Just out of curiousity, did anyone watch Tracker?
I did, was really enthusiastic for the return of Adrian Paul, it's dissapointing though, the story-idea was good, just need better writing & directing :( the only good thing were when AP dance on the table-bar in his underwear & when he met his 'original-form' in the court-case.

PTAH! where's your round 8 vote ???

Enterprise over Futurama--something is not right!

L-JADE: Oooo! I remember the one where he met his original self. I started watching about fifteen minutes in and was lost for a bit. I caught the whole thing later. That really was a good episode. You're right, the series had great promise, but the writing was a bit flat. I'm wondering where they would have taken it the following season.... *sigh* Where is Adrian Paul now?

Oh! OH! Did anyone watch John Woo's It Takes a Thief TV series? It was pretty different, but I really enjoyed it (can a show with Nick Lea in it be anything but entertaining?).

Oops! No, no.... It isn't the Robert Wagner show. D'oh, I got the title wrong, it's John Woo's Once a Thief. It had Nick Lea, Ivan Sergei, and Sandrine Holt and was on in the late 90's, although I caught it in reruns several years later. It was pretty enjoyable. Kind of La Femme Nikita lite....

The movie was by the same guy as the series - John Woo. But I agree, I liked the actors in the series, but overall I liked the movie better.

Unfortunately, I think the best part of Tracker was the 1st episode. Adrian Paul looked damn good in those undies. :p I guess I quit watching before the court episode. I thought of the show as awfully similar to Time Trax (which I liked better - even have a Time Trax t-shirt) at least in idea.

That's the thing, the best of Tracker is the pilot, the court-episode & the one when he danced in the bar-table :P that's it!. For Time Trax, I remember the Lottery episode, when Selma was forced to reveal the winning lottery numbers (coz I sooooo want to do that too :D) but she made like a million people bought the same numbers so everybody got very little money eventhough they win the Jackpot, which seems to be copied in Bruce Almighty  Seems like all the good ideas are "been there-done that"

When Jacob was supposed to received a tok'ra named Selmak, it really remind me of Selma of Time Trax *giggles*

Eh, Red Dwarf I guess...

I've seen every season of Voyager except the last season and that wasn't by choice. Stupid channel that carried it in syndication stopped showing it..... Not the greatest of the Treks but I liked it well enough and I've only seen eps of Red Dwarf here and there....but not enough to really make a judgement on it so Voyager edges it out.

But... but... but I LIKE Voyager :P
Back home they show the TNG/DS9 at ungodly hour like 1 AM or 2 AM, so after awhile I didn't watch anymore, when I move here DS9 already off the air and on reruns (also at ungodly hour) but they show Voyager (I think season 3) at UPN and reruns every night at 12 AM, so I watch every episode of Voyager & I really like Janeway, kinda P/O at the pairing of Chakotay/Seven at the end but other than that I really like it. So I stick with my vote :P

Okay, hows this, as to not hold up the vote, if Vyse doesnt change before 19:30 GMT (1 hour) then that count will go ahead. This rule will aply if this ever happens again. For now, if you want to vote for either Red Dwarf or Voyager Do this:

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Star Trek: TOS MADE sci-fi what it is today. IMO of course. ;)

As for Babylon 5, there was no hype when I started to watch it. B5 came right out of nowhere. My first experience of B5 was the pilot film, "The Gathering", which I rented from the video shop.

At the time, I had no idea it was going to become a TV series. When it first aired on Channel 4, I knew I just had to watch it, and that was me, completely hooked. The season cliffhangers had me almost biting my nails down to the knuckle waiting for the resolution.

Edit: Thanks Thunderstorm!

Star Trek: TOS (Gave Sci-fi a bad name IMO)

A target for ridecule by anyone that doesnt watch it?

Seriously?! I mean seriously!?! Maybe most people here weren't around for its debut, but sci-fi on TV at the time was limited to anthologies like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits or stuff like Lost in Space. Star Trek opened the door to intelligent sci-fi in an on-going storytelling format. It had unforgettable characters (whether you liked them or not), emotional connections, interesting plots, and a topical quality unlike anything else of its time.

Sure, it's dated and cheesy now, but it's still rerun all over the place and its legacy is assured (the Smithsonian, for pete's sake!).

*shakes head, wondering if Ptah is just trying to get a rise out of somebody*:D

What can you expect from someone who won't allow Alien Nation to be voted on?:P hee-hee!

Warmbeachbrat: Enterprise has been gone for a while.

