TV 'told babysitter to stab boy'

A babysitter who stabbed a six-year-old boy to death claimed he was acting on telepathic messages from television show Stargate SG1, a court heard.
James Brennan was stabbed 73 times by 25-year-old Anthony Barnwell at his home in Chorlton, Manchester, last September while his father was out.

Philip Curran, prosecuting, said Barnwell had been watching Stargate SG1 the night before the attack and believed he had received messages telling him that James was Judas Iscariot and to "take him out".

A post-mortem examination revealed James had suffered 73 stab wounds.

The worst I'd ever read regarding someone thinking a movie told them to do it was someone who re-enacted a scene from "Warlock." Worst was the boy (it was a 10 or 12 year old who committed the murder) repeatedly told the authorities her kid was dangerous, unstable, etc. but nothing happened till the 12 year old killed the 5 year old, and well, anybody who saw "Warlock" can figure out the rest. Yech.

That is truley sad, and it goes to show you really have to know the person you leave your children with. In this case I don't think it mattered what TV show he watched, he could have heard the voices from a blank screen.

Yes, that's what I think. But why was the show named. I think that's not the point.

Erf. It seems to me that the BBC is trying to draw crowds away from SG1 and onto Doctor Who. What better way to do so than by blaming SG-1 for a violent murder?
