• no one has a middle name unless it's essential (James T Kirk, and I think the T just made it sound better, or whatever)
• no one has a religion (except for aliens)
• no one votes (i.e., no is a democrat, republican, etc.)

However, as for Shep's backstory (which fans have been clamoring for since day one - who knows? they've promised us backstory in season 3 but I'm not holding my breath).