This is a nice tourney in that with the exception of Lost, I don't really dislike any of the remaing shows. I think BSG new is too dark for me, and I'm not feeling very charitable toward SG1 right now (but it had enough good years to keep it around for awhile).

I didn't watch TOS when it first aired, I was a little too young. I never really got into the whole Trek universe. Always seemed a little to generic and blah for me. (I know that's not a good description but can't think of anything else at the moment). Now Dr Who will always have a fond place in my heart as it was my jumpstart into the whole fandom, convention, etc fun and games.

When Space Rangers failed, one of the reasons given was that it was too dirty (cleaniness wise, not language) and people were to used to the clean space shows of Trek. Babylon 5 came out shortly after.

That's a bit unfair if they haven't watched it before, especially most of the folks with STAKS  in their sigs. Maybe it would be a good idea for some of those haters to watch it first, THEN they can ridicule ST: TOS. :D

Time to get rid of the fantasy series methinks (even though Angel absolutely rocked.) ;) It's just that my preference is the sci-fi genre. Once they're gone, I'll start tearing the Stargates to shreds. :P

The thing is Trek has always been portrayed as geeky, which has left it as a symbol for sci-fi, you think sci-fi you think of Trek and the sect of fans that take the show too seriously (Trekkies arent the problem its the hard core "trekers" that give fans the bad name). This means that people think "Stargate" geeky, dont watch. Farscape, sci-fi, geeky, dont watch. This sterotype has hurt a massive amounts of shows, Firefly for instance, which wasnt even taken seriously by its own network. DS9 for example is the breakaway of Trek, and yet when people hear the word "trek" they dont give the show a chance, despite the fact that DS9 is one of the deepest shows I have ever watched, with the last 3 seasons being some of the best TV of the 90's IMO.

As for Angel, hey Im surprised it lasted this long, and I love the show, I expected the Fantasy shows would go instead of the Sci-fi's. No worries.

The Stargate's cannot win this, as good as SG1 was/is (depending on your point of view) it and SGA are just nowhere near in the leage of Firefly, DS9 and Farscape IMO

Missster.Freeman
May 4th, 2006, 11:34 AM
All you've said there is totally true Ptah, and very unfair to all us who love science fiction. Science fiction fans will always be called geeks by outsiders ignorant to the genre. Even if there was no such thing as Star Trek and only Stargate, those 'hardcore' fans would still be labelled 'geeks'. You just have to view a couple of threads on GateWorld to see some Stargate fans take the show a bit too seriously.

But hey, sod all those on the outside looking at us. Geek power for the win! :D

Another reason I chose Angel so early is 'cos I’ve only watched up 'til the end of season 4. Channel 5 never did air the final season. Damn… I hate terrestrial TV.

*Edit* yeah, it was a damn shame that Firefly was cancelled so early. It has just about the best premise of any science fiction series. I've just recently got into Firefly after all these years (only managed to catch a few eps originally).

So - i'm supposed to vote for stuff that i've seen, and come back to see again because i liked it over something i've never seen?

Basically - the the stuff that's left that i have seen, has interested me enough to make me want to watch more of it, whereas Farscape has never interested me to find and give it a go. I have seen the odd few minutes here and there, and that hasn't been enough to make me sit down and watch a whole episode. I may be making a horrid mistake, but i can't vote for Farscape (or Babylon 5) over the rest of the list that i've enjoyed enough to come back for more.

Lost *1st season was great, 2nd started off slow & I kind of lost interest so I'm waiting for the S2 DVDs to catch up*

As far as Angel goes, I didn't care for the Jasmine storyline. Kind of around then was when it stopped being a must see show for me. Every morning while I'm getting ready for work, I either watch Angel over on TNT or Buffy on FX. This week was the Jasmine plotline so I watched Buffy instead....

And about voting off shows I haven't seen....well I have been doing that and don't see anything wrong with it. Hey I love Farscape and B5 but if people haven't seen them....well then they haven't seen them like I've never seen Dr. Who -TOS, or most of DW-TNS, or Buck Rogers, BSG-TOS, ST-TOS, Red Dwarf, and one or two others already gone. Yeah I've seen maybe a handful of eps from each of those except for DW-TOS, so I'm not totally clueless about those shows but I'm not going to vote for shows that I have seen almost every season of before a show that I really don't know enough about or liked enough to continue watching. I really liked Space:Above and Beyond, but it was the second show to go because I'm guessing most of those posting had never seen it. And of all the shows remaining, I've seen every episode or just about every episode ever produced for each of them except Dr. Who-TNS (and that's only because they just started showing it here in the US)

I don't have a problem with people voting out shows they haven't seen if all the rest on the list they liked, but I didn't like at the beginning when people were voting out shows they hadn't seen right off. Unless of course they liked everything else on the list. Then consider yourself lucky.

