Oh, this is though. I don't actually like season 9 onwards any less than the "old" show, but the "old" show will always have something that it doesn't anyway. And, no, that's not Jack... Well, maybe...

Though I really like season 9, I do wish that it was actually season one of "Stargate Command," rather than keeping the title "Stargate SG-1" for political reasons.
The end of Season 8 would have brought closure to the SG-1 series, and a spin-off called "Stargate Command" would have made the changes introduced in season 9 more credible, and allowed for more flexibility in who the show could focus on. Sam, Cam, Daniel, Teal'c, and even Vala could still feature, but not have to be awkwardly forced into the "SG team" formula requiste from "Stargate SG-1." They could have created their own formula with a new series.
A great opportunity for plausible and acceptable reinvention was lost, IMO.
