Anyone got a Stopwatch and a copy of 38 Minutes?

Someone should time how much time was accualy spent between the Gate opening and closing. Don't include the title Sequence, any of the flashbacks, or the afterword. I bet it's pretty damn close to 38 minutes exactly.

Shouldn't the flashbacks count? It seemed clear from the editing that they were taking about as much time as a spoken monologue would have.

But either way, I'm sure some reasonable combination of scenes does add up to about 38 minutes.

Total time including flashbacks is a few seconds more than 38 minutes. Considering 38-minutes was never an exact number (according to SG-1) it was pretty good timing.

        Hopefully I did this correctly:

00:00:38 (1st block) Stackhouse hits the blue triangle button (wormhole established)
00:03:11 (1st block) Opening sequence starts
        --------------
        153 sec, 153 secs total

        00:07:33 (2nd block) Start
00:10:19 (2nd block) Lt. Ford's recap for Dr. Weir starts
        --------------
        166 sec, 319 secs total

00:12:04 (2nd block) Dr. McKay interrupts Lt. Ford's recap
00:13:48 (2nd block) Lt. Ford's 1st recap for Maj. Sheppard starts
        --------------
        104 secs, 423 secs total

00:14:04 (2nd block) Dr. McKay interrupts Lt. Ford's recap
        00:18:21 (2nd block) Block ends

        00:22:58 (3rd block) Lt. Ford's recap ends
00:23:56 (3rd block) Maj. Sheppard's recap for Dr. Beckett starts
        --------------
        58 secs, 809 secs total

        00:24:59 (3rd block) Maj. Sheppard's recap ends
        00:29:54 (3rd block) Block ends
        --------------
        295 secs, 1104 secs total

        00:32:45 (4th block) Block starts
00:39:45 (4th block) Dr. McKay says "15 minutes left"
        --------------
        420 secs, 1524 secs total

That was 25 min 24 sec instead of 23 min

        00:39:52 (4th block) Block ends
        --------------
        7 secs, 1531 secs total

        00:43:44 (5th block) Block starts

        71 secs, 1602 secs total

        00:45:20 (5th block) Block starts
00:49:48 (5th block) Dr. Weir says "7 minutes"
        --------------
        268 secs, 1870 secs total

        00:49:50 (5th block) Block ends
        --------------
        2 secs, 1872 secs total

        00:53:02 (6th block) Block starts
00:56:15 (6th block) Gate shuts down
        --------------
        193 secs, 2065 secs total

That was 34 min 25 sec.

Therefore, the episode first become out of synchronization, but got back again to the end. Now I will get a calculator to check this.

It is a matter how quickly you can do it. It took me about 10 minutes.

                  You forgot some things:

Did they encounter Wraith ships while trying to get to the open wormhole?

How long was the wormhole open before they got stuck?

How long were they knocked out?

This is a small typo (from copy and paste), and should be "Maj. Sheppard's recap ends". The data are correct.

The flashbacks are included in the 38 minutes, the ad breaks are not, simple as that

Yes, then total time is pretty close (38 min 10 sec). But this does not change the fact that the characters are uttering useless time "reminders" (because they are highly inaccurate).

I think the "time reminders" should probably be pretty darn close to the actual time. So what if the scenes we are seeing don't play out in real-time? I'll bet some of the flashbacks were longer/more complete versons than what the characters on the ship were hearing from their crewmembers anyway.
There is only one thing we can ever truly control: whether we are good, or evil.