And can we quit voting out shows because they aren't Scifi, the title of the thread says Best SciFi/Fantasy. If you don't like them fine, vote them out but IMO they belong in this tourney whether I like them or not.

And while we're on the subject - what does everyone consider 'SciFi' anyway? I think that may be the real difference. If shows about vampires and demons don't belong here, then where do they belong.

I hope I didn't come across too heavy handed. That's not my intent it just seems that some posters are redefining the parameters of this tourney. Everyone's got there own tastes, some like Babylon 5 whereas I thought the 1st season was fine but found the rest boring and slow. On the other hand, I think Farscape is one the best written shows I've seen in a long time. The problem with it is it's not a show you can love with one viewing, you are more likely to be very confused.

Farscape

X-Files

I admit I haven't seen some of the series, like Red Dwarf and I think I might seen Doctor Who TOS years ago, but just can't remember what I felt about it. So I did vote off all those shows that I don't know about, because ANY show that I watched more than 3-4 times, I have something that I like about it.
I watch the whole series of X-Files with diminishing interest, hence I vote it out since last round.
I choose Farscape against Babylon 5, because I did watch B5 all 5 season (but not all episode) and vaguely remember the storylines and remember that I did try to rush home from college to watch the series, so obviously there's something that I like (Sheridan's cute :P) but I try to rent Farscape for 3 season in NetFlix and found myself yawning a lot. A lot of people doesn't like the puppet in Farscape, I don't mind them, it's the convoluted plots and stretched conversations that turn me off :(.
And since the title of this tourney is Best Sci-fi/Fantasy Series Tournement, I think BTVS, Angel & Lost have every right to be here... and I thought the 'SCI' in Sci-Fi is short of Science, there's a lot of applied-science in those 3 shows, and seriously, story-wise/plot-wise those three show are really as good if not better than most sci-fi series.

I'd like to say first of all that this is my favourite round so far, the debate is why I do these tournys. So, heres my opinion on the two issues atm

Voting off shows you havent seen. Out of the 25 shows in the list, the only shows I hadnt watched were Buck Rogers and Space:Above and Beyond that I hadnt seen. I voted for those two over over the shows I wasnt overly keen on, because every show on that list that I had seen was one of the best shows ever to grace the Sci-fi/Fantasy genres. So why sould I, and the other people on here, vote for the shows that they liked bits of, in order to save shows that they might well of hated? Everyone can have their own reason for voting, and I dont think its fair to judge those people's reasoning, because that is what will turn this tournement ugly when it comes to the tough choices in the last few rounds.

People voting out Fantasy shows. Again, Im not saying you shouldnt do it, and if you are a fan of sci-fi and not fantasy then fine, but the attitude im feeling in some of the posts is "Its not Sci-fi, it shouldnt be here", well yes they should, this isnt "The Best Sci-Fi Series" it is "The Best Sci-fi/Fantasy Series" so Angel for instance, has as much right to be here as Stargate does. As I said, if you dont like fantasy as much as Sci-fi then thats absolutely fine by me, but posts like "Its not Sci-Fi" seem a little irrelevant when you think about what is going on.

Just as a final note, once this tournement is over and done with (still about 2 weeks) I will probably be setting up two tournements "Best Sci-Fi" and "Best Fantasy" which would eliminate the whole "its not sci-fi" bias, there will be new rules though, which I will introduce in those tournements when the time comes.

Well the thread author decided to put SciFi and Fantasy together. Those of us who would rather get into Trek than Vampires and Magic have the right to vote.

Whoever said that seasons two and three of B5 were slow and boring has not seen them or was reading a book. B5 is easily in the top 3 of this list: No kids, No perfectly awful cute aliens or robots, literate writing, some of the best plot development of any series anywhere. The major conflicts are all evident in the first two seasons: Psi Corps, Earthgov, Shadows, Drakh and are rolled out sequentially and overlapping. The enemys are within and without and they are fearsome.

