raise some eye brows (we aim to raise eye brows): Wild Wild West!

Hm, hello! I'm popping back in again after a while of not saying much... There's really too little out to use for speculation, but I can say that so far, I'm really looking forward to "The Search, Part II" - the landmark 50th episode of Horizon, a truly special occurance! Congratulations for more than three thousand pages of high quality writing!

I realized it was the fiftieth episode but... 3000 pages? Wow. And Alex wrote at least 3/4 of them. :)

Well, just pointing out that season three is now less than two weeks away, with the prequel less than two days after a short delay.

Alright people the season three premier 'Rogues' is right around the corner, less than a week away infact. So let us get some last minute speculation going.
Alex has already given us alot to go on, but not alot at the same time. So let us get cracking. Who or what are going to be the Rogues? What about this new alien race, are they going to be friend or will they be foe? Will they want to conquer the universe? Or will they help the Horizon team on their mission?
What of the Enoly? While the war rages on what are they doing to rebuild and regroup after so many devestating losses?
Will we see the Aschen?
Will Horizon-1 find the book in time to prevent a galactic emergency?
One last thing, who is going to be character three, and what will her role be in the series?
Have at it.:cameron:

Just to make sure there aren't any missunderstandings, this new alien race (not necessarily enemy, but who knows) will make their first appearance in the "Sivea/Bay'lar Episode" that Marc is writing. They won't be in the season premiere, even though someone might actually mention their name again in that episode.

That's an interesting question.

That's an interesting question.

Uh... that's an interesting question.

I'll just say it's a character who's got a history with one of our regulars, which I believe was mentioned before. She's in the first three episodes, and I think the scenes with her and this particular regular turned out great. I think there's a nice dymanic there.

Well since I will hopefully start a new round of speculation.
My speculation is the fact that the actual Rogues are referring to the organization that Saunders and General Williams are working for. That they are a rougue group.

So, character 3 is Julia? The Bentari are the alien race?

Actually, character 3 was referring to a character who's in some way involved with Colonel Saunders. Even though Julia, of course, also has quite a personal history with David.

The Bentari? Hmmm. They've been mentioned a couple of times, and no one knows what they actually look like. ;)

Hmmmmm. If I had to guess... Yes.

It might even be up very early, before it goes up on the site actually. ;)

Or...because I'm guessing they still haven't fixed the site? How's that coming BTW Alex? The new site?

Yeah, the only thing I'm currently able to do is put up news releases. Which is why the site really isn't being maintained at all at the moment, unfortunatly. In short, we'll have to work out some details, and then I think we'll be looking for a webmaster to be taking care of the site in the future.

The new site design is something I'm hoping to do soon, but nothing's happened in that regard yet. Again, for the same reason.
