You forgot England/U.K. (Scotland too, which can be counted as part of the U.K. or not--Beckett uses the Scottish flag).

If you do a quick search on this subject on this forum you'll find at least two other threads that have this topic as their subject of conversation.

I have been taking a closer look at the countires involved. It may be coincindence but all the european countries involved in the stargate or atlantis program are members of NATO, except for France. It makes sense, beacause NATO is a miliatry alliance and its members have done a lot of war-gaminmg together. France has to be included because they do have a limited global military-projection capability. Russia found out the stargate early on.

It is impossible not to include China and not having China found out. Japan is needed because it has high-technological resources and population, a powerful force in high-tech warfare. That covers the Asian continent.
Australia is needed to cover south-east asia and south pacifc, cause Japan can only focus in north-east asia and China still does not have the ability to project its forces beyond the South China Sea.

The is a south african captain on Atlantis. Right noe, South Africa is the most stable nation on the African continent. I do not know about South America