Best Alien Ship of all time: Shadows
Scariest Alien of all time: Shadows
Best acting by alien antagonists: Gkar and Londo

The relatively weak special effects and the overly literate philosophizing (which I love) create a disconnect with some fans. But sorry, B5 smokes a lot of shows still on the list. Personally, I think a lot of Ds9 advocates are just embarassed that B5 is a much better show, so they just try to ignore it. I just watched season 5 of DS-9 and there are at least 8 episodes that induce a complete gag reflex:

Odo in love (twice). Watching him kiss something with that mask on.. gag....
Ferengis in love (at least three times)
Cute little Ferengi on the bridge of the Defiant
The evil and soon to be at war Dominion leader giving a teenager a rare baseball card (ugh). Man, that guy is scary......

B5 is number two, behind Stargate Sg-1

Thanks PTAH! for this tourney, like you .. I LOVE these tourneys coz we can have our differencies and discuss about it and NOT turning it into ugly sulking-stomping-full of hatred posts by posts, instead we deviously insert our ranting under our vote :P

You will make another tourney ? YEY! :D for sure I'll be more prepare this time around and provide more options.

Round 13

Lost *1st season was great, 2nd started off slow & I kind of lost interest so I'm waiting for the S2 DVDs to catch up*
Doctor Who: TNS
Stargate Atlantis *1st season was great, 2nd not so much....*

Is that so? I may then be in the minority, but I felt that the Jasmine arc was the most interesting in Angel history, because of the ethical implications involved. I think this is best shown in Peace Out when Jasmine and Angel argue about free will and pain vs. ultimate happiness due to sacrifice. I understand most people's irritation at Cordelia's direction in season 4 though, but I think in retrospect when looking at her scenes with Connor for instance knowing that Jasmine is manipulating him the whole time, they are far more enjoyable.

Sorry to rant :o

As for people voting fantasy over sci-fi, well I don't really see any problem with that if you prefer one over the other :) Personally I'm much mroe attracted to the fantasy genre, and only a few sci-fi shows appeal to me, but I think each show has a right to be here, as even Lost has quite a bit of the paranormal, even if it is at heart focused on individual characters.

Yes. Now that I think of it, how about some older shows in their own tourney for us senior folk:

The Twilight Zone (probably in the top 10 all time, sci fi/fantasy shows)
The Outer Limits
Flash Gordon
The Original Buck Rogers
Way Out
Space Ranger

Can I make a suggestion? Perhaps you could do a Best Sci-Fi tourney by decade. Sure it means more work and more tourneys (is that a bad thing?), but it might be more fair to some shows to judge them against other shows of their time. Maybe start with the 60's and then do separate tournes for that and for each decade to the present. I know of a website that has information on all of the sci-fi TV series that were on TV (well, American TV and some British TV) since the 1940's. I'm not sure there has been enough fantasy series to do a by decade tourney, but it will be nice to have separate tourneys for sci-fi and for fantasy. And maybe Alien Nation will get its chance :D

Whatever you decide, I am SO there!

Joss Whedon was always so great at writing deep layers into his shows. I love his three shows (Firefly, Buffy, and Angle) more for the emotional and ethical/philosophical storytelling than for the sci-fi or fantasy aspect of them. He just happened to use a space setting or vampires and demons as part of his storytelling. I think the thing that put me off on the Jasmine arc was: 1) yeah what they did with Cordelia and 2) (maybe why I really didn’t like it when she appeared) was the actress that played Jasmine. I just didn’t like her or how she played that part. (And yes I know she was in Firefly. :D But she wasn’t my fav in the show either but then again I didn’t mind her or her acting in that show. Weird I know, but I never claimed to be normal. :D) Guess I should have forced myself to watch those 4 episodes at the end of S4 again but now they have moved on to the last season where Angle and crew are head of Wolfram and Hart, and that season I really didn’t watch as faithfully, either.

wbb, as a kid I used to watch Land of the Giants (of course they were in repeats on some channel in the mid/late 80s) but I can at least say I have watched that one. :D

I'll admit something about this tournament. Expressed as a percentage, I'll bet that at least 40% of us liking a show has to do with buying into the characters and once you buy in you tend to overlook or ignore the other problems or shortcomings of a show. For example, I sat through one of the B5 movies and probably two episodes and was NOT impressed. I thought things like, "what cheezy effects?" and "Who's the wierdo with the bocage haircut? " (Lando). But once I sat down and really watched the show, season after season, I embraced the characters and began to really appreciate the show.

I really doubt that most of us have given a lot of time to the shows we're voting off, so it's sort of momentum combined with lack of attention.

So anyhoo, count them votes!

Yep, quoting myself.

