The Hologram in 'Rising' said that there were 1000 worlds that bore life. Not all will have had gates, while other lifeless planets will have gates or spacegates. So 1000 is probably a good estimate. 1000 worlds had civilizations on them, not all with gates, whereas there will be worlds that don't contain life but do have gates. It will never be known exactly but it should be expected to be around the 100 mark, give or take a few.
