:( Noooooo!!!! Making me choose between those two. Love them both. Going to vote to save B5 cuz that's my favorite of the B5s. I hadn't heard the intro for it in quite some time but when I was listening to it back when the tourney started, I could recite the voiceover as it was playing and not miss a beat. I just think it's a cool and fitting theme for that year.

Of the 2 BSG themes, the NA one is my fav. (but just barely) I guess because it was the one I heard for the first 13 episodes plus I liked the militaristic feel to the music. It fit the nature of the show, imo. Course the show is multifaceted and not purely focused on the military aspect but.....I like strong themes.

Not true, I enjoy Voyager as a show, but the theme.....I always get up for a snack or a bathroom break during it. It does nothing for me. On the other hand I'm gunning (pun intended) for Angel to win, despite only having seen a dozen or so episodes, over my all-time favourite show and what I thought would be my all-time favourite theme (BSG).

IMO Voyager's music was impersonal and bland. Yes it was well made, but it carried none of the feel of the show IMO, and besides SG1, it was the only one left in the list that was like that.

Good time to advocate...... So, here's my take on the remaining themes.... I'll group by type:

Xfiles and Dr.Who: Both have that recognizable, "something creepy this way comes" tone with Dr. Who almost sounding like a cliche of an old radio SciFi theme and Xfiles sounding more modern, but with the same affect. I think both fit their respective shows beautifully, but both are just accents with not much in the way of a melody. I'd give them each a low 7.

Deep Space 9: The last of the full orchestra, traditional Trek themes. I think the only Trek theme weaker than this one is the TOS theme. It's very majestic and all, but the melody line just sits there and rotates like the station itself. Considering the fact that the station was a Cardassian station and the site of all kinds of treachery and warfare, I don't see the theme as a fit at all. Is the majesty supposed to communicate the Federation's ideals or the Bajoran faith? The music is nice, but not great and it doesn't fit the show: a 6.

Buffy: Lightweight, fun action rock theme. I expect a cartoon to follow, something like Josie and the Pussycats. Another 6.

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis: too familiar to comment on much. Solid action themes that are more like the old Trek themes only more energetic. I like em both, but don't love either one. I'd give these mid 7s.

Angel- No comment here because I have not seen the show. The start is promising and mysterious, but then it seems to sink into a standard rock drone tone. A 5 from me.

Firefly - I love this one, but I am a HUGE roots music fan. It tells the story of the show perfectly, but also accentuates the whole corn-pone aspect that some people don't like. Like, what do banjos have to do with Sci-fi?
This one is an 8 for me.

BGA - UK version. Terrific fit, creepy, militant, lost in space quality. For some reason I can't explain the lack of a melody doesn't bother me here. The vastness of space and the need to fight to survive are both embodied here. I would also give this one an 8.

I really like all the themes listed here, so really it comes to down to which theme grabs me to watch the show, and which theme can I listen to, and enjoy listening to, without seeing the show. Here are my ratings:

Angel- 10 Fits the show so well, it got me interested in seeing the show, it's catchy, and very cool. Joss knows how to pick his themes.
Battlestar Galactica, The New Series- 10 Ditto, aside from the Joss part, and the introducing me to the show part. And I guess it can't be called "catchy", well, the drum part can.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer- 7 Never seen the show, but it's great and makes me want to see the show. Ditto for the Joss part, but it doesn't quite hold up the same standard as Angel/Firefly themes, so it's rates a bit less.
Doctor Who, 9th/10th Doctor's era- 6 Not bad, but I don't have much else to say for it. It's likable, but forgettable, and doesn't drive me to see the show.
Firefly- 9 Love it. perfect for the show, great to listen to without the show. Excellent theme.
Stargate: SG1- 7 Good, but not quite in the same league as others left on the list. it does make me want to see the show every time I hear it though.
Stargate: Atlantis- 6 It's nice, but not spectacular, and not as memorable as SG-1 which is why I rate it lower, but it's not bad.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine- 7 Makes me want to see the show, the best of the Trek themes, all round very good. it gets a high-seven-almost-eight.
The X-Files- 8 It will remain a classic theme, very memorable, perfect for the show, and I want to watch the show when I hear it.

It's a really nice tune, played beautifully by a 'cello. The cello i think is the key bit - it has just the right sound for Angel. The tune sounds so nice, because it tends to move fairly stepwise (and so goes just where you want it to)

It's brooding and moody and a little dark, just like the lead character. ;) I also enjoy the combination of piano and cello. Cello is one of my favorite instruments. - it's on a purely musical basis - as a piece of music, i much prefer the construct and sound of the other two themes. And as the tone of all three equally match the tone and theme of each show, i'm gonna vote on the musicality of each piece - and to be honest, i much prefer instrumental and orchestral tunes as pieces of music - they tend to be constructed with more structure, and a better tune.