I read thru the last few pages of posts and was entertained by the discussion. So just to make it clear, I also don't think that Lost is "Fantasy-y" enough to be here either. IMHO, Buffy and Angel are examples of Fantasy shows and for my Lost (as far as SciFi/Fantasy goes) seems very watered down for the masses of non SciFi/Fantasy fans. It's more about the characters and their relationships than it is about why Locke can walk again and eerie black smoke. And having said all that, I’ve got the last three episodes of Lost unwatched on my Tivo as my interest has been waning a bit recently.

Anyway, I really enjoy reading everyone's opinions and I think that the idea of having a decade specific tourney sounds great.

If you don’t like the characters, what’s the point of watching the show? It’s all about the characters for me. Especially the shows with complex characterization and character relationships - B5, Farscape, BtVS, Firefly, Angel (though I think Joss’s best work was with Buffy), BSG-TNS. That’s probably why of the ones left those would have to be my favorites. Yes, I think ST-TNG and especially DS9 are really great shows (DS9 for its darker edge), but I think I watched them more for the stories than the characters. Same goes for the Stargates. They are more storybased, imo, or at least that is why I watch them. The characters have depth, but they aren’t really that complex, imo. At least not as complex as those I named first. The X-Files falls somewhere in between. I was invested in the characters just as much as the stories.

After the 3 I'm currently voting for are gone (Lost, Dr. Who-TNS, SGA), the rest are shows that I have heavily invested my time in. I put a lot of time into season 1 of SGA and even season 1 of Lost, but I can't really say the same about S2 for either of those shows (plus the same goes for S9 of SG-1 but I've put in my time for the first 8 seasons....)

Agreed. If you don’t like the characters, what’s the point of watching the show? It’s all about the characters for me.

Agreed as well. Oddly enough thats why I didn't enjoy B5 or DS9 not because the character development wasn't good but I simply did not liked the characters for their own sakes. I got B5 on DVD for the express purpose of finding out why people like it so much, the movie was ok but I couldn't work my way through the first episode without getting annoyed. DS9 had a whole lot of Sisko and he was the one guy who bugged me, while Odo bored me.

Couldn't agree more. I watched the entire DS9 without feeling invested in the characters but the stories were just fine. I have to admit to not even liking Teal'c much and still loving SG.

Of the original set
I haven't seen Red Dwarf, Buck Rogers, Dead Like Me, and the Original Dr. Who. I didn't vote them off because I knew if I hadn't seen them, then they weren't likely that popular or easily/recently available and those that had seen them would get rid of them quickly.

Angel is GONE :(

Okay, Im gonna start doing this, talking about the departed show.
Angel, for me, was one of the best fantasy shows ever. The characters were well thought out and each and every one of them was realistic in their personality. There wasnt one regular that I disliked even in the slightest (well okay Wes in S1 but after that he picked up a lot) and the villains were brilliant, most of them connecting with Angel and the Fang Gang on some level. Joss of course wont let people keep our favourite characters, killing them off instead (Doyle, Fred, Cordy, and even Wes in the last episode). Crossover characters were done perfectly, they changed slightly from their Buffy personas, becuase we were seeing them from Angel's perspective, so Buffy became a B***h, Spike lost the love sick, sadist, warrior aspects and became sarcastic and a show off, the sides of his character that shone in Buffy slid to the background, and those in the background in Buffy came to the front. Faith, was done more justice on this show as well, she was far more believable and human in it, personally I would have liked to have her on the regulars.
The story most people seemed to dislike was the Jasmine one, and to be honest I felt it was the weakest of all, but not because of the story itself, but for the execution, for once Joss had failed to live up to the potential of his storyline (and it really did have huge potential IMO).

I agree with PTAH!, Angel is the best (even better than BTVS, IMO), Joss really showed that life is hard for Angel and those around him are also lived a hard life because and beside of him. Joss made the story interlaced with BTVS, but the continuity were VERY good, it's amazing. I think Joss is the best in TV when it comes to continuity and complicated story-lines.
You could like one charater and then find it so easy to hate him/her later-on. I like Cordy after Doyle's death, but don't like her after season 4. OTH, I don't like Connor in season 4 but really like him in Origin/Not Fade Away, the scene when he told Angel that he 'learn it from my father' is the best

Sorry about Angel Ptah. :(

I've been really disappointed with this season of Atlantis. :( While I don't subscribe to the use of the term 'Kirking', I was rolling my eyes at the babe-of-the-weak ;) episodes.

