Michael Shanks is the Bad Guy

For his role in the new Insight Films/Lifetime movie-of the-week, ‘Judicial Indiscretion’ that is.

Michael Shanks is playing Jack Sullivan, a handsome, well dressed and extremely charming young Irishman who claims to be an up-and-coming book author when he introduces himself to the vacationing Monica Barrett. Barrett, played by the very lovely Anne Archer (The Art of War, Indiscretion of an American Wife), is a beautiful woman in her mid-forties with great intellect and integrity, who is a highly respected judge. A widow, with a daughter in her late-twenties, her life dramatically changes when she is nominated to the United States Supreme Court. For Monica, this is a dream come true, one that she has worked for all her life.

But her dream suddenly becomes a nightmare when she meets Jack Sullivan who begins insinuating himself into her life through chance meetings and eventually romancing Monica who, despite her normally reserved and practical nature, finds herself flattered to be at the center of much younger man’s attentions.

While he was cynical, he was also hilarious. While he was intelligent, he was also constantly drunk. An American, he arrived in Ahmedabad in search of inner peace. He wanted to get answers to number of questions, most notably revolving around horrors that religious differences could create. He chose Gandhi as a subject and started living with Cyrus' family.

Michael Shanks Chats ‘Under The Mistletoe’

It’s a beautiful, summer day in Vancouver, B. C. and the production team of the movie ‘Under the Mistletoe’ has transformed a local high school into the fictional Millbury Private School for an exterior shoot for Insight Films’ new Christmas themed movie. Extras are milling about waiting for the scene, the first meeting between lead characters Susan Chandler, played by Jaime Ray Newman, and school counselor/hockey coach Kevin Harrison, played by Michael Shanks, to be set up. Shanks, wearing a dark blue suit and a light blue shirt, looks every bit the part of the dedicated school counselor. With the sun shining down on everyone and the temperatures in the mid eighty-degree mark [twenty-nine degree Celsius], it’s hard to imagine they’re filming a Christmas movie.

‘Under the Mistletoe’ tells the story of Susan Chandler and her eleven-year old son, Jonathan (played by Burkely Duffield), who have suffered the loss of husband and father Tom Chandler (played by Conan Graham) in a car accident during Christmas time. A year later, as Christmas approaches again, Susan and Jonathan still have great difficulty dealing with Tom’s untimely death. Jonathan continually claims to see his father’s ghost and to have conversations with him - though no one, not even his mother, believes him.

When Jonathan gets into trouble at school, the new counselor, Kevin Harrison, takes an interest in Jonathan and Susan as he tries to understand the cause of Jonathan’s inability to let go of his father. Kevin begins finding himself falling in love with Susan, but Susan is oblivious to Kevin’s growing attraction to her, as she is involved with slick attorney Greg Roberts, whom she met through a radio-show dating contest. Meanwhile, Tom Chandler, by way of his son, must try to lead his beloved wife toward choosing the right man - so his son will have a good father, and Susan can experience true love again.

In between takes for the scene being filmed at the school, Michael Shanks sat down to talk about his role and the challenges of making a Christmas movie in the middle of a summer heat wave in Vancouver, B.C.

MICHAEL SHANKS and JAMIE RAY NEWMAN

Most of the reviews out are one liners but these are a bit larger....

                    http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2006/dec...onight-monday/

Susan Bell's (Jamie Ray Newman) love life is taken over by a local radio
station after a phone call from her 8-year-old son in the new movie "Under the
                    Mistletoe," on Lifetime.

Normally a Lifetime movie that's basically a ripoff of "Sleepless in Seattle"
would not be worth my time. However, since Michael Shanks of "Stargate SG-1"
is in it, I've deigned to give it a whirl. He's not as cool as other "SG-1"
guy Richard Dean Anderson, but he's still a cutie. In "Under the Mistletoe" (7
p.m.), Shanks co-stars as Kevin Harrison, the widowed school counselor and the
coach of the school hockey team who finds himself falling for a single mom
Susan (Jamie Ray Newman, "Veronica Mars").Susan's now a pretty popular lady after
her young son places a phone call to a local radio station where Susan ends up
sharing her dating woes. The radio station then takes over her love life and
determines they'll get her a man.

UNDER THE MISTLETOE -- There's no science fiction in the story line of this
new romantic drama, but sci-fi fans might want to check it out for the two
leads: "Stargate" franchise alumni Jaime Ray Newman ("Stargate: Atlantis") and
Michael Shanks ("Stargate: SG-1"). Newman plays a young widow whose love life is
shaken up by a radio contest, thanks to her son and a friend (Burkely
                    Duffield, Ingrid Torrance). (9 p.m., Lifetime )

                                A Storyteller's Tale of Indiscretion
                                by Dana Jeanne Norris

Judicial Indiscretion is the second time Mendeluk has worked with Michael Shanks. The first was last July in the Christmas-themed Under the Mistletoe, which also starred Jaime Ray Newman.

In Under the Mistletoe, Shanks plays a clean-cut, hockey player/counselor, while in Judicial Indiscretion, he rotates 180 degrees as the psychopathic rapist, Jack Sullivan. Does a director do anything differently when faced with the same actor playing parts that are total opposites?