Are we adding spoiler tags so as not to distract from the tourney?
What's going on here? I come back 24 hours after the forum outage, and a tourney's broken out in the middle of a sci-fi/fantasy discussion thread! ;)

Just had a read through all the posts, and everyone's made valid points and kept the discussion civil. I'm impressed! My only concern was that some voters might've been booting off shows just to keep the Stargates in. It doesn't bother me that some people are voting off shows they haven't seen. I do realise that we're all indivduals with individual tastes, and that some shows just don't connect with us. I could argue the finer points of Babylon 5 with Ptah until I'm blue in the face and it still wouldn't convert him into liking the series. :P

I guess we all have to take it on the chin when a show that we might think is superior, gets voted out early. I know this happened to Dr Who: TOS, which was one of Ptah's favourites. I won't like it if a show like Babylon 5 is voted out too early, but I'll accept that some voters haven't seen it or just couldn't make a connection with it.

I used to give my father a scalp massage so that I could stay up until 8:30 to watch the Twilight Zone.

I've watched most of those shows, but only on reruns during the late 1970s, early 1980s. Another of Gerry Anderson's series I loved was Joe 90. I've seen some of the original Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, but I was more into the new versions.

Yup
Doctor Who: TOS for me was one of the top ones on the list, it was one of the 5 shows I was/am backing to reach the top few shows (Angel was another, the remaining shows are Firefly, Doctor Who: TNS and DS9) and it went, as has Angel, but a little moping did the job, and Trek:TOS going out softened the blow :p Babylon 5, believe me there is nothing you can do to convert me, I tried to watch it, but it just didnt click for me, meh what can you do. I can appreciate that it was well made and well acted etc, but it just didnt click for me. I think the majority of the shows now left in are right to be here, there are a couple of ones that make me wonder whats going on (Atlantis, Farscape (which I thought would go in the first few rounds))
By the way guys, I should be doing a vote count right now, but it seems a little pointless seeing as this round only started a few hours ago, so this one will run for another 24 hours, and that will get us back on track.

Angel:(:(

I still think Buffy was Joss's best work. The characters were VERY human in their emotions, their pain, their struggles, their conflicts, their doubts, their fears, their joys, etc. etc. The show had major depth to its characters and its stories. (Angel did as well [but to a lesser degree, imo], but I think the cast of Buffy was more top notch in their performance.) These were characters that you could relate to even if they were living on the hell mouth, but then wasn’t high school a type of living hell for many? ;):D I never took the show seriously when it originally aired. I just thought it was another one of those teenie-bopper shows. Then I saw the last episode of Season 5, "The Gift". That wasn't teenie-bopper in the least. So I watched the last 2 seasons when the show moved to the UPN channel. Some where in there FX started showing Buffy from the beginning so I started watching and was hooked. I’m guessing I’ve seen most of the episodes probably at least half a dozen times or more and most of them never get old.

If I remember right though I was a fan of Angel first. I watched Angel from the beginning and didn’t get into Buffy until two years later.

As far as characters I didn’t like....Dawn is the first one that comes to mind. I loved the storyline that involved her in S5, but her not so much. Her constant whining and pouting got on my nerves but then don’t we all know teens/adults like that. ;) I never had a problem with Wes and in the final years of Angel, I think he was my favorite. His character was nothing like what he started out as in Buffy. I was so sad/mad at his fate in the final and initially rather angry at how Angel ended with no resolution. It just ended and you didn’t know the fate of the remaining characters but after I gave it some though, it was a rather fitting ending to the series.

B5. S1 is an ok place to start if you cant get ahold of the pilot it leads you in nicely but it by far not the best season.

For B5 it is best to start from the beginning...watch the pilot and then the series. Neither the pilot nor S1 are the best the show has to offer, but it is really an entire story so it is best to start from the beginning and go forward. If you start in S2 or S3 you could be quite lost, plus you miss out on all those...."oh, wait that refers back to ep..." moments.

Funny thing is that's exactly how I feel about Farscape. :) It's definitely a show you need to invest in to get the most out of. I didn't like it when I 1st saw it when it came on after Stargate despite several friends trying to get me involved. But when ScifFi channel did that 2 week long marathon, a year and a half ago, I got hooked. Maybe it was seeing it all at once or maybe it was starting from the beginning but now I'm a big booster.

I probably would've placed Farscape tops on my list but after reading all the posts, I've been thinking that might be more because it's the most recent in my mind and also because aside from a few poor eps it didn't go downhill before it went off the air, quite the opposite it ended on a wonderful note. Whereas XFiles and Stargate and other shows left a bitter taste as their last impression.
